Enjoy all that a lakefront summer has to offer in this cozy cabin! This rustic original log cabin, is situated directly on beautiful Lake Champlain, on the New York side, with captivating views of both the lake and the mountains. You can enjoy the peace and quiet of the lake and the Point Au Fer Circle, or rev up your vacation with fun activities such as: swimming, fishing, boating, golfing, biking or hiking, to name a few.

Our cabin offers guests a wonderful opportunity to vacationon Lake Champlain. The lake setting with blue waters and the majestic mountain scenery is breathtaking. The location of this cabin is unique, it is situated on a peninsula with rich history. For many years, Point au Fer wasn’t where people lived, but where they fought. The small peninsula, the former battleground for American and British soldiers, is nestled along Lake Champlain on the eastern side of the town of Champlain that currently contains under 100 residents, mainly summer homes. Many of the families living on the road are third generation summer residents. Everyone is friendly and the peaceful nature of the area makes you feel as if you have stepped back in time. Enjoy a quiet walk around the two mile circle and you will see an abundance of wildlife and pretty flowers. It is the perfect place for children to ride their bikes and play in the large yard. After a nice walk your family will enjoy a dip in the cool clean waters of the lake. The rocky bottom keeps the water very clear and also makes water shoes a must. You'll be in awe the moment you arrive! The days are long, warm and lazy, inviting you to kick back as you relax surrounded by the natural beauty of the land and water!

HOME FEATURES:

Inside the cabin you will feel totally relaxed, it is warm and very clean. This seasonal camp is set on a beautiful tree filled lot with 90 feet of lake front property. It is decorated nicely for a very pleasant stay. The open concept living room, dining room and kitchen, offers cozy furnishings for relaxation, as you take in the breath-taking views outside. Outside on the front lawn facing the lake is a fire pit perfect for evening fires and roasting marshmallows, so be sure to bring fire wood.

KITCHEN /DINING

The kitchen has been remodeled, it is small but well stocked with all the kitchenware you'll need to dine in. But if you're like us in the summer, most meals will be cooked on the grill outside. The kitchen has the usual stove, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, crock pot, and blender (smoothies for the kids and frozen concoctions for the adults!). The water comes from the lake and is safe for everything but drinking, so bring bottled water for personal consumption. The dining room table can be extended to seat eight with beautiful views of the lake while you eat. There is also an outside dining table that seats six.

FAMILY GATHERING AREAS:

The living room with the opened loft above feels large and airy. It has comfortable leather furniture for relaxing, and a fire place, creating a calm and romantic ambiance. There are plenty of windows to enjoy the lake front view. A charming sitting area by the windows makes the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee or curl up with a good book. Open the windows to let in a gentle breeze and you will want to spend hours just relaxing listening to the waves lapping the shore and staring at the beauty of nature.

BEDROOMS / BATHROOMS

The master bedroom, has a comfy king-size bed and plenty of room for a portable crib. The first guest bedroom, has a queen-size bed and the loft has a full-size bed. The full bathroom has a shower. The water is pumped from the lake, so the water pressure is a bit slow, but still enables a refreshing shower.

PRIVATE BEACH:

Take a few steps down the path to the private beach for a dip in the pristine lake. It is a bit steep so use the rocks on the side for balance. When walking in the water hold on to the dock as the rocks are slippery. Perhaps, you will enjoy casting your fishing line in one of the best fisheries in the nation, Lake Champlain of course! Water sports are big here on the lake. You can bring your own boat. The Great Chazy River Boat landing, where you can launch your boat, is a short distance away on Route 9B. If the lake is rough you can put your kayaks in and paddle or fish in the river. There are two sit on top kayaks in the garage. We have one child and three adult bikes, you can bring extra bicycles and enjoy a ride along the quiet back roads of Rouses Point and Champlain, where you'll find a variety of beautiful wild flowers, colorful birds, picturesque farms, and other pleasurable scenery.

ACVTIVITIES:

If adventure is what you are looking for, you can take a drive across the border to Montreal, Canada. The historic area of Montreal, known as Old Montreal, offers rich culture and beautiful architecture (about a 55 minute drive from the home). While you are in Canada, take advantage of the shopping and excellent dinning. Don't forget your passport.

Another great city to visit is Burlington, Vermont. A trip to the Church Street Marketplace is a fantastic way to spend a day shopping, dinning or just People Watching. You will definitely want to experience the charm and culture of this unique city. Plan an evening strolling along the streets of Burlington, listening to free entertainment. Make sure you stop at the famous Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Shop for a treat. There are some unique micro-breweries you may find interesting as well! Not far from the marketplace, is the Burlington Waterfront Park. It is only a short walk to see the gorgeous view of Lake Champlain! It's best to catch the evening sunset over the glistening water and the mountains. You will definitely want to snap a few photographs for your vacation album.

The ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center is both educational and fun for all ages. Next to the aquarium is Vermont's largest floating restaurant and cruise ship. Eat a great meal and enjoy a scenic narrated cruise, for a rich history lesson. There are many wonderful shops and restaurants along the water too, so enjoy! The travel time to to Burlington is only 45 minutes from the house.
There are many other attractions to see as well, like the famous Vermont Teddy Bear Company, Cabot Cheese Factory, the Vermont Statehouse, the Shelburne Museum and Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream factory.

