COVID-19 May 20, 2020 Update: The CDC has changed its COVID-19 guidelines in the past few days to make it clear that the virus spreads mainly through person-to-person contact and “does not spread easily” on contaminated surfaces like previously thought.
This luxury vacation rental Cabin in Smithville, Oklahoma, just north of Broken Bow Lake became available in November of 2016. Hilltop Getaway is situated on the highest point in Legacy Trails Cabins and has "above the tree line" panoramic views of the Kiamichi mountains in all directions. Legacy Trails Cabins, a 30-acre cabin community, provides private access to the Upper Mountain Fork river that feeds Broken Bow and is a short 3.5 hour drive from the DFW area. This 1300 sq. ft. cabin, with covered porches and an oversized back deck with a 3-burner Weber gas grill, has 3 bedrooms and 2 baths. It has a full kitchen with a Keurig K-Duo coffee maker that works with ground coffee or K-cup pods and a utility room with washer and dryer. It comfortably sleeps 8 people and has queen sized beds in two rooms and two sets of bunk beds in the other.
Legacy Trails Cabins provides 10 kayaks, a canoe, life jackets and paddles for your use at no additional charge. Our Hilltop Getaway Cabin is about a 3 minute drive or 5 minute walk to where we keep the kayaks.
This cabin offers a cozy fireplace and an oversized outdoor fire pit area with 2 love seat rocking chairs and 2 Adirondack chairs, which make for a great place to roast marshmallows, make S'mores or just relax. Plus, we provide the firewood at no cost, so one less thing to worry about!
You can also check out Legacy Trails Cabins by staying at our other cabin, Hillside Hideaway (VRBO Listing #662225). Hillside Hideaway is a 2 bedroom, 1 bath cabin that sleeps 6 people and is more cozy and romantic, plus is less expensive, of course.
Damage Policy: If cabin is damaged during your stay, we reserve the right to charge you to replace/repair damaged items with a $100 min. damage fee.
We rented this gem out for 5 days, took the grandparents and kids with us. It was just what we needed for a nice, quiet getaway. The views were amazing! We did some fishing/kayaking but if you have older people with you I suggest driving, the walk down the hill isn't so bad but coming back up is rough on those knees. We did have to spend 1 day inside due to weather, the recliners weren't the most comfortable to spend time on. Thank goodness it was just for a day. The place was spotless. Darin was nice enough to come by and leave extra wood for us and take our trash. He was super nice. I would recommend taking extra wood if you plan on making a fire everynight. The deck was spacious enough where we set up games for the kids and have dinner outside. Overall we had an amazing stay.
I stayed at the cabin from 01/22/21 through 01/24/21. It was a wonderful cabin to get away from all the noise. It is tucked away nicely and stores are only down the street. Pros: Lots of outdoor space Plenty of beds Firepit Clean linen Clean cabin Quiet and tucked away River is near by Cons: -Unpleasant smell near the fireplace -Nothing luxury about the cabin but still cute -Not enough wood provided like the rest of the owners down the street that i witnessed who had wood stacked up 4 feet high (we had to purchase wood down the street twice) -I called the owner and he said they usually only provide about 25 logs so that should have been enough? (It wasn't) Us adults spent most of the time outdoors as well as our kids playing on the spacious property and it was cold day and night-so hearing that was a bit uncomfortable. His wife did end up bringing more wood--thanks. -I already knew this cabin did not have a hot tub but a hot tub would be nice. -We thought we would be able to use the Kayaks but they were locked. Maybe let guests know those are not available during a specific time of the year This is based on our overall experience. Overall, it is a great cabin and well taken care of. I still rate the cabin as a 5 star cabin because of its' location and cleanness.
Amazing location. Cabin was as advertised. Can’t wait to go back.
It was a really nice experience at a great location. The only negative thing was a slightly bothering smell when we first entered the cabin. It quickly went away or maybe we got used to it. We spent so much time around the fire pit. Perfect privacy and beautiful scenery.
We had a great time. It was clean, inviting and in a great location. We are looking forward to coming back soon.
We stayed just after Christmas for a lovely 5-days. The owners were very gracious in answering our questions and payment was easy and efficient. The property managers were easily reachable by phone and text and welcomed us on our first afternoon. The cabin was as described in every way: everything provided, comfortable and modern. We enjoyed the gas log fireplace, outdoor fire pit, al-fresco dining via the table and chairs on the expansive deck. We even made use of the available kayak stable by the riverfront. 3-generations of our family found something enjoyable and memorable on our stay!
