This home was an absolute pleasure. Loved the location and the home was very comfortable. We would definitely come back !!
When you're here you feel like you're in a mini country estate in the 1930's complete with a babbling brook. Private, yet within minutes of everything you need including nice restaurants. The kitchen, baths and laundry room all very well stocked. A dramatic central staircase complete with a mirrored landing leads to four loveingly decorated bedrooms. The living room has a useable fireplace, a piano, and bookcases filled with classics if you want to just relax with a cup of tea and read. Had a great time.
Very smooth, all together a perfect long weekend rental.
We spent a week at this charming house which had everything we needed to feel right at home. The house was iclean and comfortable. We grilled and ate on the patio every night (although we could have easily gone out in one of the many adorable towns that are nearby) and loved the sound of the stream that runs along the property. We would highly recommend as a cozy place to stay with lots to do nearby whether you are an adventurer, a nature lover, arts or music lover, shopping lover or just a relaxation lover!
This was the perfect place to return to after a full day of climbing boulders and mountains and enjoying the autumn splendor of the Berkshires. The hosts provided everything we could possibly have wanted from the welcoming bottle of excellent wine, to a real fire ready to light, a good selection of jazz cd’s, and a comfortable bed. A couple of nice Adirondack chairs overlooking a sparkling river gave us a good place to enjoy wine and cheese at the end of the day. Many nearby restaurants provided fine takeout dinners each day. It all added up to a wonderfully memorable October getaway.
This was a great place to stay. We rented the house for two weeks, and it was perfectly situated near Great Barrington. The house itself was super charming with tons of old details and features that made it feel really cozy and warm. Highly recommend it.
We had a lovely week at this home. The hosts were outstanding--very responsive when we had a minor problem with the cable tv. The house is clean and well stocked.
This was a repeat stay at this cozy home for my sisters and me while we enjoyed our stay in the Berkshires. The owners supplied the home with just about anything we could have needed during our stay. A really great home with plenty of room and lighting.
Beautiful 1920’s colonial with elegant moldings and double doors. Easy living, our host thought of everything. Great vacation home, convenient location.
This is a wonderful, unique house! The furnishings are elegant and comfortable --- you feel as though you are living in an elegant 19th c. home! There are wonderful books and Berkshires info as well. The most unique feature is that the house is built in to a hillside so the downstairs stays very cool (and a little damp) even when it is hot out. The upstairs bedrooms are lovely. The only downside is that you need to pass through a bedroom to get to each of the smaller rooms. There are many thoughtful touches for guests . . . A welcome bottle of wine and snacks; well-stocked pantry so you don't need to buy spices etc if you are planning to cook. We loved the house and would certainly rent it again ! And plenty towels!
We thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay in this very clean, lovely home. It is centrally located to Berkshire attractions but so far back from the road as to feel really private. The kitchen is well stocked with utensils and appliances and the beds are very comfortable. The property is lush and green with plenty of shade on the patio even on the hottest days. The ac in the bedrooms works well. The one worry is that just across the driveway in front of the house - and it’s a long driveway, - the lawn precipitously drops 10 feet or more into the boulder strewn Williams river. Our granddaughter was a novice toddler so routinely hovered over close to the house. But as the owners point out in their house instructions, (active) children have to be carefully supervised outside. They cannot just go out and play on their own. With the right age cohort, this is a delightful summer rental.
Enjoyed our stay at this beautiful property!!!
Our stay in Great Barrington was great. Home was as described and well appointed. The owners were incredibly helpful and professional. Absolutely loved the peaceful property, proximity to town and sights, and the comfortable house. It was an excellent find.
Beautiful home in a gorgeous rural setting. Girls weekend to visit Kripalu, Lenox and Stockbridge worked out great! House is conveniently located to all. Owners were responsive from our first contact about the home, booking, pre-stay info, questions during our stay through departure. Would highly recommend.
