Unique A-frame vacation rental perched atop a hill with great views over looking the Beltline, UW Arboretum and the city of madison. Excellent central location with easy access to all parts of madison and surrounding areas. I'll be happy to do whatever I can to make your stay a pleasant one. This is my personal home so please keep things clean and be respectful. This home should not be used for parties or events. If you have any questions please feel free to ask. I look forward to sharing my home with you.
(Corona virus concerns? -- I do all the cleaning myself, so I know the place is kept very clean. I have also recently started taking extra cleaning steps after each guest checks-out. For example, using sanitizing wipes on all of the door knobs, light switches and TV remotes through out the house. I use a fabric disinfectant spay on all the furniture and throw pillows. The towels, sheets and blankets are washed with a sanitizing soap and dried extra long at high heat in the dryer. I have hand sanitizing soap and wipes available for the guests to use. I would argue that my place is one of the best germ-free places you could be).

The house was very comfortable with all the amenities we needed and it was located in a great location that made it easy for us to go for runs and bike rides right out of the door. The owner was friendly and very helpful. We would definitely recommend this house to others.
Very clean, spacious, excellent internet
Clean, well-kept, unique, fun, excellent. Owner was detailed, helpful with quick communication.
This is our 3rd year staying at Josh's. Love having a porch, garage, washing and drying machines and lots of space. All very comfortable and love the decorations that are unique. The neighborhood is perfect for walk or ride bikes. We are close to West or East side of Madison plus the Ca
Excellent service everything was exactly like I thought it would be. Very clean, the place is beautiful and Josh is the coolest.Definitely recommending anyone to stay there. 5⭐️ Stay
Nice stay, well set home with everything you will need.
The house was great! It had a very modern cabin aesthetic to it, and we experienced no problems whatsoever. It was perfect for our weekend trip.
This was such a cute home! It has everything you need to cook and hangout. The tv is set up with Netflix and cable. This was perfect for our mini thanksgiving getaway.
Josh was very thorough and awesome to rent from! This place is so charming and cozy. Highly recommend!
Stayed here while in Madison to attend a family wedding. This house is immaculate, cozy and very comfortable. The location is close to many places of interest. The owner is easy to reach. We hope to stay here again when we next come to Madison.
Josh’s place was exactly as listed. Clean and comfortable with everything we needed to have an awesome girls weekend. Loved the seventies decor and all the beautiful plants thriving with the light from the huge windows. A gas fireplace insert would be a nice addition instead of needing to buy special logs and getting written permission, which we didn’t do. We recommend the house, wished I could have checked out the pedestrian paths. But, so much other things to do in nearby Madison and surrounding areas!
Quaint A-Frame. Super Host and WELL kept CLEAN place to stay. Quiet neighborhood.
I stayed here with four additional guests and we had a great time. The house is large and clean and in a quiet neighborhood very close to everything in Madison. Also, Josh, the owner, is very responsive. I had several questions for him during our stay and he responded to my texts very quickly. I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a place to stay in Madison.
As always, I enjoyed my stay. Josh works hard to make this location nice.
Do you like metallic wallpaper, avocado bathroom fixtures and black lights?? Well this is the place for you! Our stay was great—this property was clean, had easy access to Madison and the surrounding areas and the screened in porch for morning coffee was fabulous! Josh made everything easy from the get go—the kitchen has all the right utensils, the beds are comfy and the living areas are inviting—willing you to sit back, relax, play a board game or drink a beer with your friends. The neighborhood is fantastic and neighbors friendly...even the wild turkey that strolls around! The garage is a huge bonus. We will be back for sure!
We stayed here for a cousin's wedding in Madison and couldn't have been happier with our choice! The place was very clean and in great shape--clearly well taken care of. The screened in porch was fantastic, as were the spacious kitchen and comfy beds. The view of the treetops in the arboretum was a perfect backdrop to morning coffee or evening wine on the porch. The house has a comfortable layout with lots of room for everyone. My wife is a big fan of lighting options and there are plenty of those there! The place is full of quirky details from another era! If you're looking for a vanilla house with white walls and stark design, this probably isn't the spot for you, but if you want a place that's unique with a ton of character, you won't be disappointed! The place seems perfect for a family/friend gathering or just a romantic getaway for two! One tiny thing to be aware of is that the loft suite is only accessible by a narrow spiral staircase, so that will likely be out of reach for anyone with mobility issues. The host's instructions were thorough and clear with nothing left to guess and his communications were prompt and helpful. Couldn't ask for a better place to stay--thanks, Josh!
As good as the reviews say. Very nice place.
