While they mostly keep to themselves, occasionally you will see them exploring the grounds or lounging around. They may come and say hello, but primarily they keep to themselves. We ask to keep the gate closed at all times, as the neighborhood dogs do tend to come up and we like to ensure their comfort and safety from any other animals. If you have any concerns about the kitties during your stay please done hesitate to reach out. brbrbrGetting Here and Around brWe are 100 kilometers from the Los Cabos International Airport. A rental car is necessary. An AWD or 4x4 vehicle is recommended for the unpaved roads throughout Baja and leading to the Villa as well as parking within the gates of the Villa, although there is plenty of street parking in front. The quickest way to the villa is to hop on the toll road leaving the airport. You will first take a ticket then pay upon exiting the toll road, usually around $5 USD. USD or Pesos are accepted. Follow signs for Todos Santos. After exiting the toll road and entering the main highway, you can use G-Maps to navigate to Villa Damiana.brbrBoth San Pedrito Beach and Cerrtios Beach are a quick 10 minute drive down the hill. There are two small restaurants within walking distance - Potrero Pizza.brbrbrbrGroceries and Sundries brIt is recommended to stop for groceries before arriving to the rural area of El Pescadero. Although there are smaller local grocers and organic roadside produce stands, you will want to get the basics at a large store such as Chedraui Select, Mega Soriana, Costco, or Walmart. Locally, we have Argricole dubbed “the Whole Foods of Baja” where you can get all your local fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh baked pastries, local yogurt, specialty coffees. They also offer a fantastic array of sandwiches and other goodies to fill your cooler for your excursions. Playa Los Cerritos is the most popular beach in the area, and is the best known for surfers and those wanting surf lessons. There are plenty of umbrellas along the beach for rent, and occasionally a vendor will come by with jewelry, blankets, ice cream or margaritas (score!). brbrEvery Sunday during high season, Baja Beans hosts a weekly Farmer’s Market where local artisans, farmers and craftsmen sell fresh produce, paintings, jewelry, blankets, locally-made clothing, and much more. Along with the delicious food at Baja Beans, we love perusing the beautiful handmade, ethically-sourced goods at Zócolo.brbrThe charming and vibrant town of Todos Santos is known for its art galleries, world class cuisine, historic mission and regional museum, as well as many boutiques and bookstores. Todos Santos⁠, meaning “All Saints”⁠, is a small coastal pueblo with captivating charm. Many say it’s a reminder of what Cabo was 20 years ago. The main downtown attraction is Hotel California, famed as the one from the Eagles’ song. Controversy arose years ago when the band made it official that this was not the hotel in their song, but I don’t think we care. It is still fun to visit this hotel, restaurant, and gift shop, imagining it as the lyrics describe. This is the best place to enjoy live music in the area. Todos Santos is a quick 15 minute drive from Villa Damiana.

When you leave the conveniences of your home, entering this beautiful region of rural Mexico, you leave behind the expectations that everything is going to happen smoothly. While this sounds like an inconvenience, instead it is what makes this space magical. We get to slow down and remember what is truly necessary, appreciating what is important. We have this unique opportunity to take a step back and experience Baja as it is, not how we want it to be.**brbrSetting Expectations:brDriving at night is dangerous due to cows on the road or cars without headlights (not banditos!) Please go slow. Most roads off the main highway are dirt and all roads in the area have potholes with lots of bumps. Most roads do not have street names, and houses do not have addresses. You must rely on the maps provided and do a little research of your own. Baja midnight is considered 9:00pm, and expect many businesses to close at this time. Buildings typically leak during rains, and water can come under doors depending on the amount of rain. We are in the desert with many new human inhabitants, therefore, the natives do make appearances. We attempt to mitigate this as much as possible, but please do not be surprised if you see a mouse or two, flies and gnats (bobos), ants, scorpions, or a rare snake. There is always dust no matter how much we clean! The entire Cerritos area is quickly developing so plan to see and hear construction in the distance. This area is considered safe, but we do still have petty theft. Please lock electronics and valuables in safes or locked cabinets when you are not home. We recommend trip insurance as unfortunately we cannot refund for weather, nearby construction, or rural Mexico related incidents.brbrPlease note:brThe pool is services 2 times per week, Tuesday and Saturday mid-day afternoon. They will have a truck with signage and typically have shirts with their logo, Laguna Sur TS.brbrYou may also see the gardener, internet service provider, gas provider, water truck, or other service personal during your stay. These services need regular maintenance to operate well. If you have any concerns, please reach out to Mayra the property manager. The beaches closest to Casa Hygge are great for sunrise, sunset, whale watching, picnic lunches, and daytime relaxing, however, the current is too strong to swim in El Pescadero and Todos Santos area.brbrWHERE CAN I SURF CLOSE TO MY BUNGALOW brJust a 10-minute drive south is Cerritos Beach where you can surf yourself, or take lessons if you’re a beginner. There are other areas for surfing if you are more advanced – we can recommend them to you during your stay.
