Awel y Grug rests in its own grounds in the little village of Nantmor, between Beddgelert and Porthmadog. The Welsh Highland steam railway has a halt in the village where you can board the train for a trip to Porthmadog on the west coast or to the town of Caernarfon with its spectacular castle to the north. There are lovely walks available from the door out into the beautiful surrounding countryside or along the river to Beddgelert. In summer the near-by Osprey project is worth a visit. Easy driving to the mountains and the coast, especially Black Rock Sands, Portmeirion, and the Llyn peninsula. Harlech, a seaside resort further away, offers visitors the chance to relax on the beach, learn about the town's mediaeval history at Castell Harlech, or simply enjoy the view from a nearby café. The nearby town of Criccieth and the Italianate village of Portmeirion are both fantastic day trips. The village of Tremadog is a great starting point for adventures in North Wales.