The New York State side of Lake Champlain in Rouses Point is full of historical landmarks like Fort Montgomery. Fort Montgomery is the scene of a fierce Revolutionary War battle for control of the Hudson River, it is not opened, just a drive by. Entering into Rouses Point you will find a quaint little village, with a few shops, a trendy Lakeside Coffee Shop, Frenchie’s Restaurant, a wine/ liquor store, a laundry mat , and more. The Amtrak Railway station is also located in Rouses Point.

Lake Champlain also has lighthouses: Isle La Motte Light House, Windmill Point Light House, and the Burlington Breakwater North Lighthouse. If you like mountain hiking, you've come to the right place. Vermont and New York are loaded with interesting trails and unique day trips, including Lake Placid, a former host of The Winter Olympics.

Golfers will appreciate a day of sunshine and greenery at The North Country Golf Course. Have some lunch after a round of golf at the Links on the Lake restaurant. North Country Golf Club is an 18 hole Championship Golf Course in Rouses Point, NY. The facility features a 4ooo square foot clubhouse with full golf services offered daily.

Church services are not easily forgotten when you take the short drive to St. Anne's Shrine in Isle La Motte. The shrine is a historical site where the French erected a Fort and Chapel on Isle La Motte. Saturday and Sunday services are held in the open church. There is a restaurant for breakfast on Sunday. If you go on a Saturday evening make a plan to catch the majestic sunset before you leave!

Grab some lawn chairs and kick back to listen to some of the local area bands who play music at The Rouses Point Samuel de Champlain Center Stage. Concerts at the 39 Lake St. venue are held at various nights, check online for details. There is a concession stand set up by Sandy's Deli, so take a break and enjoy a free evening of fun. Concerts are held inside when it rains.

There are plenty of local restaurants across the lake in Vermont that serve delicious meals. In North Hero there is Shore Acres Inn, & the North Hero House. South Hero is home to the Blue Paddle Bistro. Ruthcliff Lodge is located in Isle La Motte, and the Ransome Bay Inn is located in Alburgh. Each of these is a beautiful drive that can be followed by a stroll along the water's edge to view the brilliant sunsets!

The cottage was beautiful. The lake was perfect for swimming but the rocks are treacherous. Bring a pillow. Theirs aren't great. Beware of bugs and mice in late July. Kitchen well appointed. No laundry on site.

We really enjoyed our stay in this cottage on the amazing Lake Champlain! The cottage was very clean. Kitchen equipped well. The location is right on the lake, very relaxing. Quiet neighborhood. Communication with Mary was great! It was good to forget for a week about big city. I would stay there again.

When I saw the pictures of the cabin I thought it was really cute. The owners let us come and check it out before we booked, as my husband has mobility issues. The cabin (and the owners) FAR exceeded my expectations. The cabin is warm, inviting, comfortable, and just adorable. The backyard and fire pit just says sit here and enjoy the view. The water was clean, warm, and just awesome to float out by the docks. There is plenty of room to have friends over for dinner and a float. Quiet neighbourhood with very nice neighbours. We would go back again every year.

Absolute unbelievable stay Mary and spouse We’re arguably the best hosts we’ve ever had highly recommend this place on the shores of Lake Champlain. They are continuing to improve just had the kitchen remodelled and a personal small craft ramp installed before our stay. We will absolutely be staying again.

We had an awesome stay. It was a last minute trip for us, and we couldn't be happier with the choice we made. The owners communication was great, the place was exactly as described and the views were stunning. Would highly recommend this place to anyone.

The cabin is rustic as listed and has everything one would need. The kitchen was stocked and the cabin was clean. The views around the lake were beautiful to look at in this very quiet neighborhood. We arrived on a Tuesday and noticed the tap water was brown. The owner, Mary, had told me a few days before checkin that a plumber would be there before we arrived - she was having a problem with the water pressure. It was supposedly all fixed. There was no mention of brown water. When I called her she said it might be caused if the lake was rough and it should settle down. It wasn't particularly windy or rough, but it remained brown the whole time we were there (except when there was NO water). We had planned on staying until Sunday but unfortunately by Friday we had no water at all. At this point, while walking all around the property trying to troubleshoot for her, Mary informed me that she had been having a lot of water problems and had changed the pump and everything over the past year but she couldn't quite get to the bottom of the problems. She was unable to get a plumber to come until sometime the next day and suggested that we might be able to go down to the lake and get buckets of water to flush the toilet. There are absolutely no lights outside and the walk down to the lake involves a very sizable and rocky decline, with remnants of docks strewn amongst the rocks for good measure. Navigating this in the dark to fetch water, in addition to the tons of mosquitoes that are active after dark, would be crazy. Not only did we have our children with us but also my parents who are senior citizens. With no water, no toilets, and no clear idea when anyone might be available to even evaluate the problem - much less fix it- we were faced with a tough decision. We realized we had no choice but to literally drop everything and pack the car to leave in the dark right at the time we were supposed to be putting our kids to bed, and frankly we were tired after a long day. Based on my conversations with Mary, it sounds like there was/is a known , ongoing problem with the water, that's been not fully resolved for the past year. It was a major disappointment to end like this. This was our first vacation since Covid, maybe longer, and we would not have chosen to go here if we had known about the water.
