Shelter Island, New York
Enjoy a charming 3 bedroom/2 bath with central AC on an expansive shy acre corner plot located directly across from Sylvester Manor Farm. The land across the street is a preserve and the adjacent lot is undeveloped which allows for plenty of relaxation and privacy. An 800 sqft (open plan) great room with two balconies and large windows is perfect for entertaining or lounging with a good book. The rear balcony descends to a gravel patio area with a fire pit, dining area and charcoal BBQ grill. Owners are very reasonable, responsive, and pet friendly!
About the Area: Shelter Island is unique to Long Island's east end because it's only accessible by ferry. Upon arriving in S.I., you truly feel like you are in a different world with vacation mode fully setting in. You may be happy to hear that the island has been dubbed the "un Hamptons" by some because of its low key, relaxed and quiet atmosphere. Shelter Island is home to the 2,100 acre Mashomack Preserve which contains about 10 miles of coastline and represents 1/3 of the island. There you find breathtaking views of fields, creeks, and shoreline. If you are in the mood for an adventure, hop on the north ferry towards Greenport or the south ferry towards Sag Harbor and The Hamptons.

We really enjoyed our stay in this sweet home. Lovely renovated bathrooms and bedrooms, a great fireplace, and a spacious great room made this a very comfortable spot for a quiet family vacation between Christmas and New Year. We loved exploring Shelter Island, Montauk, Sag Harbor, and other area spots. If you are looking for a peaceful spot, this is it - especially in the winter!
Great house with beautiful new bedrooms and bathrooms. Great property. The host was extremely gracious and available. Use of the bikes was a great plus!
This property is a great choice for family of five who need more space than we would get in a hotel, and a perfect location for events on Shelter Island.
Really lovely stay. Bathrooms and bedrooms newly renovated. Andrew was really helpful with the info for the house and local amenities. Great wifi. Great stay.
Andrew’s place was perfect for our little family vacation at the beach.
While staying in Shelter Island before, it was our first time staying here and overall have only amazing things to say! The house itself was very cozy and the fire place was such an amazing touch. Very clean and easy to check in, great communication with owner, and very accurate listing in a great location. Hope to visit again soon, Thank you!!!
This was my first time using VRBO and it was an outstanding experience. Andrew is such a gracious host and homeowner who responded to my questions immediately, whether it was prior to visiting or while we were there. We were extremely happy upon getting to the property. I have to admit, I did struggle with the lock until I figured out how to get the numbers in view, but that was resolved quickly. When we had trouble with the Internet, Andrew responded immediately with solutions. The pictures do not do justice as to how comfortable the beds are when you sleep. Mostly, everything in the home is high end and new. I do agree with others about the couch as we did lose feathers while sitting on it, but it was still very comfortable. The water pressure when showering is low, possibly due to the well system. It was enjoyable sitting on the deck watching the turkeys and deer come through the streets and sometimes onto the property. Tuck, our chocolate lab, needs to run, so we tied up a 100 ft rope, and he had a blast running around the yard. Everyone we met on the streets or in town at Marie Effiel were so pleasant. Hay Beach was a great recommendation from Andrew, and we enjoyed that as well. We did not experience dining out there as we opted to cook at home, but the next time we will try. We always made a point of going to Montauk each year, but after visiting this home, we have found our new go to vacation spot on Shelter Island. For anyone who needs a place to retreat, I would recommend staying at this home. You will not regret your decision. Thank you, Andrew (and your sister,) for a wonderful weekend away from home. We look forward to staying again in the future.
Andrew's place is wonderful. It is a great location, and the house as absolutely everything you need and more. The indoor fireplace and large open-space living and dining room was fabulous. We played Wiffle Ball in the large yard and really enjoyed the private location. We saw many deer and turkey right on the property! We also had easy access to all of Eastern Long Island via the north and south ferries. We made a daytrip to Montauk, and visited a few farms. On the island is a fabulous pizza place, seafood place and bagel spot. We had a great time, and would love to return.
Andrew was a great host. The house was on a beautiful property close to a farm stand which we really enjoyed. Plenty of room for family stay and we had a good time. Our only problem was the couch had loose feathers and the heating ducts were dusty which lead to allergy reactions. Overall a pleasant place to stay. Thank you.
this house...where do i begin!! it is situated perfectly next to the sylvestor manor farm that has walking trails and a farmstand, it's easy biking distance from the beach (and andrew provides bikes), it is beautifully decorated, and is RENOVATED! when we arrived, we were so thrilled to see that the downstairs had been completely renovated, central air had been added, and there is now a second bathroom (with a clawfoot tub!) upstairs. it was the perfect house to spend a month at in shelter island. we will be back!!
