After staying at Legacy Trails for a memorable family vacation in 2015, we built Sunset Ridge with the goal of sharing this wonderful place with others. We were searching for an outdoorsy escape that was dog-friendly and within driving distance of Dallas, and the Legacy Trails community was exactly what we were looking for. We hope you treasure your time here as much as we do.
The 1071-square foot cabin is one of five in a private, 35-acre enclave just one mile southwest of Smithville. Sunset Ridge is the newest one at Legacy Trails, having just opened in 2018. With gated access and exclusive use of Legacy Trails Landing on Mountain Fork River (great fly fishing spot!), we think this is the best vacation rental community in the Broken Bow Lake area.
Sunset Ridge can comfortably sleep up to six guests (children welcomed!). The two bedrooms contain queen-size beds, rustic artwork, and ample storage space. After a refreshing day on the water or in the woods, take it easy by flipping through the 150+ DirecTV channels or curling up by the fireplace with a good book.

Sunset Ridge is a great road trip destination, centrally located between 3 and 4 hours from Dallas, Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Shreveport, and Fayetteville.
Both Sunset Ridge and the nearby parks and attractions offer free parking, so driving is our recommended transportation option around here. The area is also home to tasty, family-friendly restaurants and beautiful natural scenery, which we hope you can experience during your stay. Here are our favorite places:
Boondockers Landing - 1-mile drive
McCurtain County Game Reserve - 24-mile drive
Broken Bow Lake - 30-mile drive
Cucumber Creek - 33-mile drive
Beavers Bend State Park - 37-mile drive
Shasta's Burger Box - 4.5-mile drive
When cooking for a group just doesn’t sound desirable after a long hike or kayak adventure, hop in the car and make a beeline for Shasta’s. This nearby burger joint serves patties and sandwiches that will please your whole group, even the kids and those picky eaters. Walk off your decadent meal with a wander through their gift shop, where you can find kitschy trinkets and homemade soaps.
Mountain Country Store - 2-mile drive
More than just a place to shop, Mountain Country Store is the ultimate find for food and sundries in Smithville. Serving daily specials, hearty entrees, and fresh salads, the friendly staff here will make sure your whole group leaves with a smile. You can also find any essentials you may have forgotten to pack here, plus a few things that you want but don’t really need, but, hey, you’re on vacation!
Chopping Block Steakhouse - 27-mile drive
For a taste of luxury during your outdoorsy getaway, make your way to Chopping Block Steakhouse, known for hand-cut steaks and, as they put it, “fall-off-the-bone ribs.” With a menu that features pasta, salads, sandwiches, and even a pound of crab legs, there’s no going hungry here. Set in a cozy cabin, this steakhouse is the ultimate date night, happy hour, or family reunion spot.
Grateful Head Pizza - 30-mile drive
There are two types of people in this world: pizza lovers and people who just haven't had good pizza yet. Grateful Head fires up the best pies in the area, like the Hawaiian-inspired Maui Waui and the Big Frank - a meat lover’s dream. They may also have the most creative pizza names we’ve ever seen. To really get your appetite going, start off with some garlicky, cheese-stuffed breadsticks. Bonus points for their dog-friendly patio.
Rolling Fork Takery - 30-mile drive
What exactly is a “takery,” you ask? In one of the more genius ideas to come to the restaurant industry, Rolling Fork specializes in take-out, but not your average burgers and fries-style take-out. Think homestyle appetizers, fresh salads, gourmet tacos, and hearty sandwiches, all made with high-quality ingredients and perfect for eating in the comfort of your scenic Sunset Ridge backyard. Although, if you prefer to eat there, Rolling Fork does have a lovely (heated!), dog-friendly porch.
Lighthouse Drive-In - 20-mile drive
An experience worth driving across the Arkansas border. For burgers, brisket, fries, and malts with a side of old-school nostalgia, Lighthouse Drive-In is the perfect crowd-pleaser. On a hot summer day, not much tastes better than a scoop of their ice cream or a thick, creamy shake. Bring the whole family or some friends along as an excuse to try both!
