A brilliant event to watch some pro mountain bikers and to join in the festivities with live bands of the evening. Follow signs to Richmond. Once in Richmond itself, follow signs for Reeth (A6108). Approximately 4 miles beyond Richmond on the A6108, turn right at a sign for Marske, Marrick, Hurst. Marske is a mile along this road. Turn right just after the 30mph signs, at the first junction you reach in Marske (the junction has a grassy triangle and is the lowest point in the village). Keep left at the next junction and almost immediately turn left again into the lane marked Access OnlybrThis is a dead end lane. At the end is a gate, beyond which is a gravelled track. Go through the gate (please leave it as you find it) and along the track through one field. Over a cattle grid and round a bend you come to a cluster of houses, which is Clints. Park on the left and you will see Apple Tree Cottage over the green, just slightly behind Chapel Cottage. The cottage is the left hand end of the terrace, and the door is at the side, under the porch.brbrAlternative route from the south via Bedale, Patrick Brompton and Downholme (avoiding A1 roadworks and Catterick/Richmond):brLeave the A1 at Leeming and follow signs to Bedale, then at a new roundabout on the edge of Bedale, turn right for Leyburn. Follow this road through Crakehall and just after Patrick Brompton turn right (signed Hunton, Hauxwell, Catterick). Follow this road for a couple of miles. Over the brow of a hill there is a sudden left turn signed Hauxwell and Leyburn. Take this left turn and continue for a couple of miles. At the Give Way sign at an oblique junction continue nearly straight on (signed Leyburn). After about a mile, and a tight left bend, take the next right (signed Wathgill, Richmond, Reeth). Follow the road past Downholme village and continue down the hill. At the bottom of the hill stay on the road where it bends to the right, and continue 200-300 yards to a left turn signed Marske, Marrick, Hurst. Marske is a mile along this road. Turn right at the junction in the village (signed to Whashton and Ravensworth), keep left at the next junction and almost immediately afterwards, turn left into the lane marked Access Only. See the paragraph above for instructions from this dead end road.brbrTravelling from the North East via the A1:brTurn off the A1 at Scotch Corner and follow the signs to Richmond and then towards Reeth. About 4 miles out of Richmond you will see a right hand turn signposted Marske and Marrick. Follow directions above.brbrTravelling from the South West via M6:brTurn off the M6 at junction 37 and follow the A684 East through Sedbergh, Clough and Garsdale Head. Just before Hawes turn left towards Hardraw and left over the Buttertubs pass, to Muker and on to Reeth. Go through Reeth, over the bridge, another 1⁄4 mile or so and you will see a left turn on a corner, signed Marske and Marrick – turn left here. After about 5 miles, you will come down the hill into Marske (not signed). Turn left over the bridge (follow the ‘Coast to Coast’ walkers sign). This brings you into the main part of Marske. Ignore one minor left turn marked ‘Private Road’. At the next junction (with a house directly ahead), turn left, and almost immediately left again into a lane marked ‘Access Only’ and ‘no motorised traffic’. This is the dead end road. Follow directions above.brbrTravelling from the North WestbrGet onto the A66 and approx. 2 miles after the A67 turn off to Barnard Castle take the minor road to the right marked Reeth. Follow this winding but scenic road to its end at the T-junction. Turn left, still towards Reeth. Follow the road into the middle of Reeth, where you will come to a T-junction (the Buck Hotel is directly on your right). Houseboat on the Thames in London next to Kew Gardens

Richmond, England, United Kingdom

Seahorse is a Dutch Barge originally built in 1906. She is now a very comfortable houseboat on the Thames. Enjoy being surrounded by nature, whilst being only 30 minutes by train from the centre of London. Kew is a fantastic area. Visit the royal botanical gardens which are only 5 minutes away or enjoy some good food and a drink in one of the many cozy pubs. Seahorse has a great deck that you can sit on and watch the world go by on the Thames. If its too chilly to sit outside, relax in the wheelhouse which has 360 degree views of the Thames.brbrParking a car is difficult in London, and we do not have private parking. There are options that we can help you with, especially if you don't plan to move your car for the duration of your stay, but we would recommend coming without one- and then using public transport- brbrSeahorse is a historic boat, and not a brand new AirBnB- so may not suit all travellers! We re-paint and clean it on a regular basis but as everything is bespoke, it can be a challenge to keep it pristine.brbr If you are after 5 star hotel luxury, then maybe this isn't for you. But If you want something a bit different and are up for a bit of an adventure, Seahorse is a fantastic place to stay whilst visiting London. You will be living on the river, so you might be woken up by a goose landing on the roof, or have other close encounters with wildlife. If you a lucky you might even see a curious seal swimming past the window!

Millgate Cottage in the heart of Richmond

Richmond, England, United Kingdom

The Millgate Cottage is a very unique and quirky 17th-century cottage with a modern contemporary feel. It is located in the heart of the historical and beautiful Georgian market town of Richmond in North Yorkshire and is at the doorstep of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales National Park.brbrThis cozy, historic cottage has many unique characteristics typical of the period, such as wooden beam ceilings, solid flagstone ground floor, and, yes, very steep stairs - the bathroom is on the top floor conveniently next to the bedroom. The property feels spacious with rooms on three different floors, which are furnished in a way to make your stay comfortable and relaxing.brbrJust a short walk down Millgate road, literally at the corner, is the impressive 11th-century Richmond Castle, whose 950th anniversary is celebrated last year. There is a stunning view of the Richmond waterfalls from the castle and the River Swale, which is also just 5 minutes from the cottage. From the waterfalls, you can turn left and you can take a lovely stroll along the river to the ruins of Easby Abbey, which was founded in 1152 and was a subject of the British artist JMW Turner. Turning right, you will soon reach the National Trusts Hudswell Woods. Another treat on this path is an award-winning pub, the George and Dragon with one of the most beautiful beer gardens in the country. brbrFor a more cultured evening, you could take in a show at the Georgian Theatre Royal, or check what is on at The Station, a community enterprise with live concerts, an art gallery, an artisan café, a local brewery, and a cinema.brbrThere are also several pubs, groceries, independent shops, and cafes to choose from, in and around the market square. There is also a lively local food market here every Saturday.brbrPlease note, as this is a 1700-century cottage the stairs are steep. Therefore, the cottage may not be suitable for those with any mobility issues.
