Cozy cottage on the banks of the Main Stream of the AuSable River 3 miles from the bright lights and shopping district of Grayling MI. The main cabin as 2 bedrooms and sleeps 5. Two full bathrooms and updated stainless steel appliances in the kitchen. From the lounge you overlook the river 40 feet away. The option to include additional accommodation up to another 7 guests is available in the bunk houses plus the exclusive use of the sauna. Besides the deck in front of the cabin there are 2 docks on the river with easy access to the famous blue ribbon trout stream and family friendly canoeing down stream to the many boat launches.
Permission to use the main bunkhouse must be asked before you can use it.
very well maintained property with a great view of the river every morning. John was quick with response time and communication was great. would stay again
Was the perfect spot to work remote for a week
Great place for a retreat from the city, will be coming back for sure.
Great little cabin, had everything we needed. Great view and right in the river! Very relaxing! Lots of room! Warm and cozy! John was very helpful! Thank you!
My husband and I were looking for a traditional cottage on the AuSable River and we found what we were looking for in this property. The cabin is right on the water and has a beautiful view of the river from the large picture window that faces it. I enjoy photography and was able to catch on film many different types of water birds on the river. Inside, the cabin had a larger, very workable kitchen. We never went out for meals and cooked everything there. A gas fireplace in the living room made for cozy sitting in the evening and took the chill out of the air first thing in the morning. There were two bathrooms with fantastic water pressure that we appreciated. We just needed one bedroom and slept well on a king sized bed. The property is large, other homes are not real close, so there is a good degree of privacy. We spent our days fly fishing at our favorite spot on the AuSable River and hiking the trails in Hartwick Pines, both are just a couple of miles away. We even took a day trip over the bridge, only a little over an hour away. Would we recommend this property or stay again? Yes! Communication with John, our host, was always quick and helpful and we enjoyed meeting him at the beginning of our stay. He was available if we needed him, but did not intrude on our privacy, something we deeply appreciated. We were able to relax and recharge.
Wonderful view of the ausable river. Needs a deep clean and new pots and pans and doesn't have a sauna.
The cabin is cozy and in a great location. Very relaxing! The host was very friendly and informative of the area.
We really enjoyed quite, serene setting. Very relaxing and enjoyable. Great location: many places to visit and enjoy in a close proximity. John was very personable and accommodating. Pleasure to deal with.
Perfect location for vacation! Cabin is clean and has all amenities. River is beautiful with a lot of wildlife, fishing was good too! Close to canoe rentals with many options for length of trip. Close to bike trails at Hartwick Pines State Park. Excellent host; very friendly and helpful the entire stay. Thank you, John! We will return!!
Great location, friendly helpful folks!
My husband and I enjoyed our stay. Weather was nice-warm days, cool nights. Very clean place with the river just outside the front door. We will be back!
I wanted a place on the Au Sable for three or four nights. We rented in early August and had great weather. My kids and I waded and swam in the river. We kayaked one day with the Penrod livery (highly recommended). All in all, a nice, clean cabin with everything a family would need. John was a very hospitable host.
Very clean. Cozy. Well set up. Had a great time with 3 generations. Lots to do around town. Dont forget to bring consumable things like dish soap and hand soap.
This home is at a perfect location. The home is right on the river and all amenities in Grayling is only 5 miles away. Beautiful views from the living room and the back yard. The water is shallow enough to wade in. My lab loved it! The home had everything we needed. The owners we availabile for any questions or assistance needed. We will be returning!
This is the perfect “up north” cabin, and to get up every morning and see the river flow by was heaven. Wished we would have booked for longer then four days, but we’ll be back soon
Being on the river and seeing it out the windows was great. Didn’t use the sauna but it was available. It was great to have 2 bathrooms. Overall it was a great time.
Really enjoyed this place. Lots of beds for a big group. Clean and well appointed. Close to town and also close to the river(s) we were there to fish. Loved that it had a garage to store stuff overnight. Definitely would stay there again.
So easy, John was great and communicated very well with me throughout the renting exoerience.
Great fishing camp week. Everyone enjoyed the coziness of the cottage! The view from the porch was priceless. The proximity to fish the Au Sable and other local rivers was priceless.