Very cozy , and close to the slopes
The downstairs is where we spent most of our time. The fireplace in the living room area is just delightful and most nights we fell asleep in there only to drag ourselves up there very early in the morning. Great soaking tub and all the amenities you could possibly need. Right near town but far enough away that you feel like you are not bothered by tourists or other people. The owners are an absolute delight and highly responsive to any questions you may have.
We had a wonderful time, plenty of space, charming living room where my husband and kids and I played the piano all weekend long, and attended a family wedding at the nearby Guthrie Center. House was very clean, and the hosts left snacks and wine for us which we enjoyed after getting in late and not being able to get out to the grocery store till the next day.
The house is comfortable and charming. It's a wonderful place to come back to after being out and about at the many things there are to do in the Berkshires. We have stayed their several times and practically think of it as our second home. It is spacious and cozy and the friends we have shared it with have loved it as well. We would strongly recommend this lovely home
The house was very well equipped - kitchen well stocked with both basic foodstuff and dishes/equipment for cooking. Relaxing and charming.
Our week in this beautiful home was restful and rejuvenating. The Great Barrington location is ideal - we were within comfortable driving distance from the many cultural and natural highlights the area has to offer. The house was clean, well-furnished and comfortable. There was a real sense of (family) history in the home, as well as efficient wifi and other modern technology. It was wonderful to be able to use the piano. The kitchen and bathrooms were well-stocked with anything we'd need, and the facilities (washer/drier/dishwasher) were excellent. We hope to be able to return at some point in the future! Only recommendation: the kitchen knives should be sharpened.
My family and I enjoyed our stay. The house is tastefully decorated, but comfortable. Well maintained. It's set back from main road. Very quiet. The location was close to downtown Great Barrington, Routes 7,and 41. The only complaint for me was the position of the kitchen sink! Definitely designed for a tall person with long arms!
We stayed here 6 weeks and loved every minute. A beautiful home in a beautiful wooded setting right on the Williams River. Great to sit on the patio or by the river and read, work, or just relax. The living room is enormous with a piano, very comfortable furniture, tasteful decoration, a fine library and TV and sound systems--excellent movies and music. The kitchen has everything you need and the dining room seats a large family. The four bedrooms are large, with very comfortable beds and excellent linens. The bathrooms are fully equipped, again with quality towels, etc. Very convenient to Great Barrington, Housatonic, and Stockbridge. Owners are extremely responsive and accommodating. We could not have had a better time. A tremendous value.
Great place to stay. Very roomy and comfortable. The owners were great to deal with and communication with them was very easy. The place has pretty much everything that you need and the location is very close to the town and stores and area attractions.
We had a fantastic experience in this beautiful, historical Home. The owner was very communicative and helpful. Everything is clean, well maintained, and well-stocked. It is a great rental for those comfortable with getting up in the middle of the night and passing by sleeping family members to use the restroom. Might be a tad uncomfortable for those who are not so well acquainted. We found this aspect to be part of the historical beauty. Easy access to town and the Appalachian trail was what we were seeking and this home fit the bill. We celebrated thanksgiving here and lacked for nothing. Great home!
We are two families who spent a lovely fall weekend at this elegant and comfortable home on the Williams River near Great Barrington. The location was what attracted us to it initially. We made easy side trips to Lenox and Stockbridge and enjoyed meals and shopping in Great Barrington. The house itself is accommodating with plenty of room for eight people. We gathered in the evenings in the large living room and each one of us took a turn playing the grand piano. There are four commodious bedrooms upstairs. The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed for the meals we had in. The owners were easy to reach when we had questions. The environs are restful and quiet. Highly recommended.
My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful week at this property. It has many unique features - including a large dining room that has a country farmhouse feel to it, music room with tuned baby grand piano, lovely patio area with a grass grill. The owners have thought of everything - equipping the kitchen with some essentials (condiments, coffee) and it offered all the basic comforts of home. The location was perfect, and we took advantage of all the Berkshires has to offer! It exceeded all my expectations, and it will be a vacation I'll always treasure.
