Midway, Kentucky
Holiday House of Midway, Kentucky is a neoclassical southern estate home perched majestically atop a hill overlooking Elkhorn Creek and bordered on the remaining three sides by an esteemed thoroughbred farm.
Notable features of the 2.5-acre property include the 5-bedroom home with two screened porches, wood burning fireplace, wine cellar, dry sauna, steam shower, and home gym; brick paved terrace; stone tiled pool deck with gas-heated swimming pool, in-ground brick fire-pit with seating; grassy lawns and mature trees, including the prized 300+ year old Cinquapin Oak that pre-dates the founding of Lexington. The property is bordered by an impressive Kentucky stone fence and from every window, porch and terrace, you’ll be greeted with views of Margaux Farm’s horse paddocks, where thoroughbreds in training or rehab spend their days grazing and playing. The cheerful sound of whinnying and neighing horses outside makes one want to shut off the phone and music and just enjoy authentic country living!
HOUSE DETAILS: From the front entry, steps lead up to the main floor and down to the lower level. The main floor includes at the front, our “Sunset Room”, a sitting room with west views down to the creek, and at the back of the house, the modern open kitchen, family room and dining room with sliding doors to a screened porch and french doors out to the pool area. In between is a home office, enclosed by french doors and open to the sunset room. Down the hall, there are three bedrooms - a king suite (king bed, ensuite bath with dual vanities, large soaking tub and steam shower), queen suite (queen bed, ensuite bath with tub/shower combo), and a large guest bedroom (two twin beds plus a day bed and trundle, sleeps up to 4). In addition to the two ensuite bathrooms, there is a full bath off the hallway that serves the guest bedroom and as a powder room. Downstairs, two additional guest bedrooms, one with a king and one with a queen bed, share a common bathroom with a tub/shower combo. Also downstairs is the TV room with a leather power recliner sectional, 65” TV, and Bourbon Bar setup; a small home gym with Cybex Arc trainer, free weights, bands and mats; wine cellar and dry sauna; and a laundry room with large washer and dryer.
LOCATION: The property is set in the perfect location for enjoying all the best of the inner-Bluegrass region. Downtown Lexington is a straight shot down Leestown Road, about 20 minutes, and notable attractions such as Keeneland Race Track, the Kentucky Horse Park, Buffalo Trace Distillery and Woodford Reserve Distillery are within a 20-30 minute drive down the breathtakingly beautiful Kentucky scenic byways. Historic and charming downtown Midway is a 5-minute drive and Equus Run Vineyards is just a mile down Moore’s Mill Road - a horse farm and winery, how’s that for neighbors Elkhorn Creek, which forms the west border of the property, is a popular local destination for small mouth bass fishing, fly fishing and whitewater rafting and you will see people park at the end of the driveway to launch their rafts.
Holiday House is truly a special place and we look forward to welcoming groups of couples and mature families, for whom the property is ideally setup to accommodate. Pets and children under 14 are not permitted for safety reasons. The property is not fully fenced and there are thoroughbred horses in paddocks that are enclosed by electric wired wooden fences adjacent to the house on 3 sides.
IMPORTANT NOTES:
- The pool is open seasonally from Memorial Day-Labor Day. If you want to heat the pool, gas usage for the pool heater will be charged separately from your booking costs. The hot tub in photos is currently out of order until further notice.
- This property cannot reasonably accommodate pets of any kind, ESAs or service animals
- There is a security camera that surveils the driveway/parking area that picks up audio. There are no cameras inside the residence or outdoor living areas.
Easy from start to finish. Great property in wonderful setting perfect for our visit to horse country. Will be looking for excuse for return visit soon!
Fantastic setting to immerse yourself in horse racing, bourbon history and tasting. The property is surrounded by Marguax Farm, so you can always see horses out in grass paddocks and the Elkhart Creek runs across the front of the property. There is a winery less than a mile down the rode, could walk there in less than 20 min. There were 8 adults and everyone had plenty of space, we were able to gather for meals, games, and watching tv. Easy access to large hot tub. The house was spotless and beautifully appointed. Chefs kitchen had everything you needed to prepare and serve meals. The 2 upstairs bedrooms had on suite bathrooms, the 2 downstairs bedrooms could share a full bath or there was another full bath on 1st floor in hallway so everyone had there own bathroom. Wonderful screened in porch which we used multiple times. We had a fire each night in the family room fireplace, there was also another large family room with TV downstairs. The home is conveniently located - 20 min to keeneland (south), golf courses nearby, - 20 min to buffalo trace, castle and key, Woodford(west). Town branch and James Pepper distilleries are about 20 min south in Lexington. After touring distilleries in Lexington we went to dinner in town - Giuseppe's (Italian) and Merrick Inn (about 15 min farther). Ate at Heirloom in Midway (6 min away from house). Loved all our dinning choices. Going to and from most places our guidance took us on the most beautiful back roads, lined with trees and got to see so many horse farms. Property manager was very helpful and kept in touch throughout the stay. Asked if we needed anything before our arrival. Truely a memorable getaway! slight drawback for some might be the front steps and entering home you have to go up about 5 to go to first floor or same to go to basement. We did not have any trouble with suitcases or packages but you should know in case someone in your party has trouble navigating stairs.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: We stayed at Holiday House for a quick winter trip and it was such a comfortable and special experience! The house has gorgeous views in every direction and a great layout. You can tell it’s been furnished with love and care. It was super clean and the beds were very comfortable. We enjoyed having a fire and cooking in the well-equipped kitchen. The gym room, steam shower, and sauna were fun to use since it was cold outside! What a unique experience to have complete privacy amidst a gorgeous thoroughbred farm setting. We will definitely stay again if our travels bring us back to the Lexington area!
We had a wonderful time celebrating Thanksgiving/Friendsgiving at the Holiday House. The house was perfect for our 2 families. Wonderful space, beautiful inside and out! Lisa was a joy to work with and we are looking forward to coming back in warmer weather to enjoy the pool and hot tub :)
The pros-This is a nice, large property with a lot of bedrooms. If you have a large group then this property may work for you. The bedding was very comfortable and the rooms were large. There are a lot of accoutrements such as fancy shampoo and conditioners, Q-tips, cotton balls etc which was lovely. They keep lots of wood at the location which comes in handy during the colder months. The cons-The property is cut up a bit with many rooms rather than a large great room. If you want to visit with family and y'all want to be in one living room area, it may be a little tight. Stairs-if you have people with disabilities or aren't very mobile, this location may not work. To get into then house, you must travel up some steep steps to get inside of the house. Once inside the house, you must either go up or down another flight of steps. If you plan on staying at this location and NOT getting out much than being far from everything will not bother you. Or if you are looking for a lovely get away far from the city, than this may be ideal. There is only a McDonalds & Starbucks within a reasonable distance. Also, there are not that many nice restaurants which are close. So plan on traveling if you want a nice restaurant, movies or other things to do. Overall-we enjoyed the property and would return.
This property is nestled into one of the most picturesque landscapes in central Kentucky. Absolutely stunning location surrounded by idyllic horse farms. This property is a peaceful hideaway, spacious and well-appointed with all of the comforts of home, including Aveda products in all the bathrooms and plenty of cooking utensils and pantry supplies to make help meals when you stay in. Check-in was easy, and the owners were in constant contact when we had questions or requests for recommendations. This is an ideal location for a family getaway or a couples retreat for a long weekend. With Keeneland, the Kentucky Horse Park, and the bourbon trail close by, there’s plenty to do and enjoy. Lovely spot.
Beautiful property, well maintained, spacious. Great for couples and/or large family fun.