Girls Gone Wine - 31-mile drive
For a fun, adults-only escape, make your way to the lively tasting room at Girls Gone Wine in the heart of Hochatown. Featuring wines that are made on-site, the wine offers complimentary samples and a funky gift shop. It’s a great place to celebrate a birthday, anniversary, or just the beginning of a well-deserved vacation.
Hochatown Petting Zoo - 31-mile drive
A sure-fire way to delight kids of all ages (and adults!), Hochatown Petting Zoo is a perfect activity for when you need to mix up the days of fishing, hiking, and watersports. At this roadside attraction, you can feed, pet, and take selfies with the cute baby animals. The petting zoo boasts a collection of critters including miniature horses, raccoons, snakes, lizards, turkeys, and birds.
A to Z Guest Ranch - 11-mile drive
Nestled in the Kiamichi Mountains, A to Z Guest Ranch is your go-to spot for horseback riding and ATV rentals. Slow down and enjoy nature during a guided trail ride, with packages ranging from one hour to a full day, or turn up the excitement with a ride on an ATV. Perfect for kids and adults, this nearby haven in the woods will give you a memorable day of fun with family or friends. We recommend calling or emailing to make a reservation.
Wild Boar Ridge - 2-mile drive
A highlight of the Broken Bow Lake area is hunting, and there’s no better place to do it than Wild Boar Ridge. With a huge collection of wild game (including hogs and rams) and plenty of guidance for first-timers, there’s no wonder this place gets rave reviews. For a memorable activity and some great stories to tell later, Wild Boar’s seasoned guides are happy to show you around their neck of the woods, whether it’s your first hunt or your fiftieth.
Mountain Fork River 10-Mile Drive
Mountain Fork, also known as the Mountain Fork of the Little River, is a 98-mile-long tributary of the Little River in western Arkansas and Southeastern Oklahoma in the United States. Hailed as the best whitewater stream in Oklahoma, the Mountain Fork River offers a year-round destination for the best trout fishing anywhere in the surrounding region. The river’s constant flow and cool waters are the ideal place to find brown and rainbow trout year-round, perfect for fly fishing in a region not commonly known as a fly fishing destination. The river also features plenty of rapids, small waterfalls, and rock gardens perfect for rafting, canoeing and kayaking enthusiasts, whether you seek a leisurely float or a more challenging thrill ride
Check in on Sunday will be after 4 PM instead of 3 PM
This place was perfect. Close enough to Beaver Bend Park to go every day. So much to do there. My husband and kids used the kayaks every day! Phenomenal trip! And this place was so clean!
Need a little getaway? This is perfect in every way! Just a sort drive from town this spot was fantastic. It was so quiet and private. It’s a 5 mins walk to the river. The sunset as beautiful and the all the stars in the night sky next to the fire pit was so tranquil. This is what I needed for sure! Thank you so much. We will be bring our kids back here:)
This cabin exceeded my expectations. The pics are nice but seeing it in person is totally different and soo much better. The location is tucked away and my family and I really enjoyed that! The cabin is equipped with everything you need! Would recommend!
Pleasant and quiet just as expected.
Overall I rate the experience a 4.75 out of 5. The cabin was very cozy, very clean, well organized, and very high value for the price. The bed was very comfortable. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our time there and it was relaxing and very nice to come home and start a fire and make a nice homecooked meal. I was under the impression that the river was in the backyard of the cabin based on the pictures, but this location was actually a 0.25-0.5 mile walk to the water, and it seemed too deep at the entry point to wade fish. Still, it is an easy drive to Beaver's Bend and we were able to enjoy fishing for trout in the park. We enjoyed the mowed down hiking trail one evening which was a great touch. There were no directions on starting the indoor fireplace, but I managed to figure it out, but if it is left on too long, it can overheat the direct tv satellite box based on where it is set, so bewhere. The internet was slow, and we didn't attempt to stream a movie, but you could check emails and facetime with family no problem. Also, we did think it was weird how well you could hear cars going up and down the high way when outside, but you couldn't really see the road. It isn't that busy of a road though so it was of little concern.
