Dos Corazones is our most elegant rental. The custom construction and unique decor are simply exquisite. Photos do not do justice to this amazing home.
Beautifully custom-built adobe home designed in an elegant and classic southwestern style and nestled at the base of the Corazones Mountains. Relax and escape from daily stresses while enjoying the grandest splendor and comfort available in the Big Bend.
Dos Corazones was designed in the tradition of a grand Chihuahuan hacienda. High ceilings, rich wood work, stucco adobe walls, artful stone masonry, and elegant tile floors make every room exquisite and inviting. Many architectural items, including doors, hardware, and fixtures, were salvaged from historic buildings in Mexico, South Africa and Morocco and artfully incorporated into this wonderfully designed home. The interior décor proudly features an extensive collection of folk art, baskets, and textiles that the owners collected from their world travels.
This home is incredibly spacious. There is plenty of room for your entire group to spend time together or for each to claim their own private space. The great room features a comfortable leather sofa and chairs and is the perfect place to relax and tell stories while enjoying expansive mountain views. The den offers a touch of seclusion and is a great place to relax with a good book. The spacious dining room is ideal for sharing meals or playing games. Speaking of meals, the expansive kitchen is a great place to prepare a gourmet meal or a simple snack.
There are several fireplaces in the house. However, no fires are allowed. The chimneys have all been permanently capped. There are candle stands and candles for your use in each fireplace.
There are two large bedrooms. Each one has its own luxurious bathroom and private patio. The master suite has a king bed, a private bathroom with a large shower, and private patio with views of Sombrero Peak and the Rosillos Mountains. The second bedroom has a queen bed and a full bed, a private bathroom with a large shower. All mattresses are high quality memory foam purchased Sept 2017.
Of course, you didn’t drive all this way to stay inside. That’s why Dos Corazones has six different flagstone patios for your enjoyment. The central courtyard features a peaceful water fountain and lots of greenery. The front porch features a built-in grill and a small outdoor dining area. The two back porches offer expansive views and plenty of space to stretch out. The private porches attached to each bathroom provide a more intimate setting with privacy walls and lots of greenery.
The owner, Gillian Hennessy, lives in the nearby guest house. Feel free to introduce yourself and ask her questions about the home or area. Otherwise, she may wave and say hello, but will respects your privacy.
Want to see the stars at night? Well they are truly big and bright down here in the Big Bend Area. Our remoteness means there is virtually no light pollution to obscure the night sky. The Big Bend Region is recognized and celebrated for having the darkest night skies and best star gazing in the continental United States. Don’t forget to watch for the International Space Station and other orbiting satellites. They can often be spotted in the first hour or two after dusk or before dawn.
Venture into Big Bend National Park or Big Bend Ranch State Park. Visit the Terlingua Ghost Town. Check out the Christmas Mountains. Take a horseback ride or go on a river trip. Cool off in the Terlingua Ranch pool. Check out the local cuisine at the Terlingua Ranch Bad Rabbit Café, in Terlingua/Study Butte, the Terlingua Ghost town, or Lajitas. You won’t be disappointed. There is often live music at the famous La Kiva Bar and Grill, the Starlight Theatre, High Sierra Bar and Grill, or the Terlingua Ranch Bad Rabbit Cafe. There are so many things to see and do you won’t be able to see or do it all.
Stay as busy as you like or just relax and unwind. When you leave Dos Corazones you can be as rested and refreshed, or as exhausted and inspired, as you like. Don’t worry about fitting everything into one trip. We’ll be glad to welcome you back again and again.
TERLINGUA RANCH: Located between Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park and including much of the town of Terlingua, Terlingua Ranch is a private subdivision of over 190,000 acres, divided into 9,500 tracts owned by about 5,000 individuals and crisscrossed by 1,100 miles of dirt and rock roads. Tracts range from five acres to several hundred acres. It is some of the most rugged and scenic land in Texas.
Back in the 1960’s, the Ghost Town and much of what later became “Terlingua Ranch” was owned by racing legend and car designer extraordinaire, Carol Shelby and some of his friends. The decided to promote the area by holding a chili cook-off in the then abandoned Ghost Town. That little stunt of a cook-off grew into CASI (Chili Appreciation Society International) which now hosts nearly 500 chili cook-offs around the nation and internationally, all leading up the championship cook-off every year in Terlingua. Shelby and friends later subdivided the Ranch and started selling it off to hunters and rugged naturalists. Over the decades, the area was reborn and an eclectic community of nature lovers, artists, musicians, adventurers, and folks just wanting to escape from “civilization” has grown and started to resettle this rough country.