It should be noted that the bunk house is on a different piece of property about 70 yards away
my family, friends and I would like to give a BIG THANKS to John and his wife for our stay this labor day weekend .. very beautiful relaxing property on the Ausable River .. John was very accommodating.. we were able to get a little riding in on the quads from the property which was nice.. I wish our stay could have been longer ,looking forward to spending some more time there in the near future... I recommend this property to any one looking for a relaxing getaway ,and very convenient to town which is a plus for anything you may need.. Thanks again, sincerely Julie,John,Mary family and friends..
great time even with almost daily rain. clean, roomy and well equipped cottage smack dab on the river! thanks Barb and John. oh the sauna was pretty special too!
We loved this house. It’s right on the river and only a couple miles from the town. It’s very relaxing sitting outside. The bunkhouse is also a great little place. Would stay here again.
Our family enjoyed our stay. We had a total of 6 people and 2 dogs and the main cabin had plenty of space for us. We spent most days and nights outside relaxing by the river or watching the kids play in the river. Nice outdoor sitting areas. We had no issues or concerns during our stay. The town of grayling was fun as well.
Absolutely had a fantastic time, great location, atmosphere and accommodations. Would recommend this cabin to anyone. Great for children, being right on the Au sable river and our dogs felt right at home. 5 minutes from town in case you forgot anything, boutiques in town were quant and the people extremely friendly. Higgins lake was approx. 15-20 minutes away and had many activities to have fun.
My group just used the main house but it very clean and well equipped, owner was very accommodating. Nice place! My group would definitely stay there again.
The location of this property on the Au Sable River & its nearness to Grayling are definitely perks. The main cottage was clean & had nice appliances (except the dishwasher - tho maybe it just needs better detergent). It had all the conveniences of home. We enjoyed the cottage & the dock on the river - can't beat that in the morning to greet the day. We kayaked straight from the dock. The location on the river - perfect! And the ability to bring our dog along was so nice. 4 stars for the main cottage. The bunkhouse & mini bunkhouse were not as nice. Some of our older kids slept in the upstairs of the bunkhouse - that particular area was fine with lots of beds & a TV with a Wii - but just know it is across the road in the woods & has no bathroom. The bunkhouse main floor is unfinished & seemed a little dirty. Would be a good place in winter to dry out snowmobile or ski gear, though, which is perhaps its main purpose. It was nice to be able to park our dirt bikes & trailer out of the way over there. 3 stars for the bunkhouses. Appreciated John & Barb who were gracious hosts - and available when we had questions about anything. Overall, we really enjoyed our time here. Thank you!
The owners were great to work with and never bothered me. I would diffently book it again
Wonderful 3 day get together of friends and family at the most perfect spot! We were met by John as we arrived, and he gave us a full tour of the compound. With our group of 12, the older crowd hung out in the main house and the younger adults in the bunk house. It was great that bunk house was across the dirt road so we didn't hear them playing games till all hours of the morning! With 3 showers and two bathrooms available that worked out quite well! Close was close enough to Grayling, Gaylord and Hartwick Pines State Park. With the scenic Ausable flowing passed just a few yards away from the main house, wild life galore, (some of us got to see a elk and baby wading down the stream), we fished, had lots of yard to play lawn games and a large firepit for at night. The best part for me...waking up , grabbing a cup of coffee and sitting on the back deck overlooking the peaceful stream. My peace of heaven!
We had 11 people at the cabin and it was great. We would definitely come back. Jon was great and the property had everything. We swam in the river, fished off the dock, did Camp fires, etc. great fishing lakes nearby too. There were 6 adults and 5 kids in our group - ages 2-10 and all of them could swim and wade in the river just fine. Things to be aware of: I wish we had knowing that the bunk house was literally a big room with beds and no running water. It was on another lot and across the street. The downstairs was not cleaned but the upstairs was good for just sleeping in. The other thing is the water at the cabin tastes/smelled a little off. So we just got bottled water from town. All that being said - we would definitely come back again! We had a wonderful time and the location is perfect. Jon is an incredible host that is just 2 houses over if you need him. But not cramping your week at the cabin either. I would totally recommend this place!!! See you next summer Jon!
It's right on the river what more can you ask for, perfect for getting away and relax and take in nature, and take a raft trip down the river the whole family enjoyed it
Beautiful river setting is combined with an up-to-date, attractive and very comfortable main house with two bedrooms, two full baths, good kitchen and spacious living room. There are ample additional accommodations on the property, but our group didn't utilize them. The location is very convenient to Grayling if provisions are needed, or for dining out. Our group of four adults loved the place and recommend it highly. We are hoping to come back next year!