This cabin is 30 minutes north of all the hustle and bustle. Quiet and secluded... We forgot about what was going on in the world as we connected as a family. Highly recommend!!
The cabin is great and looks exactly like the pictures, with a very new looking and nice finish out. Everything was very clean, and the cabin was stocked with everything we needed (pots and pans for cooking, a toaster and microwave) and some things we forgot (playing cards, board games, flashlights and a lighter for lighting a campfire). Communication with the owner was easy and the property manager, Darin, could not have been more helpful. The Dollar General is stocked with all of the groceries that anyone would need on a trip, and the General Store was a great place for lunch. The only thing that we did not bring that we will bring on our next stay was a duraflame log to get the campfire started a little easier. We will bring that next time and are already looking forward to our return trip. If you are looking for a cabin in Broken Bow, this is the place!
It was simply perfect for what we were looking for. I feel the cabin looks better than in the pictures. We are a very outdoorsy family. We kayaked and hiked and fished and relaxed. When you enter the water with the kayaks there are rapids immediately to the left and to the right, so be ready to paddle. This was difficult for my 9-year-old girl. We did end up pulling her. Otherwise, we really enjoyed everything and are extremely blessed and thankful to have stayed.
Clean and comfortable. Nice to have a full kitchen and laundry! Internet a little slow but good enough. Favorite activity was just sitting in the rockers on the covered back patio with some wine and enjoying the privacy!
This is a great spot and very private. Beautiful property.
Highly recommend for anyone looking for peace and quiet. My wife and I stayed for the week and loved every minute. We made trips to Queen Wilhelmina State Park and Beavers Bend State Park. The hiking and views were great at both. We also enjoyed using the kayaks on the river. After a long day the fire pit was a warm welcome and relaxing while star gazing. The kitchen was loaded with everything we needed. If you don’t want to cook the Mountain Country Store has great home cooked meals. The only down side To the location was very slow internet, but who cares about that.
Property as Described in profile. Was very relaxing stay.
We loved everything about this cabin. I would definitely come back.
My wife and I traveled to this cabin, north of Broken Bow, with our two young sons. They loved the outdoor activities (hikes, kayaking, fishing) and finding all of the new bugs and animals that Oklahoma had to offer. The cabin itself was clean and ideal for what we needed. There was no formal kitchen table, though the bar top counter served the purpose. We have small kids so our meals were enjoyed at the table on the deck which looked out on a wooded area and mountains in the distance. Our boys enjoyed running around the property and exploring the wooded areas around us. The river and kayaks, which we frequented, were about a half mile from the cabin which was slightly further than expected but an excellent way to burn off energy and work up an appetite! We would recommend this location to people looking to kick back and relax. The mornings are quiet and peaceful and the porch begs for a cup of coffee and a good book.
This property was well maintained and ascetically pleasing. We were to enjoy the outdoors and relax.
Nicely maintained, attractive and comfortable. Well supplied with kitchen necessities, easy to find. Nice if you want to be away from it all. Did not need to contact anyone as directions and entry were very simple.
Fabulous property close to Broken Bow, so quiet and peaceful. New property was the perfect size for our family of 4. Owner a d property manager were fantastic. We really enjoyed the cabin and the peace and quiet. Just 20 minutes to the activities and crowds in Broken Bow. Definitely recommended.
Wonderful cabin perfectly situated in the woods! The cabin was the perfect size for our family of 5. The kitchen had everything we needed. The patio was perfect to watch the mesmerizing sunsets. We hope to be back soon!
Just the right size and the Manager was quick to respond to any questions. We loved the back porch and fire pit. Likely to return.
