Stayed Aug 10, 2025The house and property were amazing and exactly as described. We had everything we needed for a great stay. Very clean and organized and kid friendly. Plenty of parking for our boats. I would definitely recommend staying at this house and next time I have a fishing trip to VT this will be my first option.

Stayed Oct 18, 2024This house was perfect for a family weekend escape. It was well stocked with everything we might need, including toddler gear and toys. Beautiful location. It was clear the host put a lot of effort into making this place a comfortable stay - would recommend!

Stayed Oct 8, 2024The exterior, lake view, and firepit area were all lovely. The sofas were a bit warn. Kitchen was well equiped. Large dining room provided a large stable table for 8. A smaller table for four had a very wobbly top that could prove dangerous for smaller diners. Bedroom with two queen beds had one very squeeky bed. The closet doors throughout the home were challenging to operate and ultimately several were left off the track. Closets were also loaded with los of supplies and we were challenged to find space to hang our clothes. The owners quickly resolved an issue with toilet paper and paper towels. Front door handle came completely off repeatedly. Indoor fireplace was inoperable.

Stayed Sep 10, 2024Nice location on the lake. House was decent. Had everything you need as far as pots, pans, etc. The view on lake side of house was great, and the porch was great too.

Stayed Aug 11, 2024Five adults, one infant- plenty of room. Lindsay and Justin had everything you could ever need available. Quiet dead end road, but close enough to the town to get out of the house if you want to. With the view, the deck, shaded space, and water we had plenty to do without leaving the house. Nights by the fire pit were fabulous. The bay is stunning. Please note that we brought floats that made time in the lake a blast. Just sit back and relax, Heroes Hideaway is a fantastic destination.

Stayed Jul 28, 2024My family has been renting lake houses for 10 years and have never written a negative review We know things are not perfect we are always ready to make some concessions but this time there were just too many Upon arriving at the house there were 100 geese on the back lawn and lots of goose poop making the lawn unusable Spent the next hour picking it up so we could walk across the lawn without stepping in poop The beach area covered in weeds trash and about 1 foot of lake weeds along the shoreline that smelled horrible We spent more time clearing a path so we could access the water with out stepping in the disgusting weeds Messages with the host asked about swimming, and she responded that the entry was sandy and gradual but did not tell us that there was 3 ft high weeds everywhere in the water Water in front of house is not swimmable While I understand the host does not have control over the lake would have been helpful and honest to let us know about the condition of the lake We used rafts we brought floating far out in the water to be able to swim The grill was filthy with dirty grill utensils Grill was heating realized the grease tray was so filled it was on fire We had to shut the grill down to clean it The deck on the house was nice but the bushes around the deck were overgrown Next came the flies outdoors and indoors Making sitting outside unbearable Positives host was quick to respond The house itself was clean The kitchen was stocked and plenty of towels

Stayed Jun 27, 2024The location/setting is truly spectacular...a long lawn stretching to wide lake views, gorgeous shade trees, a ring of aiderondack chairs around a fire pit, a generous deck with ample seating. The cottage interior is open concept with two distinct sleeping wings: king and two double rooms with shared bath up front and a twin room with bath and it's own foyer and separate entrance in back. To say that Heroes Hideaway is well equipped is an understatement. Whether you are traveling with young kids or like us, a group of women friends on a writing retreat, it's stocked there. The decor is rustic/lake themed. Think wood paneling, very casual, dated, but in a good way--approachable and easy. It's a short walk to Wally's coffee shop/cafe (albeit on a busy road). Perhaps our favorite thing about it was the privacy. It's at the end of a small lane, buffered by a huge hedge, so quiet and tucked away, yet totally accessible to South Hero.

Stayed Jun 17, 2024My family had a really fun mini vacation here. The house and yard were exactly as I expected and the large grassy field was perfect for one of my sons who brought his soccer goal. We all enjoyed the beautiful views and the house was well equipped and comfortable. The owner was very responsive when I had trouble figuring out the keyless entry. I had been hoping for a situation where we could jump off the dock right into the lake. This is way beyond the owner's control, but the water level was low and there was a ton of alge in the water. In order to swim we had to paddle or canoe out quite a bit to get past the algae. I probably should have guessed this could be the case because it is in the bay and not on the main lake, but I wished the property description had given some clues about this. Given it is early in the season and the water is still so cold, I was surprised there was already a healthy amount of algae. I didn't specifically ask about the water level or algae so lesson learned for me! We had a great time once we were out in the water and the kids loved the lily pad. The outside seating areas made the most of the lake views and there is a decent amount of shade in the yard which was so nice on the very sunny days.