This place is very neat property (a time capsule with some eclectic touches) in a quiet neighborhood. We loved the screened in deck overlooking the arboretum. The owner was very quick to respond to our emails. Good experience.
We loved our stay at this truly one of a kind rental, filled with plants and retro decor. The highlight was enjoying an evening glass of wine on the porch/sun room, but this house is filled with charm, and I would definitely stay again.
Lovely, clean, older home in impeccable condition with lots of unique details. Quiet neighborhood with beautiful walking trails only minutes away; Josh was very helpful and quick to respond when I emailed a few days before our arrival asking for info about walking / hiking opportunities. We were there for the 2019 CrossFit Games and the location couldn't have been better - a very easy 5 minute drive to the venue, which made it easy to come back mid-afternoon when we needed a break from the sun and action! Overall extremely happy with this rental and we truly enjoyed our stay.
Second summer stay at Arbordale A unique setting with a unique home with good amenities Josh is a super host Mary and Paul
Josh has thoughtfully and beautifully set up many things in this house. The photos don't show the bedrooms or the kitchen but they are all nice.
Located in a quiet neighborhood, the unconventional design of the house makes it feel like a true getaway. It was clean and nicely furnished. Plenty of towels in the closets and kitchen supplies for cooking. This would be our first choice if we make it back to Madison!
A gem of a place to stay in a quiet neighborhood. A bit of traffic noise when sitting in the screened in porch or the deck. But, between the coziness of the space and the hospitality of the owner, the noise is not a deal-breaker.
This unusual home is full of charm and was very clean. Kitchen is well stocked. I loved being a short neighborhood walk from a hiking trail. We especially enjoyed relaxing on the screened in porch overlooking the arboretum. Would definitely stay here again.
I really enjoyed my stay. Place was super clean and close to everything: food, entertainment, UW-Arboretum, highway, you name it. The 1970's look throughout was interesting. I loved the big main windows and the bed was totally comfortable. I might give the cabinets and counters a little freshen-up, but this did not detract from the overall stay at all. The owner was friendly and very willing to help. Very pleasant experience!
This property is beautiful property for a family. The owner was extremely responsive, yet respected our privacy throughout our stay. We would happily stay here again.
Arbordale house was very clean and comfortable. Convenient location close to the beltline.
The house is nice and very convenient to Downtown and the University. The house was clean and check in and check out was easy. I would stay there again.
We loved this place. It was clean, comfortable, peaceful, and had everything you need. I'll for sure be looking to stay here first when coming back to Madison. Do note for those needing assistance, there is a set of stairs to enter the living space. But once you are in, there are two bedrooms on main level, plus the loft. Thank you for making us feel right at home during our visit!
We very much enjoyed our stay. The home was clean, very cute and had everything we needed including cofee and spices. Would definitely stay again! Thank you Josh!
We enjoyed our stay at Arbor House. The house is lovely and Josh is very attentive to the details. It’s a very peaceful spot.
Away from busy downtown, this was the perfect vacation rental home. Great location with an awesome view and easy access to plenty of things to to in the area. Home was clean and very relaxing with plenty of room. We felt like we were right at home. Exterior sunroom would be awesome to utilize in the summer months, unfortunately we had a winter stay. Owner was a pleasure to work with and was extremely accommodating. Highly recommend
Great house in a great location at a great price!
Beautiful Home located in the great location in Madison, Wisconsin. We had a fantastic Family reunion. Thanks Josh. Mary and Tom Peterson
Everything was shipshape and easy. Our only small complaint was the very strong smells of Glade and febreeze.
Great place... quiet yet close to downtown... Thank you, Josh
We enjoyed our stay at your updated, vintage A-frame home! The updates have not taken away from the character of this unique structure. Nice neighborhood for a walk after our meals- even though I thought we would be closer to the arboretum itself. We hope to come back for another stay sometime!
Josh was easy to work with and the house was great for a long weekend in Madison. Exactly as advertised.
This house is awesome!! The owner (Josh) is great to work with and was very accommodating. The rental is super unique and the overall vibe is fantastic and has that amazin “Madison” feel. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Madison!!