We absolutely loved this cabin and the area! It was perfect for our family! We brought our kids - ages 9 and 7. They loved swimming in the river and fishing! We especially enjoyed using the kayaks provided and the easy access to the river! We also visited Broken Bow Lake and Beavers Bend while we were there and grabbed lunch in Hochatown! So many things to do! I would highly recommend this cabin. Darin was super friendly and was always out and about checking on things! It’s nice to see people take pride in their work. The cabin was beautiful and spotless! Thanks again for letting us stay at your property. We will be back!
Great property to enjoy for a nice weekend.
The cabin was very nice and Super clean! My husband and I came for a short break from our kids and work. We had a very relaxing stay. We spent a lot of time outside at the fire pit enjoying the view.
Nice location with some walking trails, river access. Cabin is adequately sized for 2 or more people with open living & kitchen area. I would have preferred a king sized bed, however. Great communication with the owner! Thanks for a restful vacation.
Beautiful cabin in the Oklahoma Ouachita Mountains! We loved how quiet and peaceful it was. The cabin is new and fully stocked. We will be back to Sunset Ridge in Legacy Hills!
This was a surprise get-away for my family. The cabin was gorgeous & a perfect location for us. It was secluded and away from the busy life, which is what we wanted. We drove each day for our daily fun...fly fishing, casino, petting zoo & restaurants. It’s 30 minutes away from everything but we knew that going in so we were fine with that. We met Darren with the Legacy Trails staff and he was awesome! We loved everything about this place & we are already planning our next trip!!! Loved it!!!!
We spent Thanksgiving weekend in this lovely cabin. The pictures are exactly how the interior looks. It was spotless, was fully stocked, and the beds were very comfortable. We used the fire pit one night, and they provided a large supply of fire wood. We hope to return in the Spring to go fly fishing in the river.
We needed to take a short vacation with family and this was a perfect cabin for our stay. Not in the heart of everything but close enough. Lots of fun things to do and see.
I was super impressed with the cabin, so clean and so many amenities provided including extra bath towels, coffee and filters, shampoo and conditioner and even games to play. Such a nice little cabin and the beds were outstanding! I have already recommended this cabin to a friend. The best thing was the river that you could walk or drive down to, it is absolutely gorgeous and the kayaking was outstanding and best part of the trip! It is a long 3o minute drive to Beavers Bend so you pretty much go for the day but it's a pretty drive and worth it. Absolutely exceeded our expectations.
The cabin was nice and clean. Having stacked firewood was great.
I highly recommend Sunset Ridge. It was a great getaway. .
This is a very clean nice cabin.
This cabin was perfect for us to relax and enjoy our time away together!! The cabin is cozy, clean, has a beautiful view, and all the comforts of home!! We will be back!!!
We really enjoyed our stay and owners are super friendly! Cabin is exactly as it looks on the pics if not even better. Short walking distance from the river so it is safe for kids.. We will definitely go back later this summer.
The whole weekend spent in Smithville was wonderful, so relaxing and enjoyable. The cabin felt like home and was very well kept. The only thing that was a bit of a problem was that in the Guide Book it listed the Boondocks landing as a great place for different activities, but when we drove over, it was closed off by a gate and was personal property so we couldn’t actually do anything here. But the whole trip was great and we loved the cabins!
We had a nice relaxing time. The cabin was fully stocked with everything we could possibly need and there weren’t a ton of annoying rules and instructions like a lot of rentals have. Cozy, comfortable beds and a beautiful property to explore! Thanks!!
Enjoyed the wooded area and the cozy feel of this recently built cabin. It seems it could accommodate handicapped individuals confined to wheelchair as it has wide door openings and lower light switch plates. Nice consideration.
Loved the cabin!
My husband and I celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary with some much needed R&R at Sunset Ridge. The cabin is perfect and the property was beautiful!
I loved it! So cozy!