We spent a week in July in this beautiful home that has been carefully restored and maintained by the owners. Our criteria for this vacation were met in every way with the added bonus of exquisitely comfortable beds! There was plenty of room for our 2-year-old to explore inside and out. And the long driveway gave her opportunity to ride her scooter safely while we sat on the patio and by the river. The house is set back on the property giving it a sense of privacy and at the same time it is centrally located. We had easy access to the surrounding towns for dining out and shopping as well the outdoors for cycling and canoeing. The owners were very responsive and enthusiastic. They clearly take pride in the property. We loved it and we are looking forward to coming back!
Wonderful family weekend in a beautiful home and close to everything!
Four sisters stayed for a knitting girls getaway. The house has a lot of charm, and the owners have stocked it well with a lot of toiletries and kitchenware so we didn't need anything during our stay. A lot of room, beds very comfortable. We hope to stay there again in the future.
We just spent MLK weekend at this home. It's really spacious. We were 2 families and there was plenty of room for us. The house is really warm and well appointed. I would definitely recommend staying there.
If I could give this home 10 stars, I would - that's how much we loved it. My family and I stayed for 5 days and couldn't have been more impressed with the lovely home and generous accoutrements with which Rich and Kathy appointed the house. We felt more like we were staying at their home while they were away, rather than a vacation home. The house was warm and inviting, nicely decorated, had a great selection of music, movies and books, well stocked kitchen and bathrooms (complete with all toiletries and dryers), and the list goes on and on. The grounds were lovely and the location was perfect, being only about 5-10 minutes from the cute little town of Great Barrington. I've stayed in many vacation homes over the years and this was by far my favorite. Thank you, Russ and Kathy!
We had a wonderful stay at this beautiful property. The bedroom layout was perfect for our two families of four. The house was so well stocked with everything you could imagine (sugar, olive oil, soap, shampoo, conditioner, tons of towels), and it was even decorated with little pumpkins for the fall. The property is beautiful and private with a small creek running along the edge. We spent a good deal of time outside, and there's a very long driveway- perfect for the kids to run around safely or even ride bikes. the property is centrally located, but also feels remote and private. Russ was wonderful to work with and even came to our home to pick up one set of house keys we inadvertently stole. Talk about service! The best part, however, is that the only check-out requirements were to leave the beds we used unmade. That's it! We have stayed at many properties where we were required to do loads of laundry, run the dishwasher, take out the trash, sweep the floor, etc. and it was so nice to not feel like we had to wake up early to do everything required. We will definitely be back.
This house has a lot of character--from architectural details and high ceilings to a well-chosen selection of books, music, and games and even a baby grand piano. The internet is fast and reliable and TV includes a network-connected Blu-ray player so you can connect to your own Netflix account. The location is near stores but feels like it's away from everything.
Russ and Kathy are wonderful to work with and very accommodating. Their home is unique, comfortable and private. The location is central to all the attractions in the area. We plan to return in the Fall!
A wonderful place to stay. This is a beautiful home with so many amenities! We enjoyed the home, the yard, and a great location. We hope to come back many more times. Russ was very responsive and easy to work with . Thanks for sharing your home with our family, we made wonderful memories there!
We recently stayed at Russ and Kathy's beautiful home for a month. It was perfect for our family of 5 and small dog. The house is completely furnished and has everything you need to include shampoo, soap, toilet paper, etc. You don't need to bring a thing. Prior to our arrival, Russ and Kathy were very thorough and prompt with communication. They gave us very detailed instructions about anything we would need to know. During our stay, one of the bed frames broke when our daughter was sitting on it. I mentioned it to them right away because I didn't want it to affect our security deposit. They responded immediately and a new bed was delivered promptly the following morning which I did not expect! It was not a big deal as we had enough beds, but they were very apologetic about it and took action instantly. The home is located just a short ride to town and to skiing. It is quiet and relaxing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and couldn't have asked for more accommodating hosts. We would definitely come back.
