This 800 sq. ft. cozy cottage looks out over the hay field and the old barn and is steps away from the organic garden. The large kitchen has everything you'll need for cooking family meals. The living room has a comfy queen futon with memory foam topper and can be closed off to make a second bedroom. There is a large back yard with outdoor furniture. The living room has a TV/DVD player and games for indoor entertainment. The cottage is adjacent to our residence but we give guests all the privacy they need. The entrance is on the opposite side from our house.
The cottage is on a small hay farm with some rescued farm animals . There are orchards and hayfields nearby, and while mostly peaceful and quiet, you may occasionally hear typical farming practices. Our horses, chickens, turkeys and dog are all friendly.
Dogs must be leashed when outside fenced yard
very good experience. good location. very quiet. this is indeed a small hay farm, next to an orchard. horses, chickens, and turkeys and geese.
My son and I and our two dogs felt very much at home in this lovely rustic, though elegant cottage. It was very comfortable, clean and Lin, the property manager was very helpful.
What a wonderfully relaxing environment situated between horse pasture and orchards. The cottage has a homey feel as soon as you walk in like a welcoming hug from a family member. The hosts are wonderful and views of the pasture is incredible. There are visitors - horses, chickens and the occasional turkey, but all are pleasant and add to the country experience. Loved it very much.
Delightful all the way around. Great kitchen for all our Thanksgiving cooking and baking, cozy bedroom and living room. It was special to have the firepit set up so we could visit with friends while social distancing.
We had a lovely time staying here for 9 nights. This is definitely a true old country cottage on a farm. Rooster crows in the morning too! If you're looking for a complete break from internet, stay here. It didn't work the entire time I stayed there and couldn't download pictures to my laptop, but other than that the property is gorgeous. Despite it being very old and needing plumbing updated, door fixed so you don't break off the key when opening and bugs coming in, it was such a quaint place to stay! Lin the owner was wonderful to work with. Just think if you're prepared for these inconveniences, then it's a great experience overall!
The Bernhardts are gracious and generous hosts and were always available to answer questions and provide information. The cottage is on a lovely farm property, and I imagine it is gorgeous in the late spring, summer and autumn. We were there in February and March, so the blooms were just beginning. It is a very peaceful setting.
Beds could use updating. Garden was lovely!
the peace on this property is palpable, making it an ideal place to retreat. The gentle presence of the rescue animals adds a special note of healing. Lin and Lynn were gracious and generous with their help and assistance, and achieved a wonderful balance of accessibility without intrusion. Altogether a beautiful experience. . . .
Wonderful natural small farm setting. Only two minutes to Talent and ten minutes to Ashland. The hosts are great. My first choice the next time I visit the area.
While this property is older, we found the location and amenities to be enjoyable. Lin was easy to work with and made our stay very nice.
We greatly enjoyed our stay in the cottage. It had everything we needed, plus the dogs loved playing in the fenced yard right outside the door! It was beautiful seeing the farm covered in snow. Super easy drive to town. Thanks for having us!
We loved our base of operations for visiting family, hiking, and seeing plays. It was comfortable and a great location. My local friend says Talent is too citified now, compared to when he grew up there, but we like the new restaurants and Lin's place is the opposite of citified. Great fenced (separated) yard for my dogs.
I came with friends to Ashland, like thousands of others, to see plays at OSF. We wanted to stay some place where we could soothe our psyches after seeing two tragedies, and we knew a motel wasn't going to fit the bill. Lin and Lynn's Shady Grove Farm was perfect! Our first afternoon, we sat in the cottage's large back yard, soaking up the spring sun and enjoying talking to the turkey, rooster, horses and our lovely hosts. The next afternoon we were greeted home by Zephyr and Tyler racing around the hay field, kicking up their heels with joy and freedom. Just what we needed after 3 hours of Othello! Lin and Lynn are warm and welcoming hosts, and are also caring stewards of their animals, property and community -- these are good people! Definitely will recommend Shady Grove to others, and will return in the future. Thanks Lin and Lynn!
Very shaded area so even with the heat we stayed cool. Peaceful pond on the grounds, with chickens and horses and dogs. Fully stocked kitchen. Most of all, very nice people. Would return.
My wife and I have been members of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival since 1984, and have been visiting the Ashland area since the late 1970s. We haven't stayed everywhere there is to stay, of course, but we have certainly dipped our toes in many different types of places. Usually, the plays and an occasional outstanding meal dominate our memories, but once in a while the place where we stay is also remarkable. Shady Grove Farm offered one of our more memorable experiences. We are rural people, have our own large garden, and are quite used to country life. Lin and Lynn made us feel immediately at home. They were welcoming and generous, but also very discrete and not intrusive, though just around the corner from the cottage. The cottage itself is extremely comfortable and well-appointed. The kitchen is large, and we actually took all but one of our meals in it, which is quite a change for us. There are chickens, and chickens make noise, to be sure ... but it is the type of noise that we find natural and reassuring. I mention it because it is about the only noise you are going to hear. Lovely. We will return, and we seldom say that.
It is hard to put into words the feeling of staying at the cottage on this enchanting farm.Whether it was our smiles when seeing the two proud family of geese pararde by the lovely pond, with their goslings or the sunlight filtering through the budding trees while walking down the lane, or maybe the dramatic clouds on the nearby mountain vistas, made everyday a joy. The cottage itself was very confortable and well appointed for our month long stay. Our hosts Lynn and Lin were very gracious and attentive to any needs we had, including fresh organic eggs ! Being animal and nature lovers it was a treat to be living amongst horses, all the feathered friends and of course , Jack , the Great Pyrenees, greeting us everyday. I wish there was a 10 star rating, as I would gladly give it,
My husband and 2 daughters enjoyed our stay here while visiting family in the area. It is very quiet and comfortable. It feels much roomier than 800 sq ft and the kitchen has everything you need. We all had a nice stay. I would like to add that the price quoted for this property is only applicable for 2 people and any additional guests are an extra $15 per person per night. Unfortunately, we were not made aware of this until the day of our departure when we were informed by the property owner that we owed an additional $150 additional guest fee. We were told this was a VRBO error and it should have been charged when we booked the property. The owner has offered to refund half of the $150 additional guest fee. I just want to make sure future guests are aware of the pricing.
We have stayed on the farm several times. It is a refreshing change from hotel life. We love the beauty of the farm and Lin and Lynn are very hospitable. Would highly recommend for a trip in the area. Beth and Jim
Getting away to Shady Grove farm was the epitome of a peaceful retreat. The hosts were lovely and accommodating, they welcomed myself and my two beloved dogs and even surprised me with a basket of farm fresh goodies the morning of my birthday. The whole experience was extremely special and utterly comfortable and relaxing. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this beautiful country cottage to anyone who is looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of every day life. The country air and hospitality was refreshing and rejuvenating!
My son and I stayed at the cottage. The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was fully equipped. Beautiful property with lovely views. We hope to stay there again next summer!
We spent several weeks at Shady Grove while visiting a new grandchild nearby. It was the perfect oasis for us. The cottage has everything you would want--and if you need something else, the owners provide it immediately. Lynn and Lin are gracious, charming, and bend over backward to make sure you are happy. We loved the large kitchen and cooked for the new parents, something impossible in a hotel room. The farm horses and chickens were delightful--and the horses especially scenic. Our small dog was welcome and enjoyed the companionship of the farm dogs, who were friendly too. Very convenient to the town of Talent and supermarket and laundromat. Also midway between Medford and Ashland. We can't wait to return.