People have come and gone. New buildings have risen while others have fallen, Dreams have been realized and others crushed. Through it all, the land remains. The harsh desert and vast openness encourages positive development and slowly swallows up and recovers from past abuses. The old cinnabar mine sites and ranching outposts persist as relics and ghost towns, some redeveloped, some carefully preserved, and others dissolving back into the desert. Abandoned dreams eventually become points of interests for those of us that stumble upon them decades later. Terlingua Ranch is a bizarre mix of old and new, good and bad, growth and decline, all completely unregulated. Modern homes with high values and stunning designs stand beside dilapidated do-it-yourself mistakes and abandoned ruins of the 1800’s and early 1900’s.
The landscape is even more varied than the people and the structures. Rugged mountains, deep canyons, wild arroyos, dry and wet creeks, peaceful valleys, breathtaking badlands, moonscape like mud flats, the remains of ancient volcanoes, and fossilized ancient seabeds. All of it nurturing a vast array of plant life and wildlife. Around every corner and over every hill lies new and unexpected surprises.
The Ranch is now home to a few hundred hardy souls. It is also dotted with a diverse array of vacation rental lodging options and campsites. Like the diverse land, they range in quality, style, value, and price. A few are amazing dream destinations. Some are good places to sleep. Others are the stuff of nightmares. (We don’t manage any in the nightmare category.)
Big Bend Vacation Rentals started out in 2007 and initially managed three of the first four vacation rentals in the Terlingua and Terlingua Ranch area. We now manage dozens out of a couple of hundred options. We represent dozens of property owners and have hosted tens of thousands of guests. You can trust us as managers, and you can rely on the properties that we manage. We have become very selective about the properties and the property owners that we add to our portfolio. Wow! What a fantastic property in a stunning location. Everything was perfect. Loved our stay.
Just an amazing house that makes you feel like you own the world. Incredible sunrises from the back patio. A sky full of stars. Silence. Breathtaking views on all sides, and a house on the inside that feels like living in the lap of luxury. I doubt there is a house anywhere near Big Bend that could match this one, and we would stay here again if we ever came back. It was just a great, great way to start and end our days in the park..
Off the beaten path with wonderful views!
This house is absolutely beautiful and it is not too far from Terlingua (Big Bend), but just far enough to get away from it all. We rented this house after a 3-day Rio Grande rafting trip through Big Bend so it was a great way to wrap up the long drive from Dallas. The whole trip was very relaxing. There is not a lot to do out in this area, but that is the point of it. You are surrounded in nature and isolation and a beautiful State and National park. The house is even better looking than the photos and it is larger than what it looks like. Everything we needed was provided. There was a good supply of charcoal, seasonings, and kitchen utensils for cooking all of our meals there. They could use some better knives, but it was no big deal. The house is plenty big enough for two couples or a large family. We even road our mountain bikes around on the dirt roads and went hiking on the hill out back. The library was a great surprise too for the cold and windy last day at the house.
Our stay was perfect! The location, house and property was stunning. Star gazing was absolutely fanominal. The home was impeccably clean and well maintained.
This place is amazing! Our family just returned from 3 nights at this house and the property was beautiful. From the architecture of the home to the decorations and folk art from many countries, it was all perfect. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well-stocked and the home was quite spacious! The owner was lovely and Janet was very helpful in providing information prior to arrival. The check-in process was great even though we arrived after midnight. Would definitely return if we go to Big Bend again.
Wonderful property. We were looking for a peaceful place to get away from everything and this was the perfect choice. The house is beautiful with multiple courtyards and seating areas. Nights are dark and the skies are beautiful!!! The stars are so bright!! The kitchen is well stocked. We cooked all our meals at the house and had everything we needed. The only thing we brought with us was a rice cooker. Note that you need to conserve water while at this house as they rely on a rain catchment system. We absolutely loved our stay and are hoping to get back down there in the future! If you like tranquility and want to get away from the craziness of city life, you won’t be disappointed.
We weren’t able to travel to Texas because of the coronavirus but sadly missed our annual stay. Couldn’t be a greater place!
This property was 10 miles off the road on the way to Big Bend National Park. It is beautifully decorated, well stocked and as peaceful as you can imagine. The sunrises, sunsets and star gazing opportunities took our breath away. Janet was super helpful pre-arrival and we’d highly recommend this property to anyone.
Dos Corazones is a beautiful house in a beautiful location! We loved watching the changing light on the mountains and one evening saw the Rosillas mountains glow orange - quite a sight! We had the good luck to meet the owner, who was pleased to explain the many treasure in her lovely home. It was a good awareness-increasing experience to be conscious of water usage and I hope that carries over when we return home. We spent our days in Big Bend National Park, about a 35 minute drive to the Study Butte/Terlingua entrance and were happy to have such a lovely place to return to each evening, since closer lodging seems to be mostly RVs! We enjoyed LaKiva and Starlight restaurants in Terlingua, but restaurant choices are very limited so our well equipped kitchen was useful. And the Cottonwood store in Terlingua has an amazing selection of some of just about anything!