8 of us (2 families of 4) stayed here over the MLK weekend and went skiing at Butternut and Catamount. Very convenient to Great Barrington and Butternut. The owners were very accomodating, leaving nice touches like tons of towels. The board game collection was a lot of fun too! We've stayed at several places in the area and this is by far the best.
This older home has so much character. The setting is convenient to Great Barrington and Stockbridge. It has a lovely property complete with a river running through it. The owners thoughtfully supplied everything we needed including soap and shampoo in the bathrooms. This was a wonderful find. I will definitely stay here again.
Our family of four loved this house. As stated by other guests it is so much more than the pictures show. We had a full schedule for our trip to the Berkshires but found ourselves arranging to be home in the early afternoon/evenings to enjoy this lovely home. The garden by the river, the expansive lawn and the overall ambience made this a great retreat from a busy day sightseeing or hiking. Great Barrington/Stockbridge seem to be the best places to be in the Berkshires. The locals were so welcoming and the house was central to everything we wanted but still away from everything. We were a little worried when we realised there was a rail line nearby. Needn't have worried - we only heard a train twice in five days and even then only during the day. Everything you need is supplied - plenty of towels and lovely bed linen and furnishings. Families with young children will need to watch them in the garden but it is a great place to sit anyway...
This property is amazing. The location is perfect - 5 mins to town, 8 mins to butternut. Set back from the road, secluded (no visible neighbors from inside the house) on a river, amazing bones (exquisite chandelier, grand piano, antique details, sweeping staircase, carved moldings and French doors, fireplaces, hardwood floors) along with great, tasteful and useful upgrades (lovely claw footed tub, new mudroom, easy access to new washer, dryer, nest heating controls, blueray player). The living space is grand and comfortable - plenty of seating (essentially 2 living rooms connected). The wood for the fireplace is accessible and plentiful - bonus there is no extra charge for wood! There are views of the river from the bedrooms - and each bedroom is tasteful and comfortable. Master is spacious. For bathing - well stocked (shampoo and body wash, plenty of towels). Water is plenty warm and water pressure great. Great dining space fits 6-8 comfortably. Kitchen is small but easy to use and well stocked. The owners are incredibly easy going, personable and professional. We were welcomed with a personal note, bottle of wine and biscotti. Any time I emailed the owner - I got an immediate and reasonable response. And as a second time renter of the property - already had established trust with the owners. Our kids talk about this house during the year - and we promise them a week next year. Highly recommend!
My sister, brother and I rented this place for the 6 of us to gather for the holiday. It was a perfect location. The house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. I loved how it was decorated and the character of the place. The beds were comfortable. We all felt immediately at home there. The bedroom layout wouldn't work for everyone and because it is an old house the floors are creaky at night, however this did not detract from us wanting to return in the future. I loved the river running through the property, the sound of it as well as the beauty of it. The owners were very responsive and easy to deal with. I would definitely recommend this house to friends!