This place was amazing!! A group of friends and I make a trip up north to go canoeing/kayaking every year, and this was the best place we've stayed yet. We had some fishing poles out for a while each day, it was wonderful to take 20-30 steps outside and be able to throw a line in with the morning coffee. The cabin and bunkhouse were both spacious, we had a group of 8 but this place could easily accommodate a much larger group, many beds and room. Conveniently located with plenty of amenities a 5 minutes drive a day, and nearby liveries We made a trip 45 minutes north to go down the Sturgeon River on Friday, and then went to Shel Haven Livery in Grayling on Saturday to go down the manistee. I'd recommend the Sturgeon trip for more of a challenge/thrill (bonus is beach on Burt Lake near ending point at Big Bear Adventures), and the Manistee for more of a relaxed experience. John was great to deal with and very accommodating, made sure we had everything we needed. Already have talked with friends about a return trip!
We had a nice weekend. Rented the house because we were having a family reunion and surprise party in the area that weekend. It's a great location and being on the water was really nice. Bunk house great for teens, but not kids(the stairs a bit tricky) or older people...but our teenager's loved being away from the rest of the house. It was the only place however with wi-fi(none in main house) so we all migrated there eventually. Would recommend staying here.
If your looking for a great place to relax and enjoy the river along with all the local things to do, look no further. Lots of sleeping opportunities for larger families and groups. Great yard for hanging out by the river and relaxing too. Owners were very accommodating and welcoming.
Couldn't have asked for a better place to have the annual fishing trip with dad, my brother and our sons. Easy access to the beautiful Au Sable, very wadeable for fly fishing, nothing better than being in the water tossing flies on a perfect summer day. While there was a lot of pressure from the folks canoeing/kayaking on the weekend (that may have temporarily scared the trout away), even that was fun, friendly group of folks who we were happy to share the river with. Comfortable furnishings, pretty much everything we needed.
Beautiful vacation on a beautiful river. Thank you for your hospitality!!! Perfect for our family!!!
Homeowner was very responsive during the booking process and helpful in answering out questions. He was also very pleasant and personable and accommodating upon arrival providing us a detailed walk around. The cabin was just as we expected and what we had hoped for. Fully furnished with a riverside feel and decor. The neighbors were very quiet and we felt as that we were in a world of our own. The river was simply Beautiful and it was fun speaking to all the passer by's in canoes. The quaint town of Grayling was a short drive away and filled with everything we could need. Take the kids to the Coke a cola Resturant for a burger and a shake, it's a great treat for a vacation town. The bunk house was great for the older boys and have them their own place of adventure and independence. While the cabin was filled with so many pros, the river access for the kids was less than accommodating from a parents perspective. There were two docks, one was in need of repair and the ladder into the river wasn't all that safe. It wasn't attached and there were rusty nails sticking out. The lawn near the rivers edge had open holes that anyone could step into and some were covered by high grass. It's a wild river and to be expected but not at a rental. Fishing for the kids was also limited with low hanging trees in the yard and at the rivers edge making it very difficult for casting. Actually for me too even as a seasoned fly fisherman. (Lots of small Browns and Brooke's caught and released with a short wade) All in all we were pleased with our time there but can't say I would book again with my young kids. Few small tweaks to this property and it would be one of my all time favorites.
Had very nice stay here. Owner was very helpful moving beds for sleeping arrangements. Neighbors are closer than we thought but they seemed very nice.
I spent three nights at this place for fishing and a personal retreat and can't imagine a better location. It was close to my favorite fishing spots on the Manistee and Au Sable Rivers. The location was not only convenient, but it was delightful. When I wasn't fishing or getting great sleep in the very comfortable bed (!), I spent hours on the dock reading and watching nature. John is the perfect host--I had everything I needed and he was readily available had I needed anything else. I will definitely return, but for a longer stay next time.
I came to Michigan to spend time with family and friends. I knew I would be fishing on the Au Sable and decided at the last minute to rent a place near the river with room for everyone. To say I was lucky to find this place is an understatement. The star, of course, is the river. Such a beautiful and peaceful setting. The main cottage overlooks the river and has been well equipped and maintained. The bunk house is a fun and unique place, perfect for our night of poker and euchre. I highly recommend staying here. Friends who stayed here with me are already making plans to return with their own families. I look forward to returning as well.