Great place! Very clean and comfortable
We stayed in Josh's wonderful home 10/23-10/27/2018. We were on a mini-vacation and had no knowledge of the area. I'm not a total fan for A-Frames but this one is special. We all felt at home from the time we opened the door. An added benefit was a 2 stall garage. All three bedrooms ....we only needed two; had comfy beds and large TV's in every room. The master is only available by a spiral staircase but we had no issues with that. From the comfortable king bed to even a sauna (we didn't use it) but a nice extra with large closets and 3/4 bath. What more could you ask for. It has a well stocked kitchen so it was nice to start the day off with coffee/breakfast before our daily travels even started. Josh's house is conveniently located. It is very near a major highway so there is noise but not inside and with that comes the ease of getting around. It made for easy commutes into Madison for our daily trips. From the beautiful campus of the Badgers, to several very nice gardens/arboretums. Olbrich Garden's were even nice off season. We made a second visit at night where the gardens were set up with light show exhibits "Gleam" and is a seasonal exhibit. The UW arboretum was also a great place to explore. It would be nice to see when everything is in bloom. Great walking... State St from museums to people watching and eateries. The Capital building has such a presence in Madison and is welcoming to all. The city of Madison is built around it and it is lit up at night as well. Such a pretty spot we went back a second time to explore it's history and outside touring deck with great views of the city. There are fossils built into the structure so you could challenge the kids to find them. We only found a "Star Fish" it said it was one of the most photographed one in the Capital. So no matter why you are visiting Madison and the surrounding area Josh's A-Frame is a great place to stay. Josh was very responsive from the beginning reservation to check out !!!! Thanks Josh for sharing your wonderful home.
Sleeps 3 couples well. Located near campus. Clean and spacious.
We were two couples who had flown to Madison from Virginia to get together with family, revisit some favorite places, and make side trips to Stoughton and Mt Hebron. Josh's place was well suited to all our needs. It was convenient to everywhere we wanted to go. It was a great environment for entertaining our aunt and cousin for supper one night. And the beds were very comfortable. Josh was quick to respond from start to finish and has done a great job of anticipating his short-stay guests' needs. Thanks for everything, Josh!
Great place to stay for girls week or weekend. Outside a little deceiving but inside wonderful. TV a little hard to navigate but once figured out ok. Would definitely come back. Owner very responsive to questions. Easy to get around area.
Immaculate, lovely home very close to downtown Madison. Charming and clean, we will always stay here when we visit Madison a few times a year!
This house has a great vibe. Madison has a very eclectic spirit and this home captures every bit of it. The space was clean and well organized. There were ample entertainment options - TVs in all bedrooms and one in the living room. The kitchen was stocked with pots, pans, etc. The house has a two car garage - which was fabulous. It even had a sauna! Location was great. It was convenient to everything in Madison. The neighborhood was quiet. I enjoyed a few walks through the neighborhood and enjoyed the peace. For the price of a mid-grade hotel, you can't beat this option!
The host was responsive, the house was in great shape, the posting reflected the location exactly. I would absolutely stay again if I am in the area. The only other thing I would note is that there is a stairway (maybe 10-12 stairs) to get up to the living area, and then another spiral stair case to access the loft bedroom. So just know that there are some stairs involved. It had no impact on our group, but I could imagine situations where it might.
I enjoyed staying there. Very clean and private. It was so much better than staying in a hotel.
The house is so beautiful! It is a great location- very easy to get many places in Madison. We could not be happier with our stay!
This A frame home is perfectly situated far enough from the hussle of UW and downtown but close enough for convenience. Very close to lots of restaurants in a quiet neighborhood next to the arboretum.
The space is really unique and clearly an ongoing project. But the retro portions of the home give it a one-of-a-kind feel. We felt right at home in the quiet neighborhood and with the arboretum just a short walk away. And we were able to easily drive downtown to enjoy good food and an evening movie on the Union Terrace. And when we had questions about parking, Josh quickly responded with options. All around a great trip!
Josh was always helpful. We stayed 29 days and loved the location in Madison. Clean, neat and tasteful decor. The screen porch was perfect and enjoyed all the live plants. We hope to do a repeat next July
Josh was really helpful and responded to our questions right away. The house was very well equipped and in a great location. Things were organized and clean.
Was very pleased with this location. Stayed for a long weekend in Madison and the house had everything we needed. Josh was very responsive to messages, had the house clean and ready for our arrival and we had no issues. The description of house and accommodations is accurate.
Josh’s place was perfect for our little reunion—like a quiet tree house for the in-group. Each of us had our own bedroom. We lounged around in the living room, drank coffee, chatted until the wee hours. Caught up on 40 years worth of news. Thanks for providing the perfect haven for us. Josh was very responsive to my texts and a most gracious host! He left bottled waters for us, soap, hair dryers and a full kitchen.
We rented this property for family to join us in Madison for graduation. It worked out great for us all to be together. The house has lots of character and is well stocked with basic necessities. Josh, the owner, is responsive and easy to work with. Would definitely stay again.
The property had everything you'd need, as long as you don't all have big vehicles. The place is clean and quiet and we loved the decorating.
