This superb villa is tucked away in its own secluded valley in the picturesque, Serra de Monchique, the Monchique mountain range. But, being in the low foothills it is not at all remote with its driveway off the Portimao to Monchique Road. There are three restaurants just a few metres from the gates, yet at the house, it is easy to believe you are alone in the world. This truly magical spot with its palm trees and beautiful mimosas in the private garden around the pool has a pretty streamrunning though the land and you can enjoy your own private woodland walk along the river bank.

The the beauty spot and spa village of Caldas de Monchique is just 2km up the road and the mountain village of Monchique is about 10 minutes by car while the big fishing port of Portimao with lots of nightlife is only about 20 minutes away. The beach resorts of Praia da Rocha, Ferragudo and Alvor are also in the same area.

The villa has four bedrooms, four bathrooms (2 with baths that have shower attachments, 1 with a hydrotherapy shower unit and 1 with a standard shower cubicle). Three bedrooms have balconies, while at ground level there are two patios, one of them connected to a new wooden deck with ample outdoor furniture for everyone and an attractive fire-pit. The pool area has sunbeds and a large barbecue. Indoors, the main living room is a huge open plan area with with comfortable seating for everyone and a 55 smart TV. For cooler times of year there is a wood burning stove and a supply of logs. The separate dining room also has a wood burner and French doors open directly onto the patio and sun deck, which which also has direct access to the kitchen, so it is perfect for al-fresco dining.

For shopping, Monchique has an excellent Intermarche supermarket and numerous small shops, while the large town of Portimao has every type of shop from shopping malls and hypermarkets down to tiny businesses in the back streets. Buses stop close to our gates for Monchique or Portimao, but a car is recommended for convenience.

The villa offers you a very private and quiet holiday while being centrally located. There are several good golf courses within about 20 minutes by car and also some spectacular beaches about the same distance away. Nearby, there are two interesting Portuguese Pottery shops and also the Parque da Mina historic farm park.

* Internet & WiFi is provided free to our guests via a fibre broadband connection which also provides cable television. In the event of a service failure, we will do all we can to get a speedy repair, but this is entirely in the hands of the telecoms company. Our large satellite dish picks up UK television, but it is operating at the extreme range of the UK service. In the event of a programme loss we will call out the local engineers but we cannot guarantee UK programmes.

Quinta da Mimosa is located in the foothills of the beautiful 3000ft Monchique mountains, but as it is only about 350 feet above sea level it is not up in the clouds nor 'out in the sticks'.

In August 2018, there were serious forest fires in the Monchique area. Luckily, Quinta da Mimosa was safe from this mainly because it does not have lots of pine or eucalyptus trees nearby and it also gets protection from the stream. Also, the mimosa trees do not burn so easily as other species. New growth is already hiding most of the damage to the forest areas and thousands of new trees have been planted, using more fire resistant varieties.

If you enjoy walking, the footpaths from the property leading to trails that cover the whole Monchique eco zone are worth exploring. Quite a strenuous effort is needed for some of the tracks which are quite rough, but if you are fit enough it is a good experience and one benefit of the fires is that they did open up the views where previously the forest had been very overgrown.

What a find! I visited Caldas de Monchique 25 years ago and I am so happy I remembered and booked this beautiful spot. The house has lots of room to spread out, everything works and the inside and outside space facilitates relaxation! Although you have the most beautiful natural surroundings ( wild boar in the river below at night - dark skies for the sky watchers and all manner of frogs butterflies and birds in the gorgeous gardens round the lovely pool. You are still close to restaurants ( one directly opposite the property) Also a 20 minute drive to the spectacular Pria de vau ! Big waves and warm sea ( depending on which way current is flowing ) Supermarket is 10 mins drive - eating in is preferable if you want to enjoy vino verde by the pool and not worry about driving home. Great barbecue and local fish market saw us satisfied!! Really didn’t want to leave! Spa hotel delivered the best massages we ladies had ever had ( we are fussy ladies ) Boys 16 x 3 also for with the chilled vibe and enjoyed the pool, going on little walks and watched some films Everything in the villa worked well and the space was great . We all had a wonderful time and we will be back to enjoy nature at its best without being miles from anywhere. One of our best ever holidays! Thanks Judith and co

We stay here regularly because we cannot resist going back. It's centrally located, not too far up the mountain and not too far from Portimao and the beaches. It is wonderfully relaxing and the villa really has everything we need and is very spacious with four bedrooms and four bathrooms as well as a separate dining room. There are some traditional country restaurants an easy walk away..

