Cute, cozy, updated cottage just steps from gorgeous Houghton Lake

Cute, clean property. Perfect for a short stay!

We had a wonderful stay at this cottage. Exactly as described. Super clean and cozy. We hope to stay again in the future.

We booked 6 months ahead to be in town for a baseball tournament. Reviews were good but when we arrived we were suprised to find something else. I wish I had read more recent reviews before we arrived as I would have cancelled when I learned about the mouse droppings. (Which remain in the cupboards.) The outside was dirty, the furniture and door had not been wiped down. Inside smelled strongly of cleaning agents so we were hopeful, but the appliances were filthy. The handle and front of the refrigerator and microwave were gross. The inside of the fridge had food spills, stains, and other people’s food. While the sheets appeared clean, the blankets and pillows were stained and yellowed and had a musty odor. The bathroom had a broken shower head and the sink filled with dirty water and facial hair when the water was run. The ceiling fans were covered in so much dust we could not use them, and my son was congested from the dust. We attempted to reach the owner using VRBO and the information provided in the guest book, with no response. We were fortunate to get a room at a nearby hotel. We attempted to reach the owners all weekend with no response. The property was not delivered as represented and it is unprofessional not to respond to a guest.

The cottage has a convenient lakeside location, likely ideal for guests with a boat. The interior was clean and cozy, with comfortable beds, plenty of towels and linens, and reliable WiFi. We especially appreciated how well-stocked it was for a short stay. The living room was a nice spot to relax, and we were glad to have a fold-out sofa—even if it could have used a bit more attention from the cleaners.As expected with a lake cottage in the off-season, we came across some mouse droppings in cabinets, drawers, and the sofa bed. Not a big deal, but worth noting—and the owners were very responsive and apologetic when we let them know. The kitchen table is small, so it felt a bit tight for our family of four when dining indoors. Also, be prepared for bright morning sun in the bedrooms—bring a sleep mask if you're sensitive to light.The property is centrally located and just a short drive from great hiking, but it’s situated on a very busy road with no sidewalk, so use caution if you plan to walk or bike.

Nice place. Furnished with dishes, commodities and appliances. Small but one bedroom away from the rest which suited the infant nicely.Host was responsive and pleasant. Perfect location.

Absolutely beautiful property! Everything inside makes you feel like you're on lake time. The host thought of everything, and there's nothing that could have made this trip more cozy or enjoyable. Highly recommend!!

I have been staying at Houghton Lake for 1 week my entire life. This was the cleanest unit that I ever rented. Quaint little cabin updated enough to keep me comfortable.

We had business in Houghton Lake. The owner went above and beyond to work with us, giving us a lovely place to stay over a month. Such a nice guy to work with. Highly recommend

Staying in winter is great if you want to see the lake partially frozen, but one bedroom is virtually unusable due to the cold and distance from the heater. Be aware when booking. Kitchen was well stocked for cooking, and the house made for a great place to stay! I loved being right on the lake.