Beautiful and interesting home in the middle of one of the most interesting ecosystems in the southern United States. Family friendly with gorgeous views.
We had a wonderful stay and highly recommend this property.
no better place to stay
We were very impressed with the home. If you are looking for remote luxury, this is the place. The only complaint about the House was the lack of window coverings- master bath included.
We liked it very much, will return. unusual design and furnishings, in a good way. Much like a visit to someones home. The owner is a very nice person.
Spectacular inside and out. Serene and comfortable. Loved the folk art from the U.S. southwest and Africa. It matched our tastes perfectly. Bed and bath were just what we needed and enjoyed. Kitchen extraordinarily equipped. Be aware there is no microwave when purchasing frozen food in Alpine for your stay. Also, no washer and dryer so pack suitcases accordingly. A wonderful place to stay!!!
Visited Big Bend NP, the house is about an hour drive from the Panther Junction visitor center, which is in the middle of the park. Definitely not the closest place to stay for the park but I doubt we could have found a better place. Not sure why the listing says Alpine because that town is more than an hour away. You are closer to Terlingua, which is about a 30 minute drive. The property information map shows you where it is, so be sure to go by that for your plans. Just know that you'll have to do a bit of driving to get anywhere. I was fine with the location. Sat on the back porch watching the sunset one night. Would have done that the other nights but we were in the park watching sunsets. The setting is amazing. Beds were comfortable, you need to watch the water usage, there are multiple note cards around the bathrooms and sinks to remind you. There were four of us on our trip. House was plenty big, every room was clean, bedrooms on opposite sides of the house. There is wireless available but it wasn't as reliable or fast as it is in our house in DFW. If that bothers you, you need to understand - you're coming out here to get away from that rat race. Unplug, forget the nonsense you left. Enjoy where you are. I always ask myself on trips like this: would you stay here again? Yes. In a heartbeat. It was one of our best vacations in years.
Fairly remote, amazing star gazing, well stocked kitchen, nicely decorated, super comfy beds. Great place!
WOW! Dos Corazones is an absolutely incredible place! This property is phenomenal! The design and thoughtful detail in this house combined with the furnishings and decor is remarkable! It’s remotely located between Alpine & Terlingua and is about 20 miles outside of Big Bend National Park. It’s the perfect place to stay to visit Big Bend & offers delightful surroundings with fabulous sunrise & sunsets views and glimpses of jackrabbits & roadrunners. Dos Corazones was beyond our expectations! Highly recommend! —— Mike & Carol Mc, Rockwall, TX
This property is exactly as pictured if not better. Beautiful with lots of amazing detail and 360 views.
The house is beautiful and remote. Everything about the house is lovely and interesting. The bedrooms and bathrooms were spacious and the design elements are beautiful. There is no TV or microwave and you are limited in the amount of water you can use (makes sense given the location). We thought that it was located in Alpine proper, rather than Terlingua, and so we had to adjust our trip (spent days at Big Bend rather than Fort Davis and Balmorhea). The property managers were understanding about the mix up and helped us rearrange our trip. They were available and accommodating. We hope to stay here again in the future.
We were just talking about this place. We will definitely be back! Loved the kitchen, it’s a real cooks place, we never used the outdoor grill, although we plan on only eating at the house since we have confirmed there is literally no place that offers decent food.. like no where! So having this house as home base is amazing and very relaxing, just beautiful. The A/C broke upon our arrival, with a good amount of water all over the den floor, so some real work went into cleaning up the mess and continual checking to make sure no more damage was done while the issue waiting to be fixed. As a home owner I get it.. it would have been nice to have been compensated in some way for the effort and time spent cleaning, calling, waiting and not having AC for the duration. Either way, we will recommend you all and look forward to returning.
Very much enjoyed our stay at Dos Corazones. House very much has a sense of place. Wish we could have stayed longer to really let the location sink in. Owner was readily available and friendly when minor issues needed addressing. It's a long drive from the house to the park, but a beautiful one. And let's be honest, it's a long drive anywhere in Big Bend. Not sure when our lives will allow us to make it down here from Cincinnati, but if we do, we would love to stay here again.
Beautiful home, well kept and close enough to Big Bend. Some friends and I stayed a few nights while hiking Big Bend. Drive is about 45 minutes to the park. Stars were incredible and the house is stunning. Have already recommended to multiple friends. One of our guests plans to return for his wedding anniversary. Thank you Janet for allowing us to stay.
