Stayed Sep 13, 2025We found this house to be perfect as my wife and I introduced our adult children and spouses to the Dordogne. Alix was there when we arrived and provided us a tour of this fascinating chateau. In our previous visits to this region, my wife and I have visited houses of this vintage, but none of them contained furnishings and books from generations of the same family. Of course, a house of this age is not going to have all of the conveniences that come with modern accmodations such as some type of supplemental heat in the bathrooms. For us, this was a minor concern far outweighed by the overall charm of the place.Alix was proactive in contacting us to see if we needed anything or had problems, and La Roque Gaceac is an ideal location for visiting the major attractions in the area.

Stayed Aug 24, 2024Absolutely fantastic! Stayed for two weeks with a mix of family/friends and everyone had a truly wonderful time. Booking process very easy and communication before arrival with owners, Alix and Pierre-Augustin, brilliant. They even helped us to book restaurants well in advance (highly recommended as the best ones get fully booked over summer). The chateau is in an outstanding location, with commanding views over the Dordogne and beautiful grounds. Absolutely incredible! Easy stroll down into the La Roque-Gageac village with little shops, restaurants/bars and activities like canoeing. We would highly recommend drinks at Bambousaie bar at the end of the village, set in a grove of bamboo! You can also walk down to a river beach with a small shack/cafe which sells great food and drinks late into the evening. Sarlat is 10 mins away, with its fabulous markets, shops and supermarkets. Loads of other beautiful towns, castles and villages to visit close by. The chateau was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The housekeeper, Juliane, is super helpful and friendly - she even brought us wonderful fresh vegetables from the garden! All the bedrooms are huge, have amazing views and there was no fighting over who got which room. The pool is huge and the main terrace is perfect for lazy evening drinks and dining as you watch the hot air balloons float past! Overall a simply brilliant stay and thoroughly recommended. We are definitely keen to visit again!

Stayed Jun 8, 2024This magical region of France is an experience of a lifetime for families. There are picturesque views at every turn. From the wonderfully charming medieval towns to the visits to numerous castles/chateaux, fortresses and parks. This area is rich with France’s history. There are prehistoric caves and grottoes to tour. And fun activities for children. The Chateau de La Malartrie clearly reveals that it has been lovingly cared for through centuries.Today, Alix and Pierre continue the tradition and work endlessly to restore, renovate and furnish this truly marvelous chateau. The entire grounds are incredibly massive. There is more than enough groomed open spaces for all to enjoy. It was amazing to live in a luxury museum. And the perfect home base for our week of adventures. Our initial communication with property manager Sabine was smooth and informative. And later with owners Alix and Pierre who were very communicative, organized, friendly and responsive the entire time. Thank you for your extensive personal welcome tour. And your delightful refreshments when we arrived. It exceeded our expectations. Beside the lovely pool terrace, there were swings, trampoline, foosball and soccer field for high energy families to enjoy. Thank youJuliane our caretaker and chef (as needed). For your sweet, attentive assistance for anything we might need. We were impressed that the chateau was amazingly CLEAN and fresh. There is more but no space left.Merci beaucoup. Aloha,Felice,Ed & Family.
