Tsuga on the Ridge offers the classic mountain vacation escape… Beautiful, expansive views of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Rock Castle Gorge below are enjoyed from this well-appointed, secluded mountain top vacation home on seven acres. The home borders National Forest land providing plenty of privacy and and has a large 3 acre open mowed yard area, perfect for kids and dogs to run and play.

Tsuga on the Ridge is the only home directly adjoining the forested and protected Rocky Knob Recreation Area and on Rock Castle Gorge, rewarding guests with pristine, undeveloped views of Rock Castle Gorge, the Blue Ridge Parkway and Rocky Knob from the home, yard or deck overlooking the gorge. Tsuga on the Ridge is the perfect home base to explore the network of Rocky Knob Recreation Area hiking trails.

Tsuga on the Ridge was the summer home of Burke Davis – an award-winning southern journalist, novelist, and nonfiction writer. He was best known for his popular war histories and biographies. He and his lovely wife Juliet Burnett Davis “re-claimed” two 1800s vintage log cabins, using them as bedroom wings of the modern central home. The kitchen, living and dining areas, one guest bedroom and bathrooms are located in the new construction which joins the two cabins.

As you step inside your eyes are immediately drawn to the wall of sliding glass doors. Sweeping mountain views take your breath away. The stars at night are incredible. The wide plank heart pine flooring and vaulted ceiling create an inviting space for family and friends to enjoy watching TV with surround sound or playing board games late into the night. There is a well-equipped galley kitchen, and numerous cookbooks to read. The Master bedroom in the Master cabin overlooks the Blue Ridge Parkway. The room is furnished with family antiques and a king sized bed covered in lovely linens. The hand hewn logs of the cabin add to the ambiance. A guest bedroom with a queen size bed is located off the hallway which joins the guest cabin to the central living area. The guest cabin has a downstairs bedroom with twin beds. A hidden stair case leads to the fourth bedroom, perfect for kids and located on the second floor of the guest cabin. This bedroom is appointed with twin beds, antiques and art from a renowned regional artist.

The beauty of the Blue Ridge may be appreciated from anywhere on this mountain top escape. Guests may also enjoy picking blueberries, hiking to the top of the High Hill (at 3400 feet the highest point in Patrick County) or fishing at nearby Three Ponds. (All are owned by the Tsuga on the Ridge owners.) A lower deck provides a spectacular setting for an al fresco dinner overlooking Rock Castle Gorge.

Offsite activities include breakfast at Mabry Mill, hiking the numerous trails of the Blue Ridge Parkway, visiting Rocky Knob, dining at Chateau Morsette, sipping wine at Villa Appalaccia Winery, zip lining at Buffalo Mountain Ziplines, gazing at Lover’s Leap or indulging at Nancy’s Candy Factory. Golfers may enjoy playing at Olde Mill Resort, Primland Highland Course, or Great Oaks. Come relax, and unwind and enjoy all this wonderful historic Blue Ridge mountain property has to offer with comfort and confidence provided by Starlink internet and a new 20KW whole-house generator and new dedicated propane tank to provided power no matter the conditions!

I am so thankful we came to Tsuga on the Ridge! The house was clean, beds comfortable, and the view is amazing! We would definitely stay here again if we are in the area.

The house is great! Very, very clean. It has everything that you need. The view from the back porch is truly unbelievable. The property is secluded and very quiet, but 15 minutes from Meadows of Dan and Chateau Morrisette Winery and Restaurant. Communication with the host was great! Without a doubt, this is the most peaceful place we have stayed at.

Four sisters from Montana, Houston, Atlanta and Floyd - and we enjoyed a long weekend with the leaves changing, fun in Floyd and driving the Blue Ridge Pkwy! The property was gorgeous and we had had plenty of room! The sunrises in the back were picture perfect- the kitchen was well outfitted, spotless! We hope to return!

We have stayed at a lot of vacation rentals over the last 10 years. Tsuga on the Ridge remains at the very top of our ever expanding list. I do not have space to list all the reasons why but other rave reviews all tell the truth - as does the listing itself: This is a magical place, clearly loved by the owners. It is amazing they share it with strangers as they do. We had a much needed mini vacation at the peak of fall color and in amazing weather. We hiked, we star gazed, we visited wineries and restaurants ,, but it's the house, it's property and it's famed views that remain the highlight of the trip. We found it very hard to leave this morning and we will definitely be back again!

We just returned from a lovely and relaxing stay at this charming home. The property location is off to itself which provides for privacy and quiet. The views from the home are stunning and there is an overlook as well. We really enjoyed sitting on the porch at various points throughout the stay as well as enjoying the wood burning fireplace throughout our stay. The beds were very comfortable and the bathrooms and kitchen had everything we needed plus more. Communication with the owner was quick and easy. I forgot my Kindle at the home and the cleaner/owner worked together quickly to let me know and ship it to me. We will be back for another stay in the future!

The cabin was great, clean, very well equipped with everything you could need. It also has great charm with the old cabins bookending the addition. The great room/living room was large and very comfortable. We loved how secluded the cabin was. The views were by far the best part. The apple trees next to the deck were deer magnets. Even had the chance to see two large bucks, which you never see. We would absolutely stay there again! Thank you!

The house, the grounds, the view all conspire to keep you relaxed and amazed by the beauty. The kitchen is well stocked, bedrooms and living area comfortable and attractively decorated. Clara is a warm, proactive, and responsive host. I always hate to leave.

What a wonderful place. A mix of old-fashioned log cabin with convenience of modern amenities. The mature grounds with oh so many different varieties of trees and shrubs attracted wildlife galore. We put a little sugar water in a hummingbird feeder outside the kitchen window. Hummingbird's were doing their arial acrobats within minutes. Other visitors were dear and at one time a bear cup running across the driveway with apples in it's mouth. Not sure where mom was. The generator was a blessing when power went out. Would have been a restless four hours otherwise. Interior of the home is outstanding. All bedrooms were cozy and comfortable. The master bedroom is exception with a king-sized bed that my 22 month old granddaughter was thrilled to roll around on and perform faceplants into the pillows. All and all we had a wonderful time and look forward to getting back there some day. I can't end this message without saying how wonderful and sweat the host, Clara, was. Such a pleasure to talk with her.
