Placida is a tiny community in Charlotte County, Florida on the state’s Gulf Coast. Located on the southernmost section of the Cape Haze FL peninsula, Placida boasts a population of just over 1,000. This is one of the more private areas you will find anywhere in Florida. It is renowned for its elegant Florida-style ranch homes spacious private homes with stunning waterfront views. Much of what goes on in Placida is designed for local residents, rather than tourists. To maintain their highly-prized privacy, most of the residential areas of Placida are gated with owner and guest access only.
Placida has an extremely liveable climate with temperatures averaging in the mid 70s in the winter and up to 92° in the summer months. Its water-adjacent location keeps the temperatures at a more comfortable level when the hotter months start to come around.
Given its scenic coastline and abundant access to water, it’s only natural that one of the more popular activities is taking a chartered fishing tour. The restaurant's large windows face right onto the waters of Placida Harbor making it an ideal spot to take in the breathtaking Placida sunsets.
While you’re in the area of The Fishery Restaurant, be sure to go to the nearby Margaret Albritton Art Gallery. This vibrantly colored destination is a working gallery and studio which houses original art work by Margaret and Garry Albritton. Inside you’ll find a variety of art, home décor items, beach themed articles, paintings and frames, all with a tropical theme running through them.
Schools in the Placida area are administered by the Charlotte County Public School system. Placida is a little slice of paradise on Florida’s Gulf Coast. Its charm has been described as a throwback to old-Florida with its classic 50's and 60's single-story block construction homes. Some have said that the street, architecture and surrounding foliage makes this particular swath of the Florida coastline reminiscent of the Louisiana bayou.
