Welcome to Residence One at the historic Abeel House. Constructed in the 1850's, the Abeel House has been thoughtfully refreshed to welcome visitors for the first time in its history.
The space
Residence One is a two bedroom, one bathroom space occupying the first two floors of this duplex unit. The first floor has an open-plan with a full kitchen with new appliances, a primary dining area, a comfortable living area, and a cozy nook perfect for reading, entertaining, or dining. The original exposed beams and brick work throughout the first floor provide a connection to the home's long history, while modern upgrades provide the comfort and connectivity needed to enjoy a long stay.

The second floor has two spacious bedrooms, each with a queen bed, multiple windows overlooking Rondout Creek, and dedicated heating and cooling units. The bathroom is accessible via the hallway and the primary bedroom and contains a vintage claw foot tub with shower.
Other things to note
The Abeel House is located next to Rondout Creek and at the base of the Wilbur Bridge. The bridge does still see regular freight train traffic, providing a periodic reminder of Kingston's importance as a transportation hub in early America.

Residence One includes many modern amenities and comforts, while maintaining the property's historical charm.

The Loft on the third floor is available to rent separately and may be occupied. Please contact me for inquiries about booking the entire home.

Here are just a few reasons you do NOT want to stay at this property that should very well be fined, as I'm sure they wouldn't pass inspection. POOR AIR QUALITY-the dehumidifier had to be emptied morning and early evening. TRIP HAZARD and SEVERE ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN-tiles in kitchen cracked with metal sticking up...a lawsuit waiting to happen. LOUD-situated directly underneath a train track and the train runs (at least 6-minutes) throughout the day with the latest one coming through at 3AM. NOT SUITABLE FOR HANDICAP and NASTY CURTAIN-clawfoot tub, with bar and incredibly nasty shower curtain. BUGS/SPIDERS EVERYWHERE-the cobwebs were relentless and dead bugs throughout upon arrival. LOUD OVERHEAD NOISE and CRACKS IN FLOORBOARD-heard every noise from whomever was in the upstairs space. If I could give this place ZERO rating, I would. The owner should seriously consider an air purifier and hiring cleaning crew. Simple things like shower curtain liner and sponges should be changed out after each stay. I am eager to view the inspection report as it could NOT have passed. Habitability Requirements: Properties must meet basic health and safety standards, and landlords are required to address issues promptly.

Overall disappointing. Historic and on creek sounded great. But they forgot to mention that it’s also right under the train bridge which has train traffic all hours of the day and night. And it’s on a busy road so the no shoulder so the vehicle traffic is loud and you can’t walk the dog or walk anywhere safely from the house. We stayed in the 2-bedroom which was the first two floors of a 3 bedroom house. The floors are see-thru boards and we could hear every move the people on the 3rd floor made. The claw-tub bath/shower is balanced on a block of wood. The floors are j even and tiles are coming up but they just threw some rugs over them. The stairs are steep and narrow. There’s no yard (really tough with dog). And the sink in the bathroom spit out brown rusty water the first use of the day. There is nothing on the windows to block the bright street lights that shine straight into the bedrooms, so none of us slept well. I thought it was daylight at 1 am. They’ve put some effort into decorating and maybe they’ve really fixed it up from what it was. But I could not recommend staying here.

Stayed at Abeel for a girls weekend, nice open layout with a kitchen that's got all the stuff we needed. The bedrooms are roomy, and the bathroom has this very cool claw foot tub. The occasional train passing by on the bridge didn't bother us. It was raining on the day we arrived, so we enjoyed the electric fireplace for big part of the day. I honestly don’t understand the bad reviews, the house matched exactly the description above. The house was very clean and everything was working just fine. Also, It's a short drive to some great restaurants and shopping spots and there’s a cute coffee shop close by (walking distance). Super convenient. Host was quick to respond all of our questions and make sure everything was smooth. I will definitely stay at this place again.

This house is not fit for human habitation, let alone making someone pay to sleep here. The moment you walk in you are hit with the overwhelming smell of mildew, and as you walk around it is clear they are aware of the problem and try to cover it with scented candles and diffusers. In addition they are clearly aware of a plumbing problem as they have tubes of fabric in various locations to catch water in the bathroom. When we first arrived at the rental we noticed that one of the ground floor windows was broken with shards of glass still littered on the ground, and when we came back from dinner there was water raining from the ceiling into the kitchen (from the bathroom above though no water was on upstairs). There is a lot of visible evidence of leaking all over the kitchen ceiling, and even some dishes with water in them from previous leaks. As someone with asthma, the pervasive mildew added injury to insult as breathing became difficult pretty quickly. Additionally, the downstairs AC unit doesn’t appear to work despite being brand new. Do not waste your money here.

We stayed here for a weekend while checking out the neighborhood. The apartment is elegant with a farmhouse style. Peaceful and right on the water. Not to mention claw foot tub! Perfect. Stoyan was very helpful and accommodating. Thank you!
