Casa Sossegada is a charming private cottage with its own totally private pool and stunning views across the garden to the lake and countryside beyond. It is within our 23 acre garden which you are free to roam. Our house is not visible from the privacy of the cottage. For cooler winter nights snuggle up by the log burning stove. There are many books, games, CD's, English and Portugese TV and CD player. Internet - ask owner for the code.
The property complies with the requirements ofthe Alojamento Local licence. Registration number 82315/AL
The wider garden is a conservation area providing traditional natural habitat for the regions birds and animals. You have complete freedom there climbing the natural paths (you will need proper shoes or trainers to do this). Go to the trig point on the garden's boundary - the highest point for miles. There are seats around so rest a while and take in the magnificent views or if you prefer try a gentle walk around the lake. Watch the swallows swòoping down to feed. Many other birds visit including the colourful bee eaters and the local azure winged magpies, hoopoes and herons. Fish if you like! The fishing is good with excellent carp and wide mouthed bass. The lake is not polluted in any way and the fish are in fine condition. The fish must be carefully handled and gently returned to the lake.
Spring brings carpets of wild flowers and the nights have starry skies unspoilt by light pollution. Look out for the stunning milky way and shooting stars. Not to mention the sunrise over our lake and often quite amazing sunsets - sit on the back terrace to enjoy the best sunset views. Turn left out of the gates and explore the many paths through the forest and beyond.
This is a rural paradise yet within approx 10 - 15 mins by car you access a good supermarket next to a pizza/pasta cafe, medical / dental facilities, pharmacy, petrol station and other shops. Five mins further on brings you into Ourique with cafe bars, banks, restaurants, optician, garage and shops. There is a good view point near to the local Camera i.e Town Hall, with excellent views of the whole area. Roads to the Algarve or the west coast if you fancy a change are good and generally quiet. It is about one hour by car to either without rushing.
The area is a bird watchers haven with over 45 different species in and around the garden dependant upon season including the booted eagle, crested lark, oriel, hoopoe, jay, montagues harrier, woodchat shrike, and the regions very own azure winged magpie. There are lists of birds visitors have put up on the little board in the cottage. Over 85 species on the land and surrounding area.
We can sort out your washing if you wish. The laundry room is available if you wish to use it but we are happy to do any washing for you - after all you are on holiday! The cottage is very well equipped but just ask if you need anything -- you'll find us if you want us but never intrusive. It is your private holiday - ENJOY YOURSELVES!!

We found Casa Sossegada to be a brilliant place to stay. Exceptionally clean and with good facilities. The location was even better than it appears as advertised, delightfully rural and with a great mix of created garden and natural scrub. A perfect place to relax if you wish to get away from it all. It was great for nature and even though we visited in October, there were still plenty of birds around the grounds and the lake in particular. The approach road was fine if driven sensibly. Vicki was an excellent host, contactable if needed, very helpful and quite charismatic. We are looking to revisit.

We spent two weeks here in July / August with our kids (7 and 6). It is al totally amazing, secluded cottage in the middle of nature. The house is clean and well maintained and has everything you need to relax and enjoy yourself, a well equipped kitchen, a choice of seating outside (follow the sun or the shade) and beautiful grounds to wander in. We loved the pool, we swam for hours and spent the evenings enjoying the breeze on the terrace, listening to frogs and watching shooting stars. Communication with Vicky, the host was brilliant, she was so kind and helpful, as was Joaquim who takes care of the property. Ourique is an easy going, locals town with good food at Lobo, as well as a very good supermarket. We loved the laid back wild west coast beaches at Malhao and Vila Nova de Milfontes, about an hour's drive away. We're pretty sure we'll be back!

We spent 3 nights and it was amazing. The flowers were in bloom everywhere, the cottage was cozy and quaint, and while too cold temperature wise to use the pool it was open and available if we wanted to go in.The directions from Vicky were straightforward and easy to follow. The road in has some potholes but totally fine for any sized car and typical of any rural road. You're only 15-20 minutes from Ourique which has grocery stores, shops, and many different restaurants. The views on the property are stunning every way you look. If you get the chance to talk with Vicky, do it. She's lived an incredible life and was wonderful to talk with. If you like being in a rural remote area rather than a hotel this place is for you. We would definitely go back again and highly recommend you stay here.

Apart from the diffculty in finding the place (poor roads and pouring rain) we discovered a true haven of peace and beauty. A lovely cottage, well equipped and very comfortable in every respect. We would certainly like to return one day.

What an amazing find it was, Victorias place is simply beautiful, the cottage, the pool, the grounds, the whole 11 days of our stay was just so lovely we truly didn’t want to leave. We had all the privacy we wanted, Vicki said unless you need me you won’t see me and she did exactly that, We got on so well with her we went out for dinner, she’s such an amazingly interested lady, we had planned to go and explore more of Portugal but we ended up going out once as we just loved the place so much you don’t want to leave, We will 100% come back and stay again, The area it’s situated in is just so peaceful, so many amazing views, we walked around the grounds up to the trig point which is definitely a must, the view up there is beautiful, you can see all the way to sera d espinnaco d cao and sera de monchique. The cottage is exactly how it’s described too, clean, homely and exactly how it looks in the photos, Thankyou again Vickie we loved our stay and meeting you as well Joy & Roger

Our third stay here as a family of four (an 11 year old and a 7 year old). We just love this villa and its idyllic location. It is in a perfect location where you can sit back and relax amongst the best nature has to offer. We love the house and of course the private pool which offered endless fun for our two young boys. Shops are close and the Algarve is only an hour or so away. We spent two days at the water park, a day at the beach and the rest relaxing and soaking up the location. Vicky the owner can not do enough for you and is only next door if you need anything. She is from England herself and such a nice lady, very easy to get on with. Simply wonderful! We will be back.

Swimming pool was lovely and we had a lot of fun. Victoria was very welcoming and helpful and Joaquim was very helpful, loved visits from the family dog too. It’s a very special place.

This is a great place to relax and unwind. The house was extremely clean and comfortable. In a remote part of the countryside with shops about twenty minutes drive away. The pool was great and felt very private.

We had a perfect stay. Very friendly host, easy check-in and check-out. The cottage is well equipped and very comfortable. It was very clean. Wifi worked excellent. Highlight is the private pool. If you love a relaxed atmosphere you are right here. You can find nice paths near the cottage. It is very quiet. We can recommend this accommodation and loved to stay here.

We booked this cottage as a last minute holiday & having narrowed the choices down, chose this property purely & simply from the amazing reviews. We thought 62 people couldn't be wrong - and they weren't! Having been sent very precise directions, it is an easy 1hr 30 min drive from Faro airport. The nearest small town with a couple of supermarkets, several good restaurants and bars is a 15 minute drive down a country lane where you are far more likely to meet a sheep than another car. The very traditional cottage is delightful and had everything we needed and due to its construction was very cool inside, despite the heat outside. The pool area which is slightly away from the house is perfect and neither the pool or the cottage are overlooked at all. 3 separate seating areas around the cottage means you can choose to sit in the shade or not to admire the stunning views across the owners land and hear nothing but birdsong during the day and a cricket/frog chorus at night. The communication with Vicky the English owner who lives further up the path was excellent from the start and we felt as if we knew her even before we got there! Vicky is a lovely host and there if you need her .There to chat only if you want to and we really enjoyed her company. I'm sure we will return in the future. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful, relaxing holiday- this really is a little slice of Paradise.

Quiet and remote stay with a good pool. Lovely countryside with lots of storks! Not many restaurants or attractions nearby but a great place to switch off and unwind with plenty of empty tracks/unpaved roads to walk on.
