Aloha and welcome Haleakala Cottage, your ideal Maui retreat situated at the beginning of the ROAD TO HANA! Our stunning garden cottage provides a tranquil escape surrounded by the lush greenery and natural beauty of Maui. Whether you're here for an anniversary, baby moon, honeymoon, or even to renew your vows... Star Lookout offers a magical haven away from the stresses of daily life. Immerse yourself in the natural surroundings of the tropical jungle and wake up to the tranquil sounds of nature. With convenient access to grocery stores and dining options just 15-20 minutes away. Haleakala Cottage is the perfect base for exploring the island while also providing a peaceful and rejuvenating retreat.

This little cottage is a perfect home for you on vacation - not a sterile hotel room. (And indeed, our 'jungle' environment will make itself known when you see a gecko on the wall above your kitchen light. Don't let them freak you out - they're called 'mo'o' and actually mean good luck and they are totally harmless).

We live on property, so will be very happy to answer questions about the island etc. Something very different from the usual tourist experience! But please note: WE HAVE NO TV RECEPTION. However, we DO have high speed internet and a smart TV so you can relax after your long stressful day at the beach with Netflix and Amazon Prime video.

Also please note: we don't do maid service. You are always welcome to exchange linens though, and we have a complimentary guest laundry.

Some days, you'll probably simply choose to stay at home - all the facilities to do that are right here, including a beautiful 44 ft free-form swimming pool and, of course, our gorgeous, landscaped organic gardens. Save money - cook in - and enjoy the romance of having your own private Haiku retreat on Maui's wild north shore. We're away from tourist crowds, but close enough to town to find a fabulous restaurant if you don't feel like cooking. Great little 'boutiques, featuring resident artists & jewelers; great local fresh cuisine and farmer's markets. Once you've discovered our side of the island, you won't want to leave.

We provide high quality filtered drinking water and full laundry facilities (soap provided) - all linens provided - and some welcome goodies for you upon arrival.

Your sweet garden cottage is very private, with your own lanais, barbecue and private hot tub. Only the pool is shared with a couple other guests.

Your hosts, Jeff and Sharyn, are very accessible (we love texting!)

Guests have our private cell #s, so if there are any questions/ concerns, we're good about returning messages swiftly!

This region of the island is an outdoor paradise. There are so many things to do in Maui, and all of them can be accessed from our property. You will be minutes away from beaches, jungles, waterfalls, restaurants, and state parks. Everything you need to make the most of a trip to Hawaii.

Here is a list of some of our favorite places nearby:
★Jungle Zipline Maui - HI (7 minutes)
★Twin Falls Maui Waterfall (10 minutes)
★Colleen's at the cannery (19 minutes)
★Freshies Maui Restaurant (27 minutes)
★Pa’ia and Makawao Towns for shopping/dining/beaches (20 minutes)
★Garden of Eden Arboretum & Botanical Garden (30 minutes)
★Ho’okipa Beach Park (23 minutes)
★Haleakalā National Park (1hr 35 minutes)

We're very much a 'local style' neighborhood where people are relaxed, friendly and into the organic lifestyle. ★ Please drive along our small local road very SLOWLY (10 mph or less) as we like to 'blend' into our local neighborhood and be respectful to our neighbors.

We're a jumping off point to our three small local towns - Haiku (15 mins to restaurants & groceries), Paia (a quaint beach town with a modern, fun vibe), and Makawao (a 'paniolo' / cowboy town with a unique Hawaiian flair). Then, of course ... you have golden beaches, giant sea turtle resting places, tide pools, boogie-boarding ... hiking the crater ... exploring the winery, the lavender farm, the goat farm (Surfing Goat Dairy - how cool is that ) ... the famous 'road to Hana' with all its riches ... waterfalls ... bamboo forests ... Maui's beauty will take your breath away. We think it's the most romantic island in the world (and we've lived here for 26 years!

This area is considered Maui’s “North Shore” and is full of lots of boutique shops, restaurants, farmers' markets, and local jewelers. No matter where you wander you are sure to get the full island experience and find something for the whole family.

No public transit here - you'll need to rent a car to explore Maui

No resort fees, free WIFI, free laundry and most importantly, lots of Aloha!

-We don't do daily maid service, but will happily supply you with fresh linens or cleaning supplies.

-We make the security and privacy of our guests a priority and as such request that OUR ACCOMMODATIONS ARE FOR REGISTERED GUESTS ONLY.

Another note - we're a SMOKE FREE PROPERTY.

-We request that you please please please shower off all sunscreens/body lotions etc before using our hot tubs or pool! Also, please do NOT use any scents or soaps in the tubs as this will necessitate a complete draining of the tub, replacement of filters etc and you would be charged $100 from your security deposit. Also please rinse off after the beach as it's no fun vacuuming sand out of our hot tubs!