The house is as described and a great spot for a small group. A group of six stayed here and we were comfortable the whole time. Cooked a couple meals over the weekend and watched a few march madness basketball games. The bedrooms were perfect with a queen and one single in each of the main level bedrooms. The living room and loft were comfortable and easy to relax in. The only thing I was not aware of was the attached apartment, but this didn't effect our stay. Our group took Uber/Lyft to get downtown, which was very easy. Hope you enjoy your stay!
The house was as described and everything was in good condition. All of the TVs, projectors, and internet worked well and we had no problems with them. Check in and out was very simple and our host was very responsive to questions about our stay. I would recommend this property without reservations.
The house is very beautiful and in a quiet neighborhood. It came with everything we needed to be comfortable. Each bedroom had it's own tv which was nice. We enjoyed our stay very much.
Email sent to owner explaining problems with this home along with pictures for proof: Hello Josh, I wanted to send you an email and a few pictures to discuss our recent stay before I go forth and rate this with VRBO. Upon arrival to your home, there was an immediate dank and musty smell to the house. It desperately needed aired out. When we had unpacked, my son went to sit on the couch and a stink bug climbed out from under the cushions. A few minutes later I sat down to read and ANOTHER stink bug climbed on the pillow. As the day went on, I found more and more bugs and to be honest it was gross and made my skin crawl. When I went to open the sliding glass door to let the stink bug outside, I noticed quite a few dead bugs behind your couch and between the glass door. It looked like the house hadn’t been cleaned at all before our arrival. When we all went to bed, upstairs in the loft there were ladybugs flying around in our bedside lampshade and one flying on the tv. And to no surprise-another stink bug in the upstairs shower AND the hallway to the bathroom closets. The downstairs bedroom to the left when walking down the hallway (with the blue comforter) has a serious water leak from your roof. My son placed his glasses and iPhone on the ledge to the left of the bed (when facing the bed) and when he awoke the next morning, his glasses and phone were sitting in a pool of water. I have also taken pictures of that so you can see the water damage on the wood leading down to the wooden shelf above the bed. I am beyond astonished at what we paid for this house. Not worth the money AT ALL. I feel that some sort of refund/compensation should be offered by you in good faith as we felt the residence was poorly maintained and we were mislead that we’d be sleeping in a clean home. Lastly-when sitting at your kitchen table, my son turned on the overhead light and there were at least 20 dead bugs sitting in the light. Then I went to grab a coffee cup and it was filthy and obviously not washed. I took pictures of that as well. I will await for your response on this disappointing situation before I proceed with contacting VRBO and then leaving my review. Owner sent an email stating my perception of his home was ‘wrong’ and that if I agreed not to write a review, he’d refund me $100. Sorry-I can not be bought to be quiet. This home is bug infested.
Don't stay in a boring motel or plain old house. This 3 bedroom gem has comfort and beauty at a good price! See that blue ceiling in the loft bedroom? That is "indian"-type cloth lit by black-lights; very cool. Josh's place had every thing our group of ladies needed for a Madison weekend. The kitchen was well-equipped for making margaritas and an Asian pork dish. The beds had comfy pillow tops and everything was clean. It was a short drive to the Alliant Center for the WPS Garden Expo and to downtown to go out to eat. There is a TV in every room for those who like that sort of thing; we watched some of the winter Olympics in the living room. The view outside from there is to the north, overlooking the Arboretum. Room for 2 cars in the garage. We'd gladly rent Josh's place again! Thanks, Josh!
This place is so cool. Me and 5 buddies stayed here for a pond hockey tournament. While the 50 degree weather we got that weekend made skating on frozen ice hard, Josh made getting comfy super easy in this awesome, 4 BR artists' pad. Outfitted with weathered world atlas wallpaper in the entranceway, a spiral staircase up to a tapestry-laden A-frame lofted master bed, a shower-adjacent sauna, 2 TVs, 2 projectors, 2 car garage, AND screened-in porch, you'll be blown away by the amenities and aesthetics in this crib. Do yourself a favor and book this for your next Madison, WI trip. - Mack
Pictures didn't do the house justice. Stunning place.
This charming A-frame home was perfect for our football weekend getaway and Josh was a fantastic, communicative host. Two private rooms with queen beds and a shared bathroom are downstairs, with a master loft upstairs looking out into the arboretum complete with king bed, bathroom and sauna. There are two cots that Josh pulled out for our use too. High quality bug TVs throught. There's a garage if you have a car, or you can carshare to/from downtown Madison/Camp Randall, etc for $10-20 depending on demand. Short of finding something within walking distance of campus, I would stay here again hands-down.