Four of us (two couples) arrived for the first time in Big Bend not knowing what to expect. We stayed at Dos Corazones on a recommendation from a friend who had stayed here last October. After walking in through the kitchen area, our mouths dropped open. This home is so inviting, comfortable and luxurious in so many ways. The views from every window facing the mountain scenery are just BEAUTIFUL. The incredible kitchen is stocked full of everything you may need to cook a meal and the grill outside is WONDERFUL too. The collection of MARVELOUS South African artifacts, antiquated doors and Moroccan wood are breathtaking. There is an amazing room with hundreds of books to read. The bath towels are thick and plush and the bedding is perfect. Big Bend is absolutely breathtaking. The many hikes we took were full of history and stunning views. I hope someday to come back to Dos Corazones. I promise you will love this home and the time you stay here as much as we did. It's definitely a 5 star.
Beautifully equipped, this wonderful casa is situated at the base of a majestic mountain giving a panoramic view of the area just north of Big Bend National Park. God’s handiwork was evident everywhere from the magnificent sunrises to the serene sunsets. Very clean, the spaciousness allowed two couples to have their own space as well as share the communal areas. The kitchen area was large and well stocked. A large stove and refrigerator served our needs very nicely. We’ve already scheduled a return visit.
What an amazing home! Our family of 5 stayed here during a trip to Texas. The home was well equipped with everything we needed. We were concerned about keeping our water usage down, but it was not a problem at all. The home is in a beautiful location and was very quiet. We enjoyed the night sky, hearing the coyotes, and spending time as a family here. Amazing views of the surrounding landscape and a welcoming feel to the home make this property one of a kind. I would highly recommend staying here!
This is a very nice spot to explore from. The home is beautiful. We had very windy cool weather so couldn’t enjoy the outside space but inside was great.
We stayed at Dos Corazones the week of Spring Break with our 3 daughters. It was beautiful! We enjoyed going to Big Bend, eating in Terlingua, and taking a little day trip to explore the towns of Alpine and Marfa. This home was so nice to come home to at the end of the day. The kitchen was fabulous, the beds were comfortable, and the porch was awesome to sit out at night and in the mornings. The house had everything we needed.
This was a second time staying at this place; couldn't ask for a better place to stay whilst visiting big bend.
Museum quality decor captivated us throughout our 5 night stay at Dos Corazones. Home was spacious and well appointed, beds comfortable and kitchen was this chefs dream. Twas a pleasure to return to each evening after exploring Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park. Hiked around the foothills of the Corazones Peaks right out the back door of the property. Pictures of the property or landscape don't do it justice. I definately would return. Meeting the owner was a huge bonus!
We had an amazing time and everything we could have needed was there at the property! It would be a wonderful place to enjoy with family or another couple as there is plenty of space! Peace and quiet and gorgeous views for miles!!My only wish is we could live there :-)
Beautiful sunsets and sunrises, stunning night sky views. High ceilings, large rooms, walk in showers and well laid out and well stocked kitchen. Needs much more internal lighting. There were some general maintenance issues, electrical power in master bath didn't work, dining table fixture needed cleaning and relamping, rear gas burner igniter didn't function properly. Great room windows needed cleaning. These minor attention to detail issues keep this property at 4 stars.
We stayed here for 10 days, cycling and hiking in BBNP and really got to know the property and the surrounding area well. There isn't too much I can add that has not already been said in the previous reviews. The house is large, beautiful, spotlessly clean, and very well-appointed and the views from inside and outside the house are amazing. We cooked breakfast and dinner here every night and the kitchen has just about everything you could want or need including large, high-quality pots, pans, a dual-fuel stove, a charcoal grill (just outside) and a huge array of spices, many I have never heard of. Using the kitchen was a pleasure. The art around the house is fascinating, everywhere and much of it African. I found new pieces to admire nearly every day. The house backs up to the Corazones mountains and there isn't a single structure outside of the property that interrupts your view of these beautiful mountains. We ate our breakfast out on the porch every morning with an unobstructed view. Incredible. We are already thinking about the next time we will be back.
Stayed here while visiting/hiking Big Bend National Park. It is about a 30 minute drive getting to the entrance of the park, but this large house worked much better for our family of 6 than a hotel. The house was decorated beatifully and has a lot of character. The kitchen was well furnished. Being from Pennsylvania It was fun staying in a house style appropriate for this area of Texas. We spent some time outside each evening enjoying the dark sky star viewing. Would have liked to spent more time here but the hikes at Big Bend were awesome so we spent full days in the park.
My family and I have fond memories of staying here. The house was absolutely beautiful. Large , comfortable rooms. Peace and quiet. During the day, we enjoyed our hikes in the park and at night we had plenty of night sky to look at the stars. Highly recommend.