Also note - we're a 'green' accommodation - organic and sustainable, so you're doing yourselves and our planet a favor when you stay with us! (But that also means you might see an occasional ant or gecko!)

Also note: WE DO NOT HAVE CABLE, but we do HIGH SPEED INTERNET so you can stream Netflix, Amazon video, etc on your smart TV. We're an ideal home base if you need / want to plan a 'working' vacation, and need to conduct business calls from your place.

Absolutely perfect retreat! Away from everything in this exquisitely landscaped property, like staying in a botanical garden. The hot tub surrounded by lush greenery! The walkways, viewpoint and coast access!! I never knew I needed an indoor/outdoor bathroom with garden, so open and lovely, hard to explain but oddly freeing! Arrived to a beautifully appointed cottage with fresh eggs from chickens on property, fruit and other great, local essentials, place settings arranged, flowers everywhere! Loved feeding the chickens and the stroll to the coast walk, such beauty and thorough care taken by owners and team. You can tell they truly care about this place and their guests. Best for those wanting quiet, remote retreat as it is tucked away on the Hana highway and therefore not the most convenient if beach or busy agenda planned (but not impossible as we went everywhere!). I felt very serene there, awed by the surrounding beauty. Looking forward to returning someday, mahalo!

This property was so breathtakingly beautiful and secluded. My husband and I stayed here together and the privacy of the cottage allowed for such a romantic get away. The hosts were so amazing and so kind they truly made us feel so welcomed and special. We really hope to come stay at this incredible place again in the future.

This beautiful cottage is hidden away from all the noise. If you’re looking for peace and the sounds of nature, this is it. This cottage is located off Hana Highway, a perfect place to stay if you’re going to do the drive, you’ll want to back track two miles to hit the Twin Falls. The directions to find the cottage are very clear, and you get to take a beautiful scenic drive down a local neighborhood in Hana. We received a beautiful Hawaiian welcome, with flowers and candles decorating the inside. We couldn’t have had a better welcome. There were amazing snacks and goodies provided to us, including bread, wine, delicious coffee, fruit, and chocolate. It’s also easy to wake up early with the sun, the chickens help with that, and they are great little compost machines so if you have any leftover food or takeout, they have you covered. They also are very diligent about recycling and garbage processes (which we love!), and don’t be fooled by the black cat. He is not starving, our hosts let us know his name is Flash and he likes to come and visit. Also, you may end up with some gecko friends, they love to hang out in the bathroom and outdoor shower. A note, if you’re uncomfortable driving winding roads at night, make sure you plan ahead. We felt very at ease, but our frequent trips in the evening left us seeing a lot of Hana Highway stragglers struggling to get off the highway at night. Remember to let locals pass! The hottub and back patio were a great way to wind down the night.

The grounds were really pretty, the cottage we stayed at was small and could use some basic updating. Everything seemed a little worn out or run down. The overall place is on a lot with 3 other cottages/houses. Felt mostly private. The pool was pretty cold to us, colder than the beaches we visited. Very secluded to anything you would want to see or do or eat. Minimum drive time to really anywhere is about 20 minutes. The showers are outside so we were happy we showered one day early before it rained all late afternoon and evening. I thought the bed was comfy, my partner did not. We did not feel the value was worth the money and would not stay here again. Overall I would give it 3.5 stars.

My partner and I recently stayed at Haleakalā Cottage for 3 very comfortable nights. We loved the seclusion of the property and the thoughtful touches, such as fresh eggs, bread, coffee, the list could go on. Easy parking space. Make sure you catch the sunrise on the cliff! You won’t be disappointed :)

Nice small bungalow with everything you need for your stay. Coffee, spices, bottle of wine and kits of little extras. Had a small barbecue, just need to bring your own briquettes. Property managers were super responsive and provided everything needed. Including chairs and boogie boards for the beach. Audio on the road to Hana. Works stay here again

Mahalo to the hosts! We had a great time at the Haleakala Cottage. House was decorated with fresh local fruit and flowers when we arrived. Hosts personally helped out with Wifi troubles within minutes of notification. Outdoor shower and hot tub were very relaxing! Location is a bit out of the way and off-road, so we recommend getting a Jeep if you're renting a car. 10/10 would stay again!

We stayed at Haleakala Cottage on the second portion of our 10 day trip to Maui. We wanted to be close to road to Hana and it was that and more. Such a peaceful place with wonderful comfort touches, from the bed, extra pillows, towel warmer, private hot tub and garden, fresh flowers through cottage and treats waiting for us in refrigerator. The host was amazing with a special medical request I had and we loved the short walk to the coast to watch the sunrise. Highly recommend!
