Eagle's Nest Cabin on Salmon Creek

Seward, Alaska, United States

Located along what locals call Eagle Alley, the property sits on Salmon Creek and is the perfect location for your whole family's Alaskan adventures. The cabin is on a quiet street away from the bustle of town, but still close for a quick trip to the grocery store, Exit Glacier, or the Sea Life Center. You'll be surrounded by mountain views and access to a rushing river with spawning salmon all summer. Salmon Creek attracts many bald eagles, and they are often seen fishing. Most years, a nest is built in the cottonwood tree near the river. If active, you'll see chicks in the nest by June and July. By August they'll be pretty confident in flight. We often have moose wander through the property and even the occasional brown bear can be seen in the creek when the salmon are running. brbrThe house features vaulted wood ceilings, 1st floor bathroom, 2nd floor master bathroom, and on-site laundry. The attached 3-season room (or arctic entry as they are know here) offers an outdoor dining area or place to dry out clothes or fishing gear. You will find a queen beds in the upstairs master bedroom and 1st floor bedroom, and twin bunk beds in the 3rd bedroom. All bedroom windows have thick curtains for blocking out Alaska's midnight sun. The house is on the smaller side at 1,000sf but vaulted ceilings, huge windows, and large yard give it a spacious feel. brbrThe kitchen is fully stocked with cookware, utensils, knife set, cutting boards, and bowls/cups/plates. For appliances you'll find a microwave, stove/oven, toaster, coffee maker/grinder (filters and locally roasted whole bean coffee are supplied), and full size refrigerator/freezer. We stock a choice of coffees, selection of tea, cooking oil, and common spices. Outside, there is a fire pit and Webber charcoal grill (charcoal is supplied). brbrThe forested property has a path that winds through patches of wild strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries ending at the private shore of the creek. You'll find a fire-pit with benches and a charcoal grill (supplies included). brbrThe yard is a typical rural Alaskan yard: lots of alder, low bushy willow, an old shed, devil's club, dandelion, and fireweed. In other words, a little wild, but excellent moose browse and cover. Moose don't browse or feel comfortable on lawns. South-central Alaska is like a jungle in the summer, and although there is a lawn of sorts and plenty of room for the fire pit or even a round of wiffleball, much of the property is left wild. brbrThere is an owner occupied cabin on the far side of the one acre property. We're available to chat and answer questions outside of our busy summer jobs, or available anytime via phone or message. brbrHouse Rules:brAt least one person from each party should read the house manual upon arrival. brbrThe house is on a private well and septic system. The tap water is great: double filtered, fresh, and clean tasting. The septic system requires care to ensure no oil or food enter the drains. Wipe out oily pans with paper towels and throw away. brbrQuiet hours are 11pm-8am. Ours is a peaceful quiet neighborhood. No outdoor music/yelling during quiet hours. Parties are not allowed. brbrChildren should be supervised near the creek. brbrWildlife uses the property and has right of way. Do not approach any wildlife on the property or anywhere in Alaska. We have never had any issue and the neighborhood is safe for children, but we ask visitors simply to be aware of their surroundings. Eagles and their nests are federally protected, it is against the law to disturb a nest, eagles, or a nest tree. brbrWe have a can of Bear Spray available if you want to carry it while hiking in the area. Please return it to the porch when you are done. We ask that bear spray not be brought inside the house.

Timely reporting of any damage during the Term is critical. Lovely home in the woods, with hot tub and campfire ring

Seward, Alaska, United States

Relax in this beautiful home in a spruce forest, 5 miles from downtown Seward. brbrThe home is ideal for larger groups. The main part of the house has a fully appointed kitchen upstairs, with a bedroom and half bath on this floor. There are 2 decks on this level - one that is covered (perfect for dinners outside even on less-than-perfect weather days!) and one deck that faces the evening sun, which is great for happy hour. Downstairs is a full bath and bedroom with a queen bed and twin bunkbeds. brbrThrough the laundry room, there is another side of the house that is a loft apt. Here there is another full kitchen, couch and TV, bedroom with a queen bed, and the loft with a comfy queen futon. The loft is accessed with steep stairs, so no children under age 8 are allowed in this space. There is also a bathroom with shower on this side of the house, and an arctic entry with a chest freezer to store your fishing charter catch.brbrThe backyard has a trail with a log bridge leading out to a fire ring, and firewood is provided. There is also a hot tub on the back deck, looking out to the spruce forest.brbrThere is a gas grill for use on the deck just off the upstairs kitchen, and a wood stove to help keep things cozy. Note there is no TV in the main living room of the home. There is a TV in the upstairs bedroom and the loft apt. We do provide WiFi but no cable.brbrWe purchased the home in 2006 and just loved it. When we moved to Anchorage in 2010 we did rent it on VRBO for a few years with rave reviews. Now that our children are older we've decided to rent it out again. We still use the home ourselves, so the kitchen is fully stocked (spices, oils, excellent cookware), there are games, etc. We want to share it with others who will also enjoy and take good care of it.brbr** Please note that we do have a Ring security camera on all entrances of the home. This camera is in place for security reasons only.