What an amazing and beautiful home. When we arrived, we found that it was even better than the pictures that are posted. You walk in the door and you immediately feel at peace. The kitchen has everything that we needed and then some. The entire house is decorated beautifully. As you step out onto the back porch you are met with the most amazing view. There are no words to describe the peacefulness and beauty of the land behind you. We were able to explore the property and it definitely didn't disappoint. We wouldn't change a thing about this amazing property. Whether you want to unwind and have a relaxing evening or explore the outdoors, this property is definitely the one. Thank you so much for allowing us to enjoy your home. It is truly a treasure!!
We had such an amazing time in this beautiful home! The views, the details, the quiet, the sun rises and sunsets could not have been more perfect! Highly recommend!
Excellent property and as advertised with no surprises. We really enjoyed staying here and would definitely do so again. If you are looking to be away from the hustle and bustle, this is it. Best Attributes: very spacious; (2) very comfortable bedrooms; (2) large bathrooms; well equipped kitchen; well decorated, rear patio facing a small mountain makes for a great view; star gazing extraordinaire; and QUIET, QUIET, QUIET Attributes that might affect you: definitely remote; the water restriction was a non-factor for us (4-persons), but did influence our decision making; there is no TV, but we were not there to watch it anyway and did not miss it. Recommendations to the ownership to make an awesome property that much better: - Since nights can be cold and open fires are prohibited consider adding and outdoor heater for late night star gazing - Equalize the water pressure between spare bedroom and master bedroom (master really dominates) - Add blinds to all windows. They are on about half. This will give customers the option to leave open or close. I know the property is remote, but it takes some getting used to being in your birthday suit or sitting on the toilet with a completely open window, especially for us city folk. - Outdoor grill is functional, but may need to be updated soon In all, a beautiful home and a great value.
The beauty of the desert is breathtaking! Dos Corazones tastefully brings comfort to the harsh but beautiful, remote surroundings.
Superb property with great WOW factor. Very enjoyable.
This was one of the most beautiful rentals we’ve ever stayed in. It’s so stylish, comfortable, and remote. Exactly what we were looking for during our West Texas vacation!
Beautiful house, setting is spectacular and the location is great for both the National and State Parks. The Milky Way at night is unbelievable! We will definitely return to this magical place!
Dos Corazones is a wonderful property - large, inviting, warm, views everywhere. We loved having the mountain in the back yard and the dark skies to let us enjoy the stars. The home is close enough to the park to make it easily accessible - not to mention the fact that the drive to the park is very scenic. Yet, when you return, you are in your own quiet world. The kitchen is outfitted well enough to make a serious cook happy. The charcoal grill is a great addition as well. My hubby and I agree that this is among the very best vacation rentals we have ever found and we have stayed in many over the years. The photos do not do the home or the views justice so be prepared to be happily surprised upon driving up and going in. We are already looking forward to a return trip.
We stayed at Dos Corazones for four days and three nights over Labor Day weekend. The home was gorgeous, spacious, and comfortable with a view that can't be beat.
We love the Big Bend and Terlingua area. This house was really great with tons of room to spread out and plenty of peace and quite. Everything was clean and well taken care of. This is the second time renting from the Eby's (different house last time) and both times were very quick and easy transactions. Thanks again and we will be booking another trip to the area soon.
The house is absolutely beautiful and filled with charm. The decor was fantastic! It contained all of the amenities our family of children and adults needed to come back to after our Big Bend adventure. The house is very modern, clean and has room for everyone to relax without being on top of each other. We cooked or grilled every meal and found that the kitchen and outdoor grill served all of our needs. We hope to go back soon!
We stayed 4 full days in the desert. What a fantastic experience! We visited Big Bend, took some hikes, visited the hot springs, has supper in Terlingua. Drove to Lajitas. The weather is astonishingly different. In the mountain basin 82 and in the desert as high as 109! We enjoyed use of the ranch pool on those hot hike days. The owner of this house takes great pride in creating a true work of art. Our children understood the significance of respecting and reading information throughout the house. A cherished memory!
Comfortable and a good location
Will come back every chance We get
The home is expansive, with two private bedroom/bath areas at opposite ends of the house. The kitchen met all of our cooking and eating needs. Well-equipped with plenty of storage space. The large living room and slightly smaller we’ll-stocked library were perfect for relaxing, as were the multiple patios. We particularly loved the 40 acres of private desert leading up the foothills to the base of the Dos Corazones mountains. About a 30 minute drive to Terlingua, Big Bend Natl Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park. A few favorite hikes - Santa Elena Canyon Trail, Closed Canton Trail (if you’re a bit adventurous and don’t mind some steep narrow boulder-filled drops) and the hike to Dos Corazones. Another astounding experience was a trip up the Rio Grande from Santa Elena between canton walls rising 1500’ on both sides and then back again. We walked the canoes through some shallower areas - cool and refreshing!