Cabin is beautiful as described. They have everything you will need besides your food and clothes!! Lost power first night do to wind, but Darrin answered and was already working on it! Overall a great experience and we look forward to coming back!!
My family spent 3 nights here prior to Christmas, and we are so glad we chose this cabin. I am a clean freak, and this cabin was spotless. The amenities were perfect and we wanted for nothing . The huge back porch was my favorite spot, I sat for hours simply relaxing and taking in the view, day and night. When it got too cold, the fireplace inside was a perfect night cap. The manager (Darin I believe) also came by to bring more firewood and was very friendly. For anyone on the fence about staying here, just do it... and I guarantee you'll be glad you did! If there were more than 5 stars to give, I would give them all.
Renting was easy and hassle free. The cabin was in a beautiful location on a hill top and the cabin itself was so cozy and welcoming. We had a peaceful, relaxing weekend with just us and nature and we intend to visit again.,
The cabin is beautiful along with the views on the hilltop! It has a nice grill and fire pit! Will definitely recommend and would love to come back. We took a quick road trip to talimena scenic drive and this time of year is beautiful!
Secluded, elevated cabin with everything you need. Large deck and patios, firepit is great, plenty of chairs. Trail in the back to the ri er and back is enjoyable to walk and a decent workout. Saw lots of deers near the river, neighborhood is secluded and the cabin is very comfortable and a great choice.
We enjoyed the stay and liked the location.
We couldn’t have asked for a more peaceful spot! The house was spotless, and pictures just don’t do the property justice! Wifi pretty spotty as advertised, but actually loved that it kept us in the moment :) Appreciated the fire wood, I think the fire pit time was our favorite!
Would have preferred that the grass had been cut due to chiggers and an ant hill on front sidewalk.
We had the best time at the cabin and would definitely rent it again. We loved being secluded on the hilltop and using the kayaks on the river. The drive to Hochatown to visit Beaver's Bend was a little longer than anticipated, but the scenery was gorgeous. We can't wait to go back.
My husband and children had a marvelous time. The cabin is beautiful and very roomy. We especially enjoyed walking to the river and kayaking. We plan to come back.
Clean property, owners accessible, great location!
We loved our stay. Very clean cabin. Comfy beds. The deck and fire pit was nice. The river was a short walk or you could drive—we drove to take all our fishing gear and floats and ice chest. The kayaks were great. Wry close to Bevears end. We will be back.
The view was amazing. It was the perfect place to get away. We loved everything about it. Thank you.
Hilltop Getaway was everything it was advertised to be and more. Our family really appreciated the quiet, private, and clean cabin. Everything we need was provided. My boys loved the easy access to the river. We too advantage of everything offered by the great getaway. Thank you. We will be back for sure.
We really needed a quick vacation out of the city. What an amazing, relaxing and enjoyable time! The cabin was super clean, and stocked with movies and games for cabin time. Firewood for the firepit. The river is a nice hike down hill. I recommend driving down to kayak. We had so much fun the kids are ready to book a return trip! Thank you so much for all the little details in the cabin and at the property that made for such a great getaway!
We spent the most wonderful five days with our deareat friends. We didn't catch a thing fishing but we laughed and spent some wonderful moments surrounded by such beautiful settings. The cabin was even more beautiful than the pictures and the view amazing. It felt so homey and had everything we needed. We will definitely be back. Thanks for a vacation full of memories!
Our original plan was to celebrate my birthday but with Covid-19, we were afraid to go but went anyway. Paul kept us up to date with local information about Covid-19. He was great with answering all questions and quick in responding. It was the perfect getaway. It really made my birthday special. The property is on a beautiful Hilltop with a magical view. Our children absolutely loved it. Short walk to the river which is also beautiful. We will definitely be returning and making it a yearly trip with the family.
We loved our stay! It was quiet and picturesque. The house was very clean and well maintained. We had everything we would need to prepare meals and enjoy quiet evenings either inside or outside. We left feeling refreshed and relaxed!
My wife and I had a fantastic time at the Hilltop Getaway cabin. The pictures do not do this cabin justice! Incredible views, lots of wildlife and plenty of places to explore. Great place and highly recommend!
