It is nearly four thousand acres and a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) brimming with fauna and flora including the nightjar, rare orchids, fallow roe and muntjac deer, badgers, hares, rabbits, foxes, and many species of birds and butterflies. In 1980 the forest was the site of a supposed UFO event. US military personnel spotted strange lights above the forest. Timber is still harvested while being managed as a special place for nature and recreation. brHorse Paddock - Adjoining the garden is a small paddock with a two horse shelter with fresh water supply.
