Nestled in the remote jungle of Huelo, our private Cliff House is a couple's retreat dream! Perfect for honeymooners or vow renewal, this spot is stunning and private with views of the ocean and Hanehoi Waterfall. Guests can expect everything they need for a romantic stay on Maui: private garden, pool, hot tub, kitchen, and outdoor shower. Come rest, relax, and rejuvenate with a special Hawai'i vacation in the lush jungles of paradise.

The Cliff House is situated on the edge of the valley overlooking the ocean and thirty miles of untouched coastline stretching all the way to Hana.

Exterior features include:

- Hot tub overlooking the Hawaiian coastline and jungle
- Private tropical garden
- Private emerald-tiled pool in a lush tropical setting
- Beautiful outdoor garden shower tucked into the natural surroundings
- Poolside dining and barbecue area

Interior features include:
- Kingsize bed in the center of the house beneath a large skylight. This serves as both a lounge area during the day and a comfortable sleeping spot beneath the stars at night
- Javanese marble floors and walls, with teakwood beam ceilings
- Standard kitchen (minus oven - we provide two induction burners and a convection oven)
- Outdoor shower surrounded by a garden of red ginger (Please note: This is the only shower for this accommodation, no indoor shower)

Guests have private access to the Cliff House and its' amenities. You also have access to our 8-acre property and its eco-retreat facilities which include the large saltwater pool, hot tub overlooking the ocean, community kitchen, dining areas, and organic garden farm.

Office is open Mon - Sun from 9am - 5pm. We also provide an after-hours phone if you need anything outside these hours. Upon your booking, we provide you with a Welcome Booklet that includes local recommendations and anything else you may be wondering about before and during your stay.

Note: Please keep in mind, our center is a rustic compound in the middle of the jungle. We have dehumidifiers and air purifiers in every room. We are centered in a tropical rainforest with many weird and wonderful insect species. We only use natural pesticides and cleaning chemicals on the property. As a result, we occasionally have more animal visitors. Jungle critters such as geckos may creep into your room. Please rest assured, this is not a housekeeping issue, but rather the privilege of living in this magical jungle home. We are in their natural habitat, so we will not refund any portion of your stay for these house guests.

The price listed includes cleaning fees and extra coffee, tea, and cream if needed in the room.

This is not your typical hotel experience. The Cliff House is 20 mins away from Ha'iku town. We do not have a restaurant or chef on staff and recommend picking up groceries before checking in. We do not have beach access.

{ABOUT HALE AKUA}

Hale Akua Garden Farm & Eco-Retreat Center is an agricultural and wellness education and retreat center located in Haʻikū, Maui.

Nestled in a magical and idyllic setting, Hale Akua is thoughtfully designed to provide a natural, supportive environment for groups, families, couples, and individuals to learn, relax, and restore well-being while immersing themselves in an eco-educational experience in Hawaii. Hale Akua offers farm-based and wellness education and experiential learning, accommodations, and organic and seasonal produce from our land.

Accommodations are available for those seeking overnight lodging with an intention of an immersive education and experiential learning experience about farm and wellness. Hale Akua provides agricultural and wellness classes and retreats, as well as serving as a learning center for leadership development programs for visitors, students and local community.

Farm workshops are offered in organic farming practices, sustainable land management, biodiversity and ecosystem awareness, permaculture design, regenerative agriculture, composting, aquaponics, soil health and conservation, alternative energy, and ecology. The retreat center also offers programs covering a range of Native Hawaiian cultural practices, including but not limited to ho‘oponopono, lomi lomi massage, and mālama ʻāina. Additional offerings include communication training, meditation, and personal development programs. Furthermore, wellness classes and workshops such as yoga, breathwork, and meditation, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle practices are also offered weekly or monthly.

The mission of Hale Akua Garden Farm & Eco-Retreat Center is to provide a beautiful and nurturing environment for experiential learning, healing, rejuvenation, personal growth, and inner peace for all its visitors and students.

Our office is open Mon - Sun from 9am - 5pm. We also provide an after-hours phone if you need anything outside these hours.

The solar electric system at Hale Akua currently consists of 200 solar panels, 12 inverters, and 24 solar batteries. Our founder, Lori Grace, has invested in this system to prevent unnecessary contributions to climate change. This solar electric system will add another two days of electricity, provided there has been an adequate amount of sunlight charge before an electrical outage. We also have 10 Eco-Flow batteries (3kw electricity per room) which can add two to three days of electricity if needed. Learning to live on limited electricity is a wonderful and necessary education for our current climate situation. We would like for all our guests to learn to work together with our staff in these situations.
Large hotels here on Maui that experience an electrical failure do not provide backup power, nor do they offer refunds. As we do not feel responsible for Hawaiian Electric’s failures, there will be an opportunity for education rather than a refund if we have an outage, and our staff will assist you the best they can.

This place was truly special. I don't know if I have ever been somewhere so beautiful. Unfortunately the wind was pretty bad while we were there, so the hot tub/patio overlooking the cliff was almost unusable. The small pool was very chilly. We used the community pool and hot tub/sauna and it was lovely. Keep in mind the pool house bedroom is quite loud with jungle sounds at night (which is good and bad). The outdoor shower was fun, but it was very not private when it comes to other members of your group seeing you from the kitchen and the little outdoor pool. Overall we really enjoyed our stay.

We very much enjoyed our time at the Cliff House. This property is beautiful. The lanai overlooks a deep valley with views of the ocean and a waterfall. There are chairs and also a nice hot tub there to enjoy the view. The main house is quite comfortable and well decorated. Our teenage daughters enjoyed the private pool and slept in the gazebo house. The gardens at the cliff house and property or beautiful - like you’re staying in a botanic garden. The property is secluded and quiet. It’s about 20 min to the town of Paia and is on the road to Hana. I highly recommend this property to anyone wanting a unique experience on Maui.

Gorgeous location and view. House was built in the 80's and is somewhat dysfunctional in interior design layout. Location is fairly remote and ideal for visitors that don't want to be bothered.

Our stay at the Cliff House was wonderful. The property is so beautiful, peaceful, and private. You really have your own, private compound when you stay here! The view of the ocean, sunrise, and waterfall out front are breathtaking. The apt. itself is well appointed with a very comfortable bed and fully-stocked kitchen. The grounds of the entire eco retreat are lovely, and staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome and give us an impromptu tour of the organic farm. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a unique, relaxing place to stay, surrounded by nature. A couple of things to be aware of: (1) there is no stove and no oven, but there are 2 electric, convection burners for cooking that worked well; (2) the water had a moldy smell, so we only used bottled water for cooking and drinking. There is a water cooler in the apt.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay here while celebrating our 5 year wedding anniversary. The pictures do not do it justice! It is even more beautiful and peaceful in person. One could not ask for a more amazing view and setting. Would go back!