Great getaway in a nice location , perfect views and a great staff. Hiking, horseback riding and fishing we’re beyond expectation. We will come back again!!
Views from this place are amazing. Enjoyed the sunsets and the stars. Cabin is nicer than the pictures.
Loved our stay! Beautiful setting and plenty of amenities.
It was everything we hoped it would be. Only thing missing was a whisk and a spatula. We will definitely go back.
Very cute cabin with beautiful views!
Great cabin in a great location and will definitely be back for sure. Had a great time with the kids.
property was very clean, with all the essentials are in the place. There was wood for the camp fire. Very scenic place, and within a half a mile away you can go for the kayaking, Only issue we faced was very slow internet, and no sound from the tv, had to spend some time to trouble shoot the issue and fix it..
even though there was an area wide black-out the night we arrived, the manager made sure that we were informed of the problem, asked if there was anything they could do to make it more comfortable, and made sure our stay was very enjoyable. As this was a small family reunion, just being together was very important. The cabin was very comfortable and well stocked for cooking and entertaining. I will be recommending this site to others
The view was spectacular good vibes for my girlfriends and I. Will come again.
This place was very clean, and quiet! We really enjoyed our time here! WiFi was very spotty, but we didn’t mind. Comfortable home away from home!
Peaceful and quiet getaway. The cabin exceeded my expectations!
We were genuinely impressed with the cleanliness and decor of the cabin. The grill came in handy for evenings and there were movies available to watch during the rain storm. Overall we would recommend this cabin to anyone who wants all the comforts of home with the addition of river access and beautiful mountain views.
This was the nicest cabin by far we have stayed in. Somewhat remote so had lots of privacy. The family enjoyed kyacking the river. We had wood for Smores and enjoyed our, weekend very much. Just choose a rainy weekend
We had a great stay at the Hilltop Getaway. Amazing view, quite , and had everything we needed. The cabin was spacious, clean, and ready for us and it was amazing. Thank you and we will be booking again with you!
Nice and clean hope there was not much to clean up after we left. Everything was fine. There was a controlled burn on Friday the air was terrible not any thing you could do about. It would be nice to have a normal TV so we wouldn't have to call the fire department for the info. The wife was expecting to be right next the water and we not.
Really enjoyed staying here. Would do it again. Would also highly recommend to friends and family.
This was a great place to spend our New Year's Eve holiday! Was really nice to enjoy the outdoors, sitting by the fire pit, grilling, etc. I would highly recommend this place!
The cabin was very nice with a few small small issues. The love seat is falling apart and doesnt work properly. There is no storage in the bedrooms for clothes. The cabin is about 1/2 walk or drive to the river. The fire place smells like propane when turned on. But my real issue is the owner billed me incorrectly. I was sent an additional $50 charge for a pet charge. I was not sent the bill till after our stay and then was sent the request 3 times in less than 15hrs. Proper billing is essential and getting 3 requests in less than 15hrs was very frustrating. I pay my Bill's I do not need to badgered to pay them. Like I tell all my employees your lack of planning doesnt constute and emergency on my part. We had a great Christmas at the cabin but will not be back because of the owners billing and I felt harassed about there $50 mistake.
My daughter, son-in-law, their 2 kids (ages 14 and 10) and I spent our Thanksgiving holiday at the cabin. The cabin is very pretty, has nice appliances and was very clean. We had 2 days of beautiful weather and enjoyed the large deck, fire pit area and the hike down to the river. It was a bit too cold to try out the kayaks but would enjoy them in warm weather. Only thing we missed was a satellite dish to see the Cowboy game but we were aware of that prior to booking. Wifi is painfully slow and that was frustrating. I am sure that is not an issue during warmer weather but we had a day of rain and cold temps. Overall, we had a great experience and recommend this cabin to others.
We enjoyed our stay at Hilltop getaway. It was nice, clean and had everything you could think of. All we had to bring was our food. The view from the deck is amazing. It was a short walk to the river, which we really enjoyed. The stairs on the shore gave easy access to the river. We spent lots of time by the fire pit. They even provided all the wood. We will be back!
This was a great spot for our family of 6. We really enjoyed the cabin itself. Super clean and inviting. The hilltop view was our favorite. The hiking, the kayaking the campfire. We loved it and Paul Granier is amazing. He was prompt with answering questions and so friendly. Thanks for a great weekend getaway!
