Glan Wye is a perfect example of a two-storey converted barn, in Cwmdauddwr, Rhayader, situated on the edge of the owner’s Glan Elan Farm. It is within walking distance from the town and boasts an unobstructed secluded private view of Rhayader, in an idyllic location overlooking the gateway to the Elan and Claerwen Valley Reservoirs, known to tourists as the Welsh Lakes. Visitors are welcome to use the rights of way on the farm if they wish to do so, and for those seeking peace and tranquillity together with enjoying the countryside, can while away many hours with a pair of binoculars soaking up the stunning scenery, during April to June you may well hear the call of the cuckoo. To assist with preparing and packing for your stay, why not do your shopping online beforehand which can be delivered to suit your arrival time.

The location of Glan Wye offers with ease a wealth of things to see and do whilst on holiday - from beaches, cinemas, indoor/outdoor activities, a cycle track, renowned nature reserves, historic houses and gardens, interesting coastal and inland towns and villages, shopping - whatever your interest, you won’t be short of ways to fill your days.

Rhayader, situated 700ft above sea level in the Upper Wye Valley, sheltered by the Cambrian Mountains in the very heart of Wales, is the first town on the River Wye, renowned as the canoeing capital of Europe. It has a leisure centre with pool, livestock market, shops and a choice of pubs and restaurants that should suit anyone’s taste! Rhayader is also home to the Welsh Kite Feeding Centre and the Rhayader ‘Pump Track Wales’, which is thought to be the largest split track in the UK to date. The track, designed by Arran Cartwright, has been constructed by the company responsible for the London 2012 Olympic BMX racetrack.

From the Visitors’ Centre in the Elan Valley there is an annual programme of events organised for those wishing to take part. The Elan Valley is known for its spectacular beauty and the magnificent reservoirs created by the Victorian engineers, some 100 years ago, which now supply water to the city of Birmingham. This location is truly a walkers and cyclists haven, and from the doorstep of the property this area can be explored, starting with the cycle track constructed in 2000 from the disused railway line that serviced the construction of the dams (maps are available from the Visitors’ Centre marking the varying length and terrain).

Fishing, horse riding and golfing can all be found locally. Town and village life are still vibrant with carnivals, shows, festivals and Christmas festivities all playing an important part in the yearly calendar. The property is within an easy drive of the Royal Welsh Showground, which together with hosting the Society’s three events, also hires out the showground accommodating a variety of events throughout the year. In Cilmery, you can see the Memorial to Llywelyn ap Gruffudd, Prince of Wales. Other attractions include Devils Bridge, first built by monks in the 11th century and from where you can take the Vale of Rheidol steam train that meanders through the valley to the seaside town of Aberystwyth. Here you can visit the National Library of Wales and the Aberystwyth Arts Centre which is considered one of the best in Wales outside Cardiff. Shops ½ mile and pub 1 mile.

Central heating £30 per week and £20 per short break payable September to May.

Glan Wye proved to be the perfect cottage for our stay in the Elan Valley. Very comfortable and spacious. We loved being able to sit and watch the red kites from the lounge, only criticism there would be, take a few feet off the hedge and you would have the perfect view over the surrounding area but still have privacy. We found the welcome at the Triangle Inn great, food so good we ate there three times. We also ate at The Crown (also good but felt a bit rushed and not such nice atmosphere) and The Lamb and Flag (not our kind of food or pub)

Great location, well equipped property. Furniture a little tired and 4ft.6in bed too small. Mid Wales is stunning and there was many sights to see, for all age groups. Definitely return if there was a bigger bed. Review independently collected and verified by Reevoo

We have just had a week at Glan Wye- 4 adults and one happy dog. Lovely homely cottage, warm cosy and well equipped. Owners very nice and couldn't have been more helpful. Perfect location for walking and exploring the beautiful Elan Valley. Wonderful view from the terrace. Take bird seed and nuts and you will be amazed the variety of birds that arrive. Short walk to the local pub, The Triangle, and food good. It was a great week and we will be back - Jean, Paul, Manya and Mike
