The Phat One
El Gordo sleeps 8 in 3 bedrooms, has a hot tub, a fireplace, and all the amenities. We call it El Gordo. The name’s a play on words. El Gordo in Spanish means the fat one. Also, my father in-law’s nickname is “Gordo”, and he has always really liked this location for a cabin. Plus, the place is pretty “phat” …or so the kids tell me. Like our other cabins, EL Gordo is tucked into the woods well away from the stresses of every day life.

Stayed May 31, 2026This cabin was perfect for our family and we will be coming back should we return to West Virginia, which will definitely will. The surroundings were exactly what we were looking for. This is one of several cabins but El Gordo was separated from the others enough that you couldn’t see the other cabins, so nice and private. The grounds are very well maintained by the owners and their employees, not by some faceless property management company. The cabin was clean, had everything we needed, and plenty of room. The location is excellent if you are there for the bridge or are planning on spending time in the National Park. There are lots of other amenities nearby and every person we encountered was very friendly. This is a great spot run by good people, the kind of place you are happy to pay for. It was exactly what we needed.

Stayed Aug 7, 2025Third year in a row we have stayed in this cabin. This has turned into a yearly family weekend of rafting, hiking, outdoor fun and the cabin is a big part of it!! Property is amazing, and the hot tub after a tiring day of adventure is icing on the cake!

Stayed Jul 11, 2025Very nice and secluded. We enjoyed the spaciousness of the cabin for 5 adults, a 7 year old and an 8 month old (who learned to climb the stairs to the loft while there!). The cookies and complimentary glasses were a nice surprise.

Stayed Jul 2, 2025El Gordo has many positives. It is in a great location, very private but still close to New River Gorge area and activities. We really enjoyed the hot tub and screened in porch area! The house is clean and met our needs but the design is very small and basic. The bathrooms are tiny but water pressure and temperature in the shower was great! The main living area is also small with a small sectional as the only comfy furniture in the place. It was fine for us (family of 4) because we were there to explore and didn't spend a lot of time in the cabin. The owners were very responsive and made sure that we had what we needed for our stay.

We fit 6 adults without issue, the hot tub was a great way to end every day, and the firewood from the central stall burned well.