Great cabin! All wood interior, tile floors, great Mountian view, located a few hundred feet from the river and is secluded from others. It’s about a 35 minute drive to the nearest fly fishing shop and a great swim beach on Broken Bow lake.
We enjoyed the scenery and cabin. The grill was nice and we grilled out quite a bit and had a bonfire and made s'mores. I wish that they had satellite tv so we could watch the weather because it was bad at times. Beware of the bears though, my brother-in-law saw one. The walk to the river was long and not on the immediate property as lead to believe. The locals were nice. We went to Country cafe, Girls gone wine, and got fudge at a local candy shop.
We had a wonderful family vacation at Hilltop Getaway. The cabin and property is absolutely beautiful. We are already making plans to go back again. We had 4 teenagers with us and they loved kayaking and fishing on the river and would have spent the entire day there if they could have. We prepared some great meals on the grill and in the kitchen which had all the essentials we needed and spent our nights watching a movie from the great selection of videos. The beds were the best. We all slept great. Thank you for helping us make wonderful memories.
We loved the cabin and the settings, the g-kids loved exploring the trails, cabin was very well stocked, and clean. It is a very nice setting especially the back deck and the view. I would suggest adding a fly swatter to the room as we seemed to have found some flies. I do wish the trail directly behind the cabin had been mowed or weed-eaten as the grass was pretty tall that they had to go through to get to the trail. The Kayak situation was great to have, but getting them into the river and back out of the river was a real chore, especially dragging them back up the hill, and since there was only my wife and I, it was almost too much trouble to go back, but the g-kids loved it, just need a better way to get them back up the hill. We wold certainly come back. wt
Hilltop Hideaway was just what we wanted. We loved our stay. The property is absolutely beautiful. Upon arrival, the cabin looked identical to the pictures inside and out. They had music playing and the AC on which is a must in 90 degree heat. Things we liked about the cabin: Fully-stocked cabin (crock pot, blender, mixer, beach towels, games-literally seemed to think of almost everything) New washer/dryer (no one wants to do laundry on vacation but with little kids and lakes, it's necessary). Also provided laundry soap and dryer sheets (we brought our own but they didn't have to provide it) Comfortable beds Beautiful fixtures and decorations Nice quality linens and lots of them Propane grill Outside seating Wood for the fire pit Access to kayaks/canoe Helpful property managers (PM) when needed Wildlife all around Some items that would improve the stay: Ceiling fans on back porch because it got hot and muggy in the late afternoon/evening Shelves in bedroom closets to place clothing (nice for those staying a week or more) A nasty storm knocked out power for 11 hrs (not their fault but...) the power would also flicker or momentarily go out from time to time so it would be nice (and a huge PLUS) to have a wired backup generator. Yes, I know expensive but it would be piece of mind since the area is so remote. If that is not an option, a portable generator that the PM could provide in the event of an outage would be nice. The cabin a small yard but clearing out some of the tall weeds a bit further down the hill would enhance the landscape and also provide more room for kids to play and have yard games out. I read in a review that the river access was difficult. Owner did indeed put in nice stairs with handrail leading down. My only suggestion would be to add stairs going all the way up. Doesn't have to be cement as I'm sure you don't want to take away from the view but maybe put in RR ties dug into the hill to make it a lot easier. The aftermath of storms made it difficult to go up and down with little ones. I will add that the river is a steep 5 min walk down the hill from Hilltop Hideaway so if you are planning to hang out at the river all day, you may want to take your vehicle. The river has little to no bank so not ideal for hanging out but a nice fishing spot. Bonus, they have adorable otters swimming around as well. Overall, we absolutely loved it and want to come back during the fall/winter.
Both property managers(Laura and Darin) were very friendly and helpful. They had the air conditioner on so we had a cool cabin upon arrival. The cabin had plenty of pots and pans and eating utensils. The view was excellent and we especially enjoyed the fire pit. This is well out into the country and major chain grocery stores are non-existent so take most of your supplies with you. We enjoyed the peace and quiet of the grounds. All in all--very enjoyable time.