Really loved Dos Corazones. Without a doubt the best decorated home we have ever stayed in. Very clean, incredible scenery (a mountain in the backyard), awesome antique decorations, great beds, etc... Highly recommend. Truly added to our Big Bend vacation.
Words cannot describe how great this place is. The house clearly seems like a work of someone who really put their heart into building his place. The views are stunning from anywhere in the house. I wish we could have stayed longer. LOVE IT ! We are already planning our next trip. Thanks for letting us stay in this house.
We visited in late February when the days were clear and warm and nights were clear and cold. The sunrises, sunsets and night skies were amazing. The house is very comfortable and has two master bedrooms and baths, a huge living room and a library full of books. The kitchen is well equipped so bring your groceries and enjoy cooking. We were there to visit Big Bend Park, but when we saw the house we wished we had an extra day just to relax there. We enjoyed meeting the delightful owner.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Dos Corazones while visiting Big Bend National Park. It was about 10 miles from the park, but worth the drive. Janet's directions to the house were perfect. We enjoyed the dark nights with great star viewing and the well-appointed aspects of the home that included everything we needed and wanted and more. The home itself is a treat for the eyes. Throughout our stay we kept noticing more of it's unique features and art pieces. We shopped in Marfa on our way from the airport and found it very easy to cook in the kitchen. The other two nights we drove to dinner in Terlingua and enjoyed the live music and local culture. We'd recommend this VRBO and would gladly stay again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful house. Dos Corazones was a very spacious, beautifully decorated house full of amenities. The kitchen was stocked with everything you might need to cook, the bedrooms and common rooms were all very comfortable and large (certainly bigger than anything we needed), there was a lovely patio with a charcoal grill, and everything was perfectly clean. Beyond the aesthetics and comfort of the house, the property itself was fantastic. The views were beautiful, and we could take walks and enjoy the landscape. Because the property is isolated, it was absolutely quiet (besides the sound of coyotes at night, which we loved), and there was barely any light pollution, so we were able to experience spectacular night skies. Dos Corazones was a wonderful place to return to after a long day of hiking in Big Bend. We highly recommend it.
This beautifully designed home is situated in a gorgeous setting with great vistas and mountain views. The home is about 35 minutes from Terlingua and the paved road into the subdivision is easily navigated. Our family of seven came after Christmas to explore Big Bend. We rented the nearby Big Bend Getaway to have enough sleeping accommodations for our group. It was a very short drive nearby. The positives about the home were how well decorated it was, nice outdoor seating, comfy beds, nice linens and large rooms. I did not give the home five stars due to lack of comfort: poor lighting, difficult kitchen to use without microwave, garbage disposal, and common cooking utensils and dishes, uncomfortable kitchen chairs, many doors and windows you can not open, bedrooms not heated well, unable to use any fireplaces, and concern about being charged for using too much water. I would say this home places beauty over function. The nearby Big Bend Getaway was much more easy to use! The property management was very good and responded quickly to a few issues with water heater and plumbing. Overall, this is one of the most beautiful homes to rent in the area! With a few upgrades this place would be five starts for sure!
staying at dos corazones enabled us to relax, to visit neighboring big bend national park, to sit outside watching the sunsets and look at the stars as well as witness an amazing heat lightning storm. the decor and architecture really speak to the owner's sense of style. there were plenty of lovely crafts and trinkets from travel to look at while the various rooms provided a comfortable environment to decompress from our day to day routine. it was lovely to stay here. i imagine it would be a great place in any season.
I can’t say enough about this house. Absolutely beautiful and the views are amazing. I only wish we had spent more time there. If your thinking of staying here, look no further! This is it.
A very cool, roomy, awesome accommodation. It was stocked FULL of all kinds of amenities - including a FULL kitchen, with lots of spices, pots, pans, dishes, etc. (but no microwave). The beds were very comfortable and the bedrooms were big. Enjoyed candles in the fireplaces and the comfortable den. Stargazing on the patio was perfect and great padded chairs were available. Sunrises and sunsets are gorgeous in the mountains and the little courtyard is pretty, peaceful and perfect for sunrise and coffee. A totally wonderful experience - lots of driving to and from the site to the Parks, but well worth it!
Enjoyed every minute of our stay. Large comfortable space with amazing features accentuated by the art that fills the home. Views of the desert from every room. Can't say enough nice things about this place.
Peaceful, quite, and it has an awesome view of the mountains.
