The region

Dunster is a medieval village on the edge of Exmoor National Park in West Somerset, dominated by its magnificent castle perched on a wooded hilltop above the High Street.

Often described as one of the most intact medieval villages in England, Dunster has a rich history stretching back over a thousand years. The iconic octagonal Yarn Market, built in the early 1600s, sits at the heart of the village -- a reminder of its prosperous wool-trading past. The broad High Street is lined with independent shops, galleries, tea rooms, and characterful pubs, many housed in listed buildings dating from the 15th and 16th centuries.

The village has its own Post Office with a cash machine, a deli, and a good range of places to eat and drink. For larger supermarkets, banks, and petrol stations, the coastal town of Minehead is just 1.5 miles away -- Tesco and Morrisons are both on the outskirts with long opening hours. Most shops in Dunster keep traditional hours of 9am to 5pm, often extending in summer.

Dunster hosts a lively programme of events throughout the year, including the Dunster Show, Dunster Country Fair, and the much-loved Winter Festival in early December when the village is lit by candlelight with music, dancing, and medieval re-enactments in the streets.

Great location. Well equipped cottage, but not as cosy and comfortable as we expected. We felt it was a little under maintained and tired. In need of some TLC. Although the kitchen was well equipped, many thing’s didn’t match, some of the pans and crockery needed replacing. Very dark and drab.

Lovely cosy little cottage in a beautiful location! The kitchen was well equipped (we knocked up a roast dinner for four) and the beds are super comfy! Pretty views across the churchyard and plenty of dog walks straight from the door. We LOVED the woodburner. Great value for money, will be back!

Cottage was lovely and clean. 2 minute walk onto the high street. Close to all amenities. Kitchen well stocked. Didn't use the shared garden, but courtyard is very small, wasn't suitable for our dog, but could be for others.

The cottage was very cosy, comfortable and traditional and we enjoyed relaxing there after walks in the very beautiful surrounding area. It was very nice to have the teabags and biscuits on arrival. Thank you.

Ruffles cottage was ideally placed centrally to the village although just tucked around the corner so most of the time it was very quiet. One thing to bear in mind is that you are very close to the church. The bells of the church are quite loud and go on through the night. We don't mind this but some people may have an issue with this. The cottage is so warm and cosy and having a small back yard would help with the Summer months as you could keep the back door open for a nice breeze.

Beautiful location backing on to the church in the lovely village of Dunster. The cottage is fine for 2 people - small, lived in, but cosy. Well equipped kitchen. Great to have a bath as well as a shower. Street parking outside only.

The bar in Luttrell Arms is most welcoming and the food we had was excellent. The Castle and grounds is a must.

An excellent cottage in a convenient location in a pleasant town. The only drawback being the difficulty in finding a parking space, especially at weekend s.
