Rotonda West is a serene, planned community in Charlotte County in southwest Florida. The census-designated place lies somewhat halfway between Fort Myers and Sarasota in the proximity of the Gulf of Mexico. It was developed by Cavanagh Communities Corporation, the same company behind the now-defunct community called Rotonda in southern Martin County. The CDP lies on a total area of around 12 square miles. It is categorized under the Punta Gorda Metropolitan Statistical Area.

 

With its location on the Gulf Coast, Rotonda West boasts of a relatively mild weather. Extreme conditions are rare in the CDP. Temperatures typically exceed 90 degrees during the summer months, but the effect is reduced by the Gulf breezes. Also, they drop rapidly at night. Thunderstorms are common during summer. Brief frost may be seen on the ground before dawn during winter, but hard freezes are very uncommon.

 

There are more than 11,000 people living in Rotonda West, with this improving the likelihood of a community spirit. The figure shows more and more people are moving here, though, given the total population was less than 6,600 in 2000. The CDP has about 8,000 home sites, with more than 5,000 homes already completed. Majority of the residents are full-time homeowners. There are also those who come to Rotonda West just to winter. The CDP has just two public schools, which fall under the Charlotte County Public School District. However, these schools, Vineland Elementary School and L.A. Ainger Middle School, are highly rated in the state.

 

Rotonda West is nautical and boasts about 30 miles of scenic lakes, ponds and canals. It offers opportunity for enjoyable activities such as fishing, boating and other waterfront activities. It is home to many interesting birds and other wildlife. The area also has theaters and other facilities for enjoying your free time, just as there are many restaurants for fine dining. There is a large park with a playground and tennis courts at the center of the community. Rotonda Golf and Country Club also manages five golf courses in the area for exciting golf play.

 

With its serene and beautiful setting, Rotonda West is a community that will be loved by those who desire a tranquil, nautical environment with natural charm. The rapidly-growing CDP has lower number of young children and college students, groups that are known to generate the most noise. This makes it easier for many residents, especially those in knowledge-based industries, to work from home.