We loved our stay at Sunset Ridge despite the cold, rainy weather! The cabin was super clean and had all the amenities we needed; from the kitchen gadgets to the fuzzy blankets and the cozy fireplace, to the rocking chairs on the back porch and access to tons of movies (for when our outdoor plans fell through!), we found everything we needed to make our stay enjoyable. The cabin is located close to the main road but secluded enough that we felt as though we were deep in the woods, without neighbors, which was exactly what we were looking for in a location. The firepit was a bonus and we loved sitting out under the stars (before all the rain!) making smores! Restaurants and Shopping were about a 30 minute drive away, so we were super grateful for the Dollar General just down the road that came in handy for forgotten items. Cozy Perfection indeed! Thank you for hosting us, Brad; we look forward to visiting again!
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sunset Ridge cabin. The place was very well equipped to cook in and relax inside or out. The owners sent a copy of all the cabin amenities, TV and WiFi information, shopping and restaurant options nearby, and a list of recreational activities before we arrived. This was really helpful in planning our itinerary. The cabin was quite new and and beds were very comfortable. The pull-out sofa bed was a plus! We enjoyed the outdoor fire pit and rocking chairs. With the wooded surroundings, a few deer greeted us early one morning!
The cabin is in beautiful setting and has all the comforts of home.
The cabin was beautiful, well equipped and met all our expectations. The only downfall was the access to the river. We are a fishing group and the only way to get to the good fishing spots were via kayak. Since none of us had ever kayaked before it was quite a challenge. I would recommend bringing a golf cart or rv to get down to the river access as the parking lot is quite small. If you are going for hanging out around the camp fire and just enjoying the stars then yes this is a great cabin!!
My husband and I stayed the weekend with our 3 children at Sunset Ridge. They range in ages from 10 to 4 years old. We had a great time at the cabin and the kids keep asking when we are going back. They do provide kayaks, but we did not use them. We did enjoy the fire pit outside and the back deck area. They provided pretty much everything we needed to cook a full meal, so we used the kitchen frequently. There is a Dollar General just down the road to easily grab things you may have forgotten! I love how secluded this place is, you can easily drive down to Hochatown for dinner or a little bit further down into Beavers Bend Park. We went there to play and swim in water and fly fish. We loved it so much here, that we decided to stay an extra night and ended up booking another cabin on site. It was just as wonderful as this one! Thank you to Brad, Darin & Anne for making sure we were well taken care of during our stay. We couldn't have asked for better hosts!
We had a wonderful time staying at Sunset Ridge, and definitely will return!
Great cabin beautiful area perfect to get away from everything
Me and my husband booked this stay in hopes of having a peaceful, relaxing getaway and it was exactly that! The cabin is absolutely beautiful and in a secluded area not too far from town. “Shuck Me” restaurant is a MUST- the food is incredible! The complimentary kayaking was one of our favorite things to do and there were lots of activities a short driving distance away. We had an unfortunate power outage due to inclement weather, but it didn’t last very long and we were so excited to be able to stay somewhere pet friendly so we could bring our puppy on his first trip! Brad is a great host and was very helpful throughout our entire stay. We highly recommend staying at Sunset Ridge! It is the perfect getaway!
We had a great time here...very nice new cabin! We kayaked and fished down the road, and also hiked in Beavers Bend park...it was June 20, so we we're out until 10 pm! Groceries are not close, so stock up before you arrive. Our kids want to come back next summer!🐟
We loved the house. It was so clean and everything we needed was provided. We will definitely stay again hopefully.
Sunset Ridge is the perfect place for a long-weekend getaway or retreat. It is close enough to enjoy all of the activities that the area provides, yet secluded enough for those who do not want to be disturbed. The layout and décor of the cabin are tasteful and appealing to both men or women. It's furnished with everything you could possibly need. A river runs through the property and kayaks are available for your use. To have a good time, all you have to do is show up.
First Annual Mom’s Trip was a success! We had an amazing time at Sunset Ridge making memories we will never forget! The talks around the campfire, making s’mores and playing board games on the deck surrounded by beautiful Mother Nature were just what we needed! Thank you for taking care of the small things so we could relax and thoroughly enjoy our time here. This is exactly what these tired mommas needed to recharge.
