This log cabin and guest cottage sit on a lovely, grassy bench on 21 acres at the base of Emigrant Peak (elevation 10,960). The views from the cabins are stunning and the cabins themselves are comfortable and cozy, filled with books and interesting collectibles.
The two-bedroom log cabin has a full bath, a hide-a-bed, a fully-equipped kitchen, a TV/VCR/DVD, satellite TV, wireless internet, and a stereo. It's available for rent by itself. The two-bedroom guest cottage has two full baths. It has no kitchen facilities, and so is available only with the log cabin (the two buildings are never rented to separate parties).
The property borders vast public land; the hiking from the property is excellent. The cabins are located midway between Yellowstone Park and Livingston, Montana in the Paradise Valley. The Yellowstone River, Chico Hot Springs Resort, and the Absaroka-Beartooth Wilderness are close by.
Wildlife seen from the cabins includes: bears, elk, deer, wolves, bobcats, foxes, eagles, hawks, bluebirds, and cranes. Hummingbirds enjoy the porch feeder.
The cabins are available and enjoyable for most of the year. Both cabins have central heat. There's also a wood stove in the living room of the log cabin and a cute gas fireplace in the bedroom. The climate from late spring through early fall is usually temperate, although mornings and evenings can be cool. Fall and spring can bring winter conditions which can fluctuate widely, with temperatures ranging from well below zero to well above freezing.
The log cabin has a washer, dryer, and unique outside clothesline.
For recreation, the log cabin has satellite TV, Wi-Fi and a stereo with CD player. It also has a library of fiction, non-fiction and naturalist reference as well as various board games. Outside there is a rustic basketball hoop and a maintained horseshoe pit. There is a camp fire pit available when wildfire danger is not too high. A gas grill is always available. The property has direct hiking and horse access to millions of acres of public land.
This place is amazing! Well stocked, extremely organized, clean! You have thought of everything to make our stay enjoyable. Thanks for a great experience!
We loved our stay at this beautiful rustic mountain cabin. Amazing views, we saw deer daily and elk in the mountains a few times. Hummingbirds visited often as we soaked up the Montana vibes. Secluded yet close to Yellowstone with privacy. Chuck really has everything you need here for a great stay. My wife and I didn't want to leave. We highly recommend this cabin!
The first time driving up to the cabin was surreal: the vastness of the land, the majesty of the mountains, the grandness of the sky - it literally takes your breath away! The cabin is charming and rustic - well appointed with plenty of books, good music and even a trunk full of Legos! The extra place on the property is very cool - great for a few families or couples. We drove into Yellowstone everyday. The distance is easy - 20ish minutes - and the drive is beautiful. Chuck was responsive, kind and made us feel right at home.
The views are breath taking. Love the property and the hiking that was available without having to get in the car. Everything was clean and well thought out. We had a very relaxing time. Enjoyed all the decor from the past. Reminded me of things that my grandparents had in their homes. Thank you Chuck for being such a great host!
Chuck's property was utterly amazing. I cannot recommend this place enough. The views are breathtaking. It felt like we were in a painting. The cabin was perfect. It was very cozy and had everything we needed. We enjoyed every second of being there and cannot wait to come back.
We stayed at the cabins for three nights. It's about a 40 minute drive north from Gardnier, MT. The cabins were clean and had everything we needed. It was nice having 4 bedrooms. The main cabin has one bathroom and the second cabin has two bathrooms (one for each bedroom). The bathroom sinks did have hot and cold faucets, so you couldn't get hot and cold water together through one faucet. That was not an issue for us because we are easy going and the place was great for what we wanted. The two bedrooms in the main house are on opposite ends of the house. The stove/ oven could be replaced. They were pretty hot and burned a lot of our food but we made it work. He does have a note on it saying they run hot, listen to him. The beds were a little hard and not as comfortable as we would have liked. Overall, we had a great stay.
This was our 2nd stay and we loved it every bit as much as the 1st time. As we sat on the porch soaking up the last few minutes before we had to leave, my wife and I agreed we feel more at home here than our own home (sometimes, we do have kids, lol). We'll be back!
this place was great! Chuck was a great host, helpful, communicative, and honest! The place was almost exactly as he had described... the only difference was that it was even better then we could have hoped!! It was charming and fun, filled with books and rocks and good music! The kitchen was really well appointed, the cabin was very clean, and Chuck's sense of humor and practicality was everywhere-- please don't stay here tho, we want it for ourselves!
We have visited this cabin a few times now and love it more each stay. We are Montana natives that love to travel to other areas of Montana for family vacations and this is one of our favorite areas and favorite places to stay.
Such a nice cabin with incredible views off the beaten path. Clean and stocked with anything you’ll need.
If you are longing for peace and quiet in a fantastic setting this is your place. The rustic cabin - complete with screened porch and picnic table - is made for relaxing family time or just being alone. The two extra beds and baths in the outer cabin were a perfect addition for our family. Absolutely beautiful views and the sunrise/sunsets were amazing.
This cabin is the perfect place for a family getaway. The property is breathtaking, like looking at a painting. The house is incredibly well stocked. The kitchen has everything you could possibly need, including a help yourself shelf of unused/unopened items. Chuck was very easy to communicate with and his drirections to the house were easy to follow. The house is a short drive to Livingston, as well as Gardiner/the north entrance to Yellowstone (when it is open). There is a doggy daycare nearby if you need care for your furry friend while you visit the park. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to return soon!!
Incredible views and a perfect cabin for a family . Owner supplied absolutely everything you need. I will surely be back. Thank you for a perfect vacation!
We loved the location and also enjoyed the vintage vibe of the cabins. Would have wished for bigger beds and newer towels. Otherwise wonderful spot and great value. Chuck was also helpful with suggestions during the recent flood.
The view of Emigrant Peak is just amazing. Cabins are rustic and decorated to fit the location. But there are still all the comforts of home. Close to Yellowstone, even closer to Chico Hot Springs. Chuck was awesome!
Chuck is an awesome host , the property is a lovely place to unplugged from buzz and hassles of the city , so quite and serene
Very smooth process. Thanks for the additional maps, bear spray, and first aid kits available. Awesome seeing the elk and deer every morning and evening! Absolutely beautiful view of the snow capped mountains!
What a gorgeous, perfectly appointed place. The location at the foot of Emigrant Peak is stunning at all times of day, and you also get to enjoy 360-degree mountain views, lots of wildlife like deer and elk, and great little hikes from the property. We loved the peace and quiet and felt so relaxed while we were here, the property had everything we needed and more. We also appreciated the proximity to Yellowstone National Park. This cabin was a perfect place to come home to at the end of the day, and a cozy spot to hunker down when weather comes through the mountains. Chuck was a great host, and I will absolutely be back again to this spot as a home base for my landscape/wildlife photography. We had a tough time getting to the property in snow with our little Prius, so we recommend bringing a vehicle with more clearance, and ideally with AWD/4WD, especially with unpredictable mountain weather!
