Stayed Jan 24, 2021The location is fabulous, only one block to the harbor/boardwalk area and two blocks to the main downtown street. House is very quaint and cute. My only complaint was the one bathroom is down stairs and the stairs are wrap around so need to proceed cautiously if needing to go down in the middle of the night.

Stayed Nov 24, 2025My family and I have stayed in this property for a few years now, always Thanksgiving week. Upon arrival, a couple small things were in need of attention, emailed Scott, and were addressed rt away. This location is a 3 minute walk from Marine Ave (village), which is very convenient. The amenities of the house all work and function which makes eating in very doable. Balboa Island is a special place for all of us, and look forward to more stays.

Stayed Aug 10, 2025This beautiful cottage was exactly as described. It was the perfect place for our family of 5 to make so many memories of long beach days and sunny skies at the end of summer break before heading back to school. We especially enjoyed the porch, the quiet neighborhood, and the quick walk to the Balboa ferry. We’ll be back!

Stayed May 13, 2025Another wonderful stay at 201 Amethyst! This was my 9th year in the same cottage. Wouldn't have it any other way. The front porch is what attracted me to this cottage the first time I stayed. We enjoy having our coffee and evening cocktail and visit with all who walk by. The kitchen is handy to cook in and yet it's nice to not cook at all and enjoy the restaurants within walking distance. The main street is loaded with restaurants and shops. Our favorite restaurants are Snipe Island and Trattoria Italian. One of the best things about the location of the cottage is how relaxing it is to be able to walk the the bayfront, restaurants, and a market for last minute things. It's also an easy walk to the ferry and a very short ride across to take a dip in the ocean or just walk along the water. Our Grandkids love it ! I look forward to another stay at my cozy, friendly haven on the island next year.

Stayed May 5, 2025Had a wonderful stay. The cottage was neat as a pin. Great for a family with small kids. Perfectly located — a short walk to downtown and the bay shore, and a good walk to the ferry.

Stayed Apr 15, 2025This was a super cute house that was perfect for our family's short visit. It was clean, and the pictures of the property were very accurate - definitely a cottage! Location was walkable to shops and the ferry. There was a thoughtful welcome note and amenity, which was a nice touch! There was a lot of construction on the island, so it was noisy... not the owner's fault. Bring a sound machine, because it's a busy island!

Stayed Mar 12, 2025A lovely well equipped old Balboa Island cottage. Tastefully furnished. The bathroom is downstairs whereas the two bedrooms are upstairs. The location is near the main streets on the Island - Marine Ave and Park Ave. I would prefer to stay again at the quieter end of the Island Near the Ferry.

Stayed Feb 6, 2025Staying at the cottage in Balboa is the best time of the year. Hanging out on the front porch or a quick walk to Main Street feels like I’ve landed in a Dickens novel.

Stayed Sep 3, 2024I stayed there for a week with my family and it was in the perfect location. We were able to walk to downtown shops and restaurants on Balboa Island and we were just a short drive to other great locations in Newport Beach and Huntington Beach. I couldn't have asked for more.

Stayed Dec 31, 1969Another wonderful stay at the cottage! This is my 8th year to spend a month and I look forward to it all year long. The front porch is what attracted me to it in the first place. It’s nice to have friends or family come by and meals outside are wonderful. Being on the corner is another one of my favorites about the cottage as I love talking to everyone who walks by. I felt more at home this time, I cooked, the oven is great, and the BBQ is perfect for when the family comes down. The beds are comfortable upstairs. I have a couple favorite restaurants as well, we especially love Trattoria for Italian food and Wilma's for breakfast. It's just a short 2 block walk to the main street. Also being just a couple short blocks from the bay makes it nice to pour a cup of coffee in a to-go cup and walk down to the bench and talk to everyone as they take their morning walk. It’s just a short walk to the ferry and we always go across to the peninsula for some beautiful pictures and big waves. Balboa Island has always been a special place to visit but having the cottage once a year has made it a real treasure.