My husband and I, along with our Westie, Zipper, spent 5 wonderful weeks in this lovely home, coming from Georgia to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We were charmed by the many exquisite architectural features in this house; one has only to look closely at the pictures, which are an accurate representation. The kitchen and bathrooms are small by today's standards, but are true to size for a home almost 100 years old! The home was very well maintained, and I would guess it had been a beloved home of a happy family. A couple of things it may be helpful for a large group to know..... All 4 bedrooms are upstairs, and guests staying in the two with twin beds must pass through an adjacent bedroom to access the bathroom. It wasn't an issue for the two of us as we only used 1 of the bedrooms, but a large group of non-family members would want to be aware of this layout. A small claw foot bathtub was added to the half bathroom downstairs, making it a full bath, immediately prior to our arrival, and it was perfect for our needs. In fact, everything about this house was perfect! The owners were delightful to work with as well--responsive, kind, and considerate. There is a river on the property running parallel to the driveway, where we enjoyed coffee every morning. While the house is only about 5 minutes from downtown Great Barrington, the setting is so private that you feel as if you are in the country. The house isn't air-conditioned, and we were a little concerned that we might be trading the heat and humidity of a Georgia summer for one in Massachusetts, but that was a needless worry. Abutting a hillside, the house remained cool throughout our 5 weeks there -- even upstairs (and there are fans in every bedroom). Not only was the location perfect for its proximity to downtown GB, it was also ideal for short day trips to Connecticut (we especially enjoyed Kent), western New York, and the entire Berkshires area. GB itself, as well as 90 minutes in any direction, promises a variety of culturally rich offerings including concerts, plays, etc. And, you must visit the Berkshire Mountain Bakery in Housatonic (about 10 minutes from the house) for the amazing variety of breads and home-made pizzas. The bread with dark chocolate was worth every pound gained from our (MY) almost daily indulgence. And, if you're traveling with a dog, you'll want to visit Tina at Ben's Dotter Pet Store and Robin at Wash & Wag for grooming. A delightful stay all around!
Short drive to the slopes, this quaint, nicely detailed home offers the nostalgic coziness characteristic of the gentle Berkshires. Gracious hosts and plenty of snow made our stay pleasantly memorable. After ski, many delicious food choices: Berkshire Mountain Bakery; Old Inn in Marlborough for dinner; Guido's Fresh Market; Taft Farms just down the road. After a long day this is the perfect place to curl up and read a good book. There is a cell signal which is a luxury in the Berkshires. Thank you for your hospitality!
My wife and I just returned from a wonderful stay at this home It is ideally situated near a main road (but well far off to avoid any road noise), only a few minutes from downtown Great Barrington, Ski Butternut. It is very well equipped and beautifully restored Excellent communication and follow-up from the owners!
A very comfortable house close to Tanglewood Music Festival, Berkshire Theater Festival, Jacobs Pillow, and lots of other fun things to do. Nearby lake swimming for the kids. Great little towns to explore in The Berkshires. The owners were very friendly and accommodating. We'd recommend it and we'll stay there again.
My husband and I took my parents here for a week's stay in the Berkshires. The house was beautifully appointed, accommodating, and perfect for people who love books and music! The grounds were also lovely--and the best part? A noisy river right within steps of the front door!
We rented the house for a week to celebrate my little sister's upcoming wedding with several of her close friends. I can not say enough good things about the house or about the owner, Russ. When we arrived, we were welcomed with a surprise bottle of wine and gourmet cookies, which was a treat after the long drive to Great Barrington. The property is beautiful and well-equipped, but what really makes it special are the charming architectural details and the amazing setting overlooking a rushing stream. It was the perfect place for us to catch up, relax, grill, and take it easy. The house is located only ten minute drive from Great Barrington so there's easy access to lots of amazing shops and restaurants, even though you feel a world away when you're staying at this house.
We rented this amazing house for the entire 2013 ski season at Butternut and were so happy we did. Our children did weekly ski school at Butternut and having a wonderful house to go to every weekend sure beat booking the Comfort Inn(where we stayed for 2011) and was better value. The house is beautiful and has much character. Our family of four had so much space and we also had lots of room for visiting grandparents. The location was great - close to Butternut and Great Barrington but a very peaceful location. Our children enjoyed the huge yard for snowmen and snow fort building and they even found a sledding hill down the side of the house. It was so nice to come back after a day of skiing and have our own kitchen with wonderful large lounge rooms and fire place. Russ and Kathy were the best of hosts. They were very responsive to our questions and any things that came up. The added bonus of being able to email Russ ahead of coming for the weekend to let him know our arrival time, then arrive to the house being warmed up was great for those cold night drives from the city. I wish we could rent the house again for 2014 but we have moved away from the Northeast. Thanks Russ and Kathy for a wonderful season at Butternut! Hope all is well.
