Steve covered everything. I have never been so provided for. Left our creamer at the reunion. No problem, Steve had some there.
Beautiful home in a wonderful setting, right in the middle of the wine trail. Perfect for our girls weekend getaway. Hose was spotless and had everything we needed plus extras (large bowl full of snacks was very much appreciated). Would definitely recommend for anyone looking for a worry free, relaxing stay, we will definitely be back.
We really enjoyed our weekend in Southern Illinois! The house was really nice, clean, and comfortable inside. Loved all the woodwork and decor!! It is in a very peaceful spot and great for star gazing! Steve was a super host! He was very helpful and welcoming. Loved the basket of goodies! I highly recommend this house!! We really enjoyed hiking and eating in Giant City State Park nearby. We also liked the natural bridge, but the Little Grand Canyon was disappointing. We drove about an hour and a half east to The Garden of the Gods which was beautiful and easy to hike, but crowded on a Saturday. We LOVED hiking in the Burden Falls and Jackson Falls area despite very little water flowing. The rock formations were stunning. Several rock climbers were there which was cool. Beware: The signage in the parks and Shawnee Forrest was Not good at all. Glad our husbands had GPS and were good with maps.
Could not be happier with this one! Perfect location and setting, clean, comfortable and very inviting! Was in town for Family Weekend at SIU...perfect location to stay and MUCH better than the local hotel choices. House is about 20 minutes from campus...very picturesque drive. The house was roomy and comfortable and allowed us to stretch out in a peaceful setting. We saw several deer in the evening (counted 10 one night) Close to Giant City State park...another gem...check out the lodge/restaurant for a great meal. Steve (the owner) was very pleasant and helpful...spoke to him before and during our arrival. He even left snacks for us on the dining room table! Will definitely be back!
I loved the house, it was perfect for us. The kitchen was nicely stocked with dishes, pans, utensils, and even a crock pot and blender! The wood floors are beautiful!! There were only two chairs on the front porch, so if you have more than two people and want to spend time sitting on the porch watching the deer, take lawn chairs. Steve, the owner, was very helpful when we had a question about the air conditioner. The yard was nicely maintained. I would definitely recommend this property to my friends. AND, the maps app on my phone took us right there!
Steve gets it. Vacation home renters don't want to run out to the store for things like toilet paper and coffee filters. This is by far one of the best stocked homes we've ever rented and we've been renting vacation homes for nearly 20 years. Enough towels for everyone, detergent for our light loads of laundry, and games galore to wind down our evenings. The property is well maintained and definitely loved. Location couldn't be more convenient to everything you'd want to see, whether it be near (SIU campus, Giant City, Makanda, wine trail) or a short drive away (Spillway, Shawnee National Forest). Roads and scenery were FANTASTIC for our early morning runs. And the icing on the cake, the kids went NUTS over the welcome basket full of goodies. WE'LL BE BACK, FOR SURE!
This property was in a fantastic location. We had easy access to all of the various activities in southern Illinois. It also allowed us to have a relaxing meals at home that we made on the new grill
Our family truly enjoyed our time in your home! First of all, the house was beautiful! We especially loved the wood floors, the large living room with plenty of seating so our family of four could spread out, and especially the comfy beds. There was also a nice movie collection and tons of games for evening entertainment. Our oldest probably spent hours trying to win the maze game with the metal balls! The location itself was awesome. Not one day went by where we did not see a deer. Sometimes we saw 8-10 in one day and often in the field across the street in the evening. Speaking of the field, the kids loved sitting on the front porch, watching the farmers bale hay. That was a real treat. And the lightning bugs! You never see lightning bugs where we live in Florida and our girls had such a blast chasing them around the large yard! The yard had to be about an acre. There was so much room for them to run around and simply be kids. Not only was the house and yard fantastic, but we also found so much to do in the Cobden/Carbondale area. We walked through humungous rock formations at Giant City State Park which was only about ten minutes away. We made a drive down to Garden of the Gods and were completely awestruck by its beauty. Only a few minutes drive away, we had a great time berry picking at a local farm. The blueberries and blackberries were honestly the best we ever had and made for some fabulous cobbler and jam! Antiquing is always on our list when we go on trips and there were plenty of little shops to choose from. Also, Six Flags was only a two and a half hour drive away, so we made a trip there for a day of thrilling rides. There was a park in Carbondale called the Dungeon and Dragon's park that was absolutely phenomenal! The kids played in the large, maze-like castle for hours and the level of detail in the various statues and artwork throughout the grounds was incredible. We loved it so much we visited twice. And of course staying in Illinois afforded us the opportunity of visiting family, most importantly of all. So, in summary, our vacation was one of the best we have ever had and our family truly appreciates the chance to stay at your beautiful home! We would definitely do this again and I will recommend it to our friends and family.
Overall this we really enjoyed our stay, in many respects we really felt at home. The location is great, it is far enough away to be secluded, but close enough to all the stores in Anna an I-57. The home was spacious and had everything we needed, including games, a full kitchen and grill with a nice front porch. Steve the owner was very helpful and provided us with a lot of great suggestions as to where to eat and what wineries to attend. We had a great weekend and this was a great house to enjoy it in.
This wonderful three-bedroom house is in the heart of the Shawnee Hills Wine Trail. It is conveniently located, just off of Route 51, and, is just a short drive to most of the wineries and, to the quaint shops in Cobden and Alto Pass (Be sure to visit the Root Beer Saloon!). Cobden also has a Dollar General, where you can get the things you forgot to pack, and a convenience store where you can get gas. From the outside, the house looks small but, that is deceiving. When you walk in, you will find an open concept floor plan with a lot of elbow room. The house was very clean and appeared to be recently remodeled. The hardwood floors were beautiful! The living room was very comfortable with gorgeous views of the countryside. We even saw a few deer! The owner has provided a variety of DVDs and books. The full kitchen had everything you needed to prepare a meal. The beds were comfortable and the closets, to our surprise, were quite large. The house has 2 bathrooms, the master en suite with a combination tub and shower and the hall bathroom with a shower. There were plenty of high quality linens (towels, washcloths, etc.). The house even had a full-size washer and dryer. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend away and plan to stay at this same house for our next visit! :)
This house nestled within the Southern Illinois Wine Trails was a quiet and peaceful retreat where you will see deer daily in the morning and at dusk, but close to all of the Best Wineries and small town experiences. The inside of the house welcomes you with its parquet hardwood floors and open floor plan, but the best part of the house is the front porch....the view is amazing, just the sound of the birds in the morning and crickets in the evening. Beds were comfortable and the snacks on the table and beverages in the refrigerator were an added touch of Southern hospitality. Don't forget to drive through Cobden and visit the newest brewery Abbey Ridge....a delightful, in the middle of the woods Tap house and restaurant.