Great view of the mountains from the patio. The bats and jack rabbits entertained us daily. Very beautiful home!
Loved the gourmet kitchen! Felt like we were staying at a high end haciendo. Loved it and will be our first choice next time we travel here.
This enormous home, which sits on the edge of Big Bend National Park, offers plenty of room for a family and some of the most beautiful views of the night sky imaginable. Excepting the guest house, which is a stone’s throw from the house, there are unobstructed views of desert mountains from the back porch of the house. Unfortunately, the beautiful setting was tempered a bit by uncomfortable beds, an air conditioner unit in desperate need of servicing (unable to keep the home cool), and signs throughout the house reminding you everywhere you look to obey various rules. The end result is that we felt more like a tenant and less like a guest.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home. It was a real retreat with a gourmet kitchen, beautifully appointed decor and a homey, comfortable ambiance. It's a much nicer place than we all live, so it was a real treat. Thank you for having us and having everything perfectly prepared for our stay. S Lutz
Really cool place. Isolated, but isn't everything out here? House was very clean. Nice amenities...could use a microwave, though. Views are stunning. Takes about one hour to get to the heart of Big Bend and the drive is not bad. Highly recommend!
The stay was all that is was described as being. The pictures online are nothing compared to the place and it's beautiful surroundings. The ultimate get-a-away spot/locations/place! If anyone is looking for an incredible place to distress, enjoy the scenery, hike or just to stay in and spark up the grill and enjoy the house, Dos Corazones is the place! Thank you! :-) CU
Our stay was wonderful. From the moment we walked in to the home, we knew we had made the right choice. The attention to detail in the home decor was amazing. It took us a bit to get use to the fact that not all windows had blinds. But then we remembered our neighbors were acres away. The home had everything necessary to prepare plenty of meals and the space for everyone. Night skies were incredible and something we had never seen before. We highly recommend this property and look forward to staying here in the future.
My wife and along with our college aged daughters and one of their boyfriends had an amazing stay. When staying at this house you truly feel like you are staying in someone's home rather than just another VRBO rental. The space, decor and location of this house, make it a one of a kind experience. You will not be disappointed!
Two couples enjoyed a first-time visit to Big Bend. This home was in the perfect location to visit the park. We began and ended our days with quiet, peaceful time on the patio watching the rabbits running across the area between the house and the mountain. The house itself was very comfortable, unbelievably roomy with great bedroom privacy with spa baths and gourmet kitchen. We enjoyed the living room and library inside the house as well as the multiple outside patios and lounging areas. The soaring ceilings, adobe walls, and tiled floors were the backdrop for African and Native American weavings, rugs, sculptures, baskets, carvings. I highly recommend the house and appreciate the owner's attention to detail.
Perfect location for visiting the park, star gazing, hang out on the property with family. Note, water is limited to 125 gallons per day, and there is no TV or way to play music through bluetooth, like Sonos. Tiny drawbacks to otherwise perfect stay.
Quite honestly, I'm hesitant to leave a review so this gem remains somewhat undiscovered and the property can continue to be maintained at the level it is at without inconsiderate travelers leaving it in worse shape than they arrived, with that said... As a business traveler that spends 200+ nights a year in mid-level business style hotels, this business/personal trip was simply amazing. The attention to detail, cleanliness, and amenities offered in this property are 1st class all the way. Having stayed at properties all over the world from hotels to specialty rentals like this one I can tell you this easily ranks in my Top 3 of places I've ever stayed. The house is well appointed, meticulously cared for by the management team and offers an opportunity to experience the West Texas landscape and all that is Big Bend National Park in a way few get to experience. I think we all know what we are in for in seeking a location like this... off the grid, remote, peaceful, quiet, really a place to get lost to maybe help us find ourselves again after the continues daily grind and connected lifestyle many of us lead. As other's have mentioned, beautiful place for night photography... as a Photographer many 4AM's were spent taking in the sky and Milky Way using the house as a beautiful foreground element. I would like to personally thank the owners for sharing this gem and the management team for taking such great care of this property. I would implore anyone thinking of staying at this property to consider what it is and to leave it in better shape than you left it so many can enjoy this property for years to come without it become rundown as so many other specialty rentals become. To use the hiking philosophy... pack it in and pack it out, leave no trace. Now go and book this property for your next Texas getaway, you would be foolish not to.
We really enjoyed our stay at Dos Corazones. It was quiet with tons of stars at night. We have already recommended it some of our friends
A beautiful house perfect for family or friend getaways where you can reconnect, star gaze, grill, drink, talk and generally feel connected back to the beautiful world that all too often gets lost in suburbia, smartphones and stressful jobs. A wonderful stay.