We cannot say enough nice things about this property. The house has the most homey comfortable feel. We really did not care to go anywhere - we enjoyed the house so much. We sit for two hours in the front yard watching the Williams River run slowly by and the leaves fall off the trees; so peaceful and so relaxing. The beds and covers are perfect - so cozy. If we did not have grandchildren in Texas, we would want to live in this beautiful home forever. Also Great Barrington is a great, enjoyable town. We would recommend this listing as more than EXCELLENT!
My 4 friends and I stayed here for the weekend. The house is wonderfully appointed with all of the amenities one could ask for, It is charming, beautiful and it was immaculate. The locations is perfect if you plan to take advantage of the wonderful cultural and outdoor venues available in the Berkshires. The owner made it so easy to rent and is totally committed to making sure his guests are comfortable and welcome. I highly recommend this rental.
I was looking for a welcoming home where my dog and I could relax, hike and enjoy all the area had to offer. I found it in this home set in a beautiful, relaxing environ ment. The house is spacious, well appointed and full of the extra amenities that make a house a home. We hiked Monument Mountain (1.7 miles), Benedict Pond (1.5 miles) and the shorter, newly developing trail on the Housatonic. Locally, Guido's Market is a must! Local retail stores offered a variety of interesting goods which I did not totally resist! I highly and happily recommend this home for your next time away from your home.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Great Barrington at this wonderful and unique house. The park-like setting is next to a brook and we enjoyed al fresco dining on the patio every night. The owner is very attentive and left wine and cookies as an arrival gift. We went twice to to enjoy music at the Guthrie Center which is a walk around the corner (don't miss Thursday's Hootenanny) and saw Judy Collings at the Mahaiwie in Great Barrington. We also enjoyed running and biking in the neighborhood and hiked Monument Mountain and the trail to Bash Bish Falls. The kayaking on nearby Lake Buel and the Housatonic was great.
The photos absolutely do not do this marvelous property justice! We enjoyed a terrific two weeks here over Memorial Day weekend. The house is beautiful, well-equipped, immaculately clean and located very conveniently between Great Barrington and Housatonic. The owners are extremely responsive and dealt with all of our questions very promptly. I highly recommend it!
We stayed for three nights and throughly enjoyed ourselves. The house was large and spacious but had a very comfortable, relaxed feeling. The exquisite design and detail in the home was a pleasent surprise. Our children were amazed by some new detail around every corner. The two fireplaces in one room was a big hit and very cozy to sit around at night while playing board games. The owners were a delight to work with and we look forward to visiting again in the future!
Great house. I stayed there last weekend with five of my friends and we couldn't have been happier with it. The living room is spacious and beautiful and homey and we sat around the fireplace for hours. The owners were so attentive, checking in to see if we needed anything, and leaving wine and snacks for us. We all hope to come back some time.
Spent a week here with our 6 children aged 2 to 12. A good location for day trips to canoe at Onota, hike at Monument Mountain, and visit a museum. And a sturdy home to ride out the remnants of Irene! Russ and Lewis were very responsive to our needs and desires. Great Barrington has a neat river walk. The house has a great deal of character and charm. We'd love to come again soon ... the photos on the website don't do it justice. Very Peaceful ... our favorite VRBO house to date ...
The house was wonderful --- what a beautiful spot you have there in the Berkshires. We loved Great Barrington (esp. SoCo creamery) and enjoyed biking to the bakery in Housatonic and hiking up Monument Mountain. The house was clean, spacious and comfortable. Our dog loved it too! We'd love to come back some day.
We were pleasantly surprised by the grandeur of this wonderful home. We were able to ride our bikes 5-10 minutes into town. And the sound of the river on the property provided a most restful and soothing experience.
