Crawfordville, Florida
Looking for a place to relax and truly get away from it all Welcome to Wakulla Beach! Located 3 miles down a dirt road, this coastal cottage is tucked deep inside the St. Mark's National Wildlife Refuge. The surrounding wilderness ensures clear skies, dark nights, and peaceful solitude.
Unobstructed views of the Gulf allows for quiet relaxation on the large screened porch. French doors in the living room and bedrooms ensure that all rooms enjoy the view of the bay. If star gazing and a good book sounds like an ideal quiet night, you will be right at home!
Our cottage is almost 100 years old and it is tiny! We have a clawfoot tub with a hand-held shower attachment. We have central AC/heat and ceiling fans in the bedrooms. We do not have a dishwasher or cable TV. We do have a TV antenna, which gives great access to basic channels. We also have satellite internet (Starlink) that can be used on our smart tv with your favorite apps.
Our house is the epitome of the real Florida. It's quaint and rustic, with a great view! We are surrounded by the St. Marks wildlife refuge, which has 83,000 acres of conservation land. This means there's a host of animals nearby, but we're also a bit off the grid. Cell service can be spotty, there's no cable access, and we're on well water, which in our area is salty. We do provide purified drinking water for our guests.
Wakulla Beach is a short 5-10 minute walk away.
Strictly a non-smoking property.
NOTE - Our home employs a Nest doorbell for security.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage over the Christmas holidays. The front porch was our primary hang out location, watching the marsh and the Gulf. After a particularly heavy rain and high tide we were able to observe egrets, herons, otters and deer on and around the property. Wakulla Beach (more of a boat launch) is a short walk away. The house itself is very well furnished with provided filtered water and comfortable bedrooms and really nice older furniture, just a relaxing place to be We cooked several meals there and found everything we needed in the kitchen. Internet and TV worked as expected for nightly movies. The road going out is a bit rough but we made it in a Honda Civic and the worst place on the road was repaired within a day, just take your time if you're not in a large truck. Danielle was very helpful when we had questions. We look forward to another visit here.
This place would be a dream house if the water system was better and if the entrance gate area was above water in heavy rain. It is a fine house, beautifully furnished and well equipped. But the nonpotable salty water was a surprise, and wading through 2 of water to our car several times was unpleasant.
The place was exactly as described. Clean and cozy. The beds were really comfy! The view was really cool too!
Beautiful place and extremely private. I was visited by numerous birds, a bear, hog and alligator. It was amazing. I will be back.
Great property! A wonderful way to experience a little bit of “Old Florida.” The housekeeping was excellent and owners have done a great job of making the cottage very comfortable and were very responsive. We will definitely be back!
This place was amazing and beautifully decorated with antiques. Our dog enjoyed the fully fenced yard and we loved the back porch that overlooked the marsh and bay. The bedrooms had French doors that opened to the porch where we rose to the sunset. We were looking for a relaxing and peaceful couple of days and it was exactly what we had expected. Would return for another trip.
Staying at Wakulla Beach was an absolutely extraordinary experience – one of my favorite vacation rental experiences, via any platform, anywhere, ever. Danielle, to begin with, was a phenomenal and gracious host. She checked in with us multiple times before our arrival to make sure we had everything we needed. and was immanently reachable. All the instructions for the property were totally clear, and available both digitally and in a handbook onsite. A long-time friend and I were road-tripping along the gulf-coast – I'd never seen this part of the country before; I'm from the desert. So imagine the absolute wonder of driving along a bayou road at dusk to a secluded, jungle-like beach that we functionally had all to ourselves. Absolutely wondrous. The house itself contributed to the atmosphere – cosy, rustic, but absolutely clean and modern inside with all the necessities. I felt like we were in a movie. It fulfilled precisely the fantasy we'd imagined of kicking back with some beers and bratwursts, listening to the cicadas as the sun sank below the horizon (this was after we'd gone wading along the beach, watching crabs burrow, in the gorgeous, golden-hour spring air). The beds were delightfully comfortable, and the interior is decorated with antiques and lovely atmospheric touches. But every modern necessity is provided for, right down to a bluetooth speaker (resembling an old-timey radio!) so we could put on some relaxing tunes. I even truly enjoyed the salty shower water – I felt like I was at a spa – and of course an ice-cold fresh water cooler is provided. We had no problem cooking, washing up, or getting online, even though we felt like we were deep in the bayou on the edge of nowhere. An absolutely magical time. This began as just a stop on a road trip, but I would literally consider traveling back to this area just to vacation at this place. Stay here, especially if this is the vibe you're seeking. You won't be disappointed.
Lovely, comfortable property with a wonderful screened porch overlooking the marsh and the bay. This is our third visit and we always enjoy ourselves and appreciate the break from urban life.
quiet, peaceful and comfortable home and the host was very responsive and flexible. the screened porch is basically where we spent our time, highly recommended.
Always wanted to stay down in this area, it’s the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. We did a fishing charter the first day and caught plenty of trout and redfish for our dinners. The house is wonderful inside but the screened in porch tops it all. Short walk to the beach and great stars every night.
We had an amazing time in this awesome little slice of old Florida. The cottage is wonderful, that back porch is where we spent most of out time. What a perfect escape. The kitchen is so well equipped and enjoyed relaxing and preparing dinner in. We loved our stay and so did our little dog Dilly, she really enjoyed the fenced in yard too.
Amazing experience and the host was awesome!! If debating trust me you will not regret. Tallahassee is not too far away but the local cities are we’re it is at. St marks is not too far either. Home was beautiful can not ever beat it and clean. Thank you so much!
We selected this beach/marsh house because it is just like the beach houses from years ago on Sullivans Island and Edisto Island, SC that are long gone. The porch, the sunsets, and the stars are worth the trip. Very relaxing and enjoyed being unplugged!
We loved it! We wanted peace and quiet and got it! Enjoyed the old Florida charm of the house and especially enjoyed watching the wildlife and weather of the coastal marsh. We visited the local state parks and national wildlife refuge nearby. We hope to stay again in the cooler months and hike some of the nearby Florida Trail. Thank you for a delightful stay!
If you like a remote location, which I do, this is a great stay.
The stay was relaxing and quiet. Wakulla county is a beautiful place as well as Wakulla Beach. Thank you for sharing your home.
Fantastic place and host. We will rent this place again. Beautiful view of the water and so close to Wakulla beach.
Our third time. The view is always incredible with no neighbors in sight. The woods around are what old Florida used to look like. Love the old house and the history around the area. Danielle & Josh are great hosts! Hope to stay again soon.
Our family of four enjoyed a relaxing weekend at this old school Florida Beach house. The view was one of the best we have had and the quiet and solitude at night was great. This is nothing fancy but has everything you need and if is solitude and off the beaten path are your things than, you will love to stay here.
This house is super charming with lots of history. It's location is remote but very easily accessible and a short drive to Tallahassee. We stayed for my son's graduation from FSU, and it was so relaxing to sit on the porch on look out at the ocean and all the amazing wild life. We were close to parks and rivers for kayaking as well as the beach. The owner was extremely helpful and went out of her way to help me retrieve a bag that I left at the house. The communication was excellent. I would highly recommend this peaceful retreat for a respit from the daily grind or for a visit to FSU!
Comfortable accomodations in an out of the way spot with a gorgeous view of salt marshes and the gulf. Down a dirt road but it doesn't take long to get to surrounding attractions. Just a short walk to Wakulla beach, which is not so impressive at high tide but is spectacular at low, be sure to visit it then! Host very responsive.