Beautiful place. Secluded but very safe and comfortable. Great views of surrounding mountains and impressive night skies.
We were looking for a place to get away from the city, and work on our night photography skills. Dos Corazones was the perfect getaway! The house is truly amazing, and the property is perfect for night photography, being so secluded. We were able to get some beautiful photos of the house with the Milky Way filling the sky in the background. We spent most of our daytime hours hiking in the National Park, but did do some hiking to the mountains in the back yard! The house is beautifully furnished and decorated, and the owners sound system and music collection is great! We have already recommended it to our friends, and do plan to make it back for another vacation! Thanks Janet for being responsive to my emails before our trip!
Dos Corazones is a wonderfully special place to stay while visiting Big Bend. The pictures do not fully convey how beautiful of a house it is. The shower in the master bath is a unique feature with a full glass door to a private outdoor courtyard. The door allows lots of sunlight to brighten the bathroom. Many of the doors in the home are antiques. On top of the natural beauty of the home, the property managers are amazing. On the first night of our stay, we had bees swarm the house. They came out within a few hours, did a fantastic job of removing the bees, and had the house back to normal quickly.
This home is gorgeous, impeccably decorated, comfortable, secluded. Simply the best place to call home for an adventure at Big Bend
This home is beautifully designed to meet any needs - aesthetic, comfort and convenience. The property itself offers great hikes and it's a short drive from Big Bend National Park, Big Bend State Park and the Ghost town of Terlingua. Relaxing and remote, yet full of adventure!
I really cannot say enough good things about Dos Corazones, the owners, Janet & Daryl Eby, and being back in the Big Bend area. It had been quite a few years since my wife and I had been to the Terlingua area and February is one of the best months to visit the Big Bend area. The temperatures are cool, the desert bluebonnets are blooming, and it is the low season before spring break. We looked on VRBO and found Dos Corazones and made our reservations for three nights. First, the owners, Janet and Daryl Eby, are very attentive and gracious. Janet responded promptly to all of our e-mails, the explanations concerning the property were clear and concise, and Janet even mailed back to us a couple of blouses my wife left in an armoire (we really appreciated that kind gesture). Second, the house is gorgeous, well appointed, spacious and relaxing. The rooms have high ceilings and the architecture and furnishings match the area. The kitchen has everything you need so you can stay at the house, relax and enjoy the solitude. The back porch was wonderful for sitting out and enjoying the sunset over the majestic desert mountains that are right behind the house. If you want to cook out, there is a charcoal grill built into the back porch. I liked the shower in the master bathroom (you have to see it to know what I am talking about - there is a limit on daily water use (this is the desert), but we did not find it to be restrictive). Last, the property surrounding the house is gorgeous. It is very quiet and secluded and it was good to see the Milky Way again as well as all the stars in the Big and Little Dippers. You can see wildlife such as jackrabbits and coyotes (it is always cool to hear coyotes when they howl at night). There are mule deer around, but we did not see any. The desert bluebonnets also did not disappoint. God willing, we will back again and we will bring some of our friends who also love the Big Bend area.
This is easily one of the best vacation rentals we have ever stayed in. The house is gorgeous and spacious with beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. The close proximity to the park made it easy to hike all day and return to the comforts of home. The house has an excellent selection of cookware, a rarity among rentals. We will definitely rent this house again in the future.
We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay at Dos Corazones. The house is amazing! We couldn't decide on a favorite room, they were all very spacious and elegantly designed! We enjoyed every peaceful minute we were there. The views out back were terrific and while exploring the property we were entertained by some 'bouncing' deer that scampered by! The stargazing at night were like none we've ever experienced. I highly recommend this adobe home! My wife and I had a great vacation and enjoyed many hikes at Big Bend but on the flight home all we kept saying was 'that house'!!
This was almost like staying at home, except we don't have an adobe house, and your stereo equipment is somewhat more high end (understatement). The description indicated that there were basic spices available for cooking. The spice drawer was very well stocked, and there is a very healthy rosemary tree in the courtyard. 'Enjoyed working in the kitchen. It was very comfortable, clean and quiet. Access is via a very short gravel road off of a paved surface - no need for anything other than a city car. Highly recommended.
We couldn't have been more pleased. We enjoyed the mountainous view from the living room while drinking coffee in the morning, and the barbecue pit on the back patio was a great touch. The home is spacious and well decorated with a nice southwestern touch; a lot of care went into its design.
I can't recommend Dos Corazones enough. My girlfriend and I stayed for a few days in December and wish we could have never left. The house puts you within an hour of Big Bend National Park, and the property the house is on is amazing too (we didn't a chance to explore around the house much, though). If you're looking to enjoy what living in the Big Bend can be like, this is the place to stay.