We had a very nice stay in Portugal but was a bit disappointed about the kitchen cuttlery, that only one set of towels were available per person, no towels were replaced during the stay and that the maid did not show up until we contacted the house representative.

We had the please sure of staying at the villa in Aug 16. Its roughly 1 hr away from Faro airport, and if you follow the supplied instructions its very easy to find. The villa is very spacious with separate living room and dining room, the lounge comes with satellite TV which gives you the basic BBC and news channels. The villa comes with Wifi which is 3G based so the connection speeds can be intermittent, its fine for web browsing, IM, snap chat etc, however you may struggle to watch netflix or BBC iplayer i would recommend downloading any films. The bedrooms again are spacious, and the mattress are nice and firm, my only grip is whilst all the rooms have fans, their is no AC, due to the location of the villa its quite cool at night however towards the end of our stay it the temperature reached the late 30s and we would have preferred AC. cleaning lady visits every day to clean the villa and change bedding and she can help resolve any issues and also advise on places to go and see, when we arrived at the villa some of the sun beds where damaged and she arranged for new ones the next day. a few more parasouls would be good. The villa is clean and the photos fairly depict the furniture and style of the villa. The pool is a lagoon style pool in a figure 8 shape, its split into 2 halfs, the first half is shallow about 70cm deep so ideal for young kids, the 2nd half is 1.80cm deep so older kids can jump. The pools roughly about 8m long so you can really do lenghts in it. It looks amazing at night with the pool lights on so some great pictures.. The best thing about the villa is its locations, its away from any main stream tourist bars and restaurants and .so if you want to experience the real Portugal this is the villa for you. There are a number of local restaurants on the main rd, and they are great value for money and very friendly. One of the gems about this is villa is its very secluded so at night the Sky comes alive and if you go to the top balcony its great for Star gazing. If you want to go a bit more main stream the large town of Albufeira and Portimao are roughly 30-40 mins away in a car and approx 20euros in a Taxi. Another great drive is mount Foia which is approx 1000m and if you have the nerve to drop to the top you will be rewarded with some amazing views. The owners provide a fantastic guide to the villa and how to use the facilities and also the local area, which has some handy tips about locations to see and visit.

Spacious villa with wonderful pool and spa set in 12 acres of private grounds. Owner Alan very helpful, promptly responding to all requests and especially helpful with providing information on the local area and restaurants. Maid service 5 times a week. Villa within walking distance of a couple of restaurants and the bus stop. Very private, unpretentious villa made for a relaxing stay.

This property was very private and we were blessed with gorgeous weather for nearly the entire month that we were there. The villa was clean and well kept. Only draw back would be that it was quite cool during the early morning and after sunset. There are electric heaters, but the system can only handle a couple heaters plugged in at a time. So just remember to bring cozy clothes for when the sun has disappeared! Close to loads of beaches and restaurants. The owners were awesome to deal with, we would absolutely recommend this villa!

A wonderful stay! Ideal for relaxing, after a day of travel. Despite the absolute privacy and tranquility, it's located close to the road and it takes 25-30 minutes to get to the beach. We preferred to Meia Praia, although there are many other equally interesting beaches. Just not far from the house is a termal Caldas De Monchique Spa Resort and Monchique mountain with stunning views. The nature around is amazing. The house is large, very clean and bright. Bedrooms are comfortable, with nice balconies. Kitchen is well equipped. Lovely pool, great place for a barbecue. Huge convenient parking. The place is so picturesque that do not want to leave. The owner, Alan, responds immediately to every email. He is very kind and provide exellent service. I would recommend this house to all those who seek tranquility, serenity and comfort.