Highly recommend staying at this cabin. We loved the view; fire pit at night; two full bathrooms and well stocked kitchen. The walk to the river is a bit farther than we assumed and requires sturdy shoes due to the rocky hill, but loved having access to the kayaks! Need a strong man to help get them back up the stairs though.... A few suggestions for the owner The closets could use shelves and a luggage rack. Not so user friendly to keep every thing on the closet floor. Would be helpful to have instructions to the 2 tv remotes
We really enjoyed our stay at the cabin. It was perfect for our family. Will definitely visit again.
We are a busy little family of four so this little weekend trip was just perfect for us to get away from reality! We were able to allow our 14 and 16 year olds to roam the property and go hiking! They loved the freedom and we love the cozy cabin and all of the amenities! The views were amazing and it was just what we needed!!!
Comfortable cabin, everything we needed was there. We will be going back
The cabin was great for us and our friends, my sister (visiting from abroad) and all 4 kids plus dog to just relax. Very spacious and comfy rooms. We loved the different walks and went down to the river to fish a bit. Highly recommended.
We had the best weekend! The cabin was absolutely perfect for our family. It was my husband & I and two of our four boys with their families -- Six adults and two kids --- and the cabin was a perfect fit! (We did laugh at the couple sharing the bunk beds with the kids, but we brought a blow up mattress with us and they decided it wasn't necessary!) We enjoyed coffee outside on the deck (the balcony as my granddaughters liked to call it), visiting with our immediate and extended family, walking along the trails, collecting sticks, pinecones and rocks, sitting around the fire. The location was quiet and private. The views are beautiful. The cabin was well stocked with movies to entertain us when we were inside and it had everything we needed. The cabin was spacious and cozy at the same time. We will be back again!
This cabin was just what we needed for our family gathering. The location was convienient for all our group. The home was beautiful and the outdoor space was fantastic. Beautiful sunrise, sunsets were enjoyed. The kitchen was great and very easy to make delicious meals. Only item we missed was a hairdryer. Thanks for an awesome stay. We will be coming back for sure!
We really enjoyed our mini-vacation! The cabin was very nice and modern. Very tastefully decorated and stocked with nice kitchenware. The free use of the kayaks was nice, but access to the river was a little steep and difficult. Cabin was nicely stocked, but no soap/shampoo. I cant complain, We had a wonderful laid back time. We will be back soon!
We had a great time!
The cabin is a little out of the way if you are trying to do activities in Broken Bow but the property is worth it for the views. It sits on a hilltop with a great view of the surrounding mountains. The layout and amenities were great, we had four adults and two children and we all had plenty of room. The only negatives are that the kitchen was a little lacking in supplies (for example, it didn't have filters for the coffee maker) and the $65 cleaning charge on top of the $250 a night charge was a bit much.
Lots of fun adventures for our boys. Hiking, exploring, kayaking, fishing and just playing around the river. We also spent a day at the lake. Great location, and the cabin has amazing views of the sunset. It was very clean and our kids loved the bunk room. We would love to come back in the fall!
We have stayed in multiple cabins in Broken Bow and the Hilltop Getaway is exactly what this cabin is. You are removed from the Hussel and bussel of Broken Bow on an amazing hill with the most breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. The cabin was just what we needed for a relaxing getaway. The owner, Paul, was just a phone call away with any questions. The cabin is perfectly built and beautifully decorated! We will be going back to this cabin for sure!!!!!!
This property was amazing! We are already planning another visit. The views of the mountains from the deck was worth every penny paid alone. It was magical! The river access was awesome as well! We plan on going back soon and bringing our family.
We have been going to Legacy Trails twice a year for the last several years and really love it. Very peaceful, lots of space between cabins (3+ acres per cabin) and a great getaway! We go every Spring and Fall. PC and Carolyn Granier
Location description is slightly deceiving - not in Broken Bow. Actually 45 miles to the north in Smithville. My guys are fishermen and was not as close to the river as we had hoped but they had a great time anyway. This cabin was so beautiful! Nice floor plan and decorated to perfection. We had a wonderful, relaxing time.
The cabin was wonderful! We had a great time, the kids had a great time kayaking.
Our family wanted a quiet getaway after the hustle and bustle of the holidays and we found it at The Hilltop Cabin. The cabin was quiet and the view breathtaking. We enjoyed walks to the river and shopping in the nearby towns. We were very comfortable ( the cabin had everything we needed) and enjoyed making wonderful memories here. We hope to visit again!
