Two room apartment on the second floor of an 1853 dependency apartment which housed the school room, governess’s room, billiard room and office on the grounds of Lansdowne 3 miles north of historic Natchez, Mississippi.brBuilt for Charlotte Hunt and George Matthews Marshall on 600 acres in 1853, Lansdowne was planned as a wooded country estate but became a working plantation in the late 19th century following the loss of the Marshalls’ Louisiana plantations. brThe spacious 18 x 20 bedroom has a Queen sized iron bed with contemporary bedside tables and lighting while an original bureau and period armoire provide space for clothing. The bath is completely updated with luxurious marble tile shower. The second room has a fully stocked modern kitchen, dining table with seating for three or four, and a comfy sofa (converts to small bed) for socializing. A wide wooden gallery with ceiling fans stretches 40 feet across the front of the building. brThe property is still owned by direct descendants of the original owners, one of whom, Marsha Colson, lives on site. The other owners and their children and grandchildren visit frequently.brThe Governess Quarters has been occupied by family members since the 1930s and is now primarily a vacation rental property. brbrA twin building facing the Governess Quarters across a courtyard originally housed the kitchen and washing room and quarters for the cook and butler and children’s nurse. The lake is private and owned by one individual but there are a few homes surrounding the lake. Southwood Lake is rich in history and the Lake was built in the late 70’s. It is known for trophy bass, white perch, bream, and catfish. Feel free to fish from the bank at the cabin. Catch and release all bass. Ask about other fish limits if you are interested in fishing during your stay. Southwood Lake is a Private members only lake and our guest have the benefit of fishing the lake but must follow lake rules. Catch and release of all bass is strictly monitored and enforced. Southwood Lake is a beautiful sight to see. The beautiful drive to the Cabin on Turkey Creek rd. is fascinating and the family will love the possibility of seeing exotic wildlife just beyond the high fence on the way in. Fishing is allowed, but Catch and release all bass. Catfish, Perch, and bream can be kept. If you catch a trophy bass (MEASURE, WEIGH, AND HAVE A REPLICA MADE) Let them go to grow! GMG Properties strictly enforces fish harvest with surveillance and we do not want to lose access to fishing for our guest. So please respect the rules. 1. CATCH AND RELEASE ALL BASS 2. Any Car, truck, or SUV should be fine as long as they have standard ground clearance of most vehicles for the hills.

Guests will enjoy the original mantles, molding, and floors, as well as the antique 'six over six' windows, allowing for plenty of sunshine. The 3rd bedroom and bathroom are located on the ground floor, along with the kitchen, washer/dryer, and a large family room, complete with dining tables and TV. The new kitchen has stainless appliances, ice-maker, coffee makers, and all the cooking basics.brbrBoth floors have covered porches that provide access to the iconic courtyard, all perfect spots for coffee or cocktails. Noras Cottage was built in 1900. The cottages primary bedroom is furnished with a four piece Prudent Mallard rosewood bedroom suite made in 1850-1860. The second bedroom has a queen size mahogany Mallard bed and armoire. Luxury linens,towels, and toiletries are provided. This home is a Non-Smoking home.Like us on FB Nora’s Cottage of Natchez!! Easy walk to Mississippi River and all areas of Natchez. Did I mention we also have covered parking with a little outdoor patio set perfect for relaxing. Absolutely no cooking allowed for catering events/weddings/etc… microwave provided for heating left overs etc.. No stove usage allowed due to past experiences!! No electrical appliances, camping stoves, portable grills, butane or gas burners allowed on the property! No commercial use allowed!! However on a positive note!!! A food voucher for $50.00 will be left on the top of the microwave to eat at the Little Easy. The little easy is located at 114 High Street Natchez, MS. Enjoy a meal on us! See menu on website!!
