Manoir de La Sauzade is a beautiful, classic, French country house, built in the 18th century, within walking distance of the historic village of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne. Intended as a home-away-from-home rather than just a holiday let, every detail has been chosen with care. The main house together with the cottage sleeps 19 and is ideal for inter-generational family gatherings, holidays, reunions, corporate retreats.

The rooms are spacious and comfortable. The ground floor consists of an entrance hall with curving staircase, a large dining kitchen and a separate family sitting room lead off to the left, and a formal dining room and sitting room to the right. Behind the dining room and formal sitting room is a downstairs bedroom with a stone fireplace, and its own bathroom. (Bedrooms are described below, two (twin and double) are located in a separate cottage with its own small kitchen and living space.)

One superking bedroom together with a bathroom is located on the ground floor, and the sweeping staircase leads up to the other bedrooms in the main house, which look over the front lawn and swimming pool.

The house is furnished with antique furniture. It has a TV, Playstation 4 and DVD player. There are many books as well as games and DVDs, a children's toy cupboard, table tennis, and some outdoor games.

There is a covered terrace to the side of the house for relaxing, drinks, dining, as well as a further covered eating area on the main lawn with a barbecue.

The swimming pool is heated and separated by a wall and safety gate from the main garden. It is surrounded by a travertine terrace and is equipped with loungers, deck chairs and a table and chairs for reading, or doing the crossword!

Dove Cottage opens onto the back courtyard of the house, and comprises a living area, with cooking facilities, a bathroom, additional toilet, a twin-bedded room and a small double room. It has it own small terrace for breakfasts, or a quiet read.

The kitchen has an electric oven with a gas hob and a very large circular table, for family dining. Attached is a separate scullery with fridges and a washing machine. There is an outside rotary drying line in the garden, as well as racks in the covered barn area at the back of the house.

There are two sitting rooms, one adjacent to the kitchen for family gatherings and the other, more formal room, adjacent to the formal dining room. There is a Hi Fi in the formal sitting room, a selection of CDs, and also a large collection of books in the cupboards.

The picturesque village of Aubeterre is a 600 metre walk away, with its restaurants, wine bars, shops and market. There is also a river beach and canoeing at Aubeterre, as well as tennis courts.

If you are a very large group, we would be happy to help you accommodate more family and friends at our second property, just 10 minutes drive from Manoir de La Sauzade, close to the village of Juignac. A converted barn, with a beautiful swimming pool (12m x 6m) that sleeps seven. It is called Les Etables at Sarniquet, which was originally a walnut and flour mill. You can view this on VRBO- property number: HAUK 8253168. Stays of a shorter duration can also be booked at Les Etables.

We had an amazing stay at La Sauzade, the property is stunning with plenty of charming features in keeping with a grand French manor. We found the rooms comfortable and spacious and there was a good mix of double and family rooms to suit our party. We enjoyed the pool, table tennis and the kids really made the most of the extensive property grounds. Aubeterre is only 15 mins walk away and was great fun to explore.

Had a fantastic week at this lovely house. Large oak beams, massive stone fireplaces, and a wonky (in a charming way) staircase, it is the French country house of your dreams. The grounds of the house are great, large enough for a decent game of rounders and football. The swimming pool was large and very warm. The surrounding countryside is beautiful and Aubettere is a delight.

We spent a wonderful week at La Sauzade. A really lovely house in a beautiful spot, within easy reach of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne (we walked in). The house had everything we needed (and more) and was ideal for our group (extended family with a mix of adults, teenagers and small children). The pool was really great and we spent much of our time there. Pamela and Michael were great hosts, too. Aubeterre was lovely to visit and, had the pool not been so good, I’m sure we would have spent more time there!

A really gorgeous week spent in this beautiful house. The perfect place for an extended family gathering with plenty to do as well as relaxing by the pool. A well equipped kitchen and lots of space and some lovely big bedrooms. Really nice to be near enough to walk into Aubeterre which is such a pretty place. Thank you very much and we hope to be back!

It was very hard to get in touch via abritel/vrbo, the site does not work, my phone number was not shown, etc. but Pamela spent considerable effort to make it work. The house is huge, the British sealing and toilets have some quirks, but the swimming pool is fantastic. Many many things to see around (troglodyte church, caves, markets, lots of beautiful villages…). Do take your mosquito protection with you though, there are quite a few. The house does stay very cool even in the hot summer. I’ll finish and say abritel/vrbo is a horrible website, even now the web page to type the review is half broken… (nothing to do with the house but it seems there is no other place to mention this)

Past reviews have been very accurate in their wording and really I have nothing further to add to the many comments praising the property ; having enjoyed a great family holiday there, it is just a pity that with being no longer available, the likelihood of us being able to return is remote.
