Lutz is a community of about 20,000 people in Hillsborough County in the state of Florida. It covers a total area of about 27 square miles, of which slightly less than 10 percent is water. The unincorporated census-designated place (CDP) is made up of 16 neighborhoods and is considered part of the Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater metropolitan area.

 

The history of Lutz goes back to the building of a small depot in the vicinity along the Tampa Northern Railroad. The area around the depot was named for W. P. Lutz, who was said to have contributed in ensuring that the railroad is extended to the community. The name was made official when a post office of the same name was approved by the United States Postal Service. The number of residents grew as more and more people moved there from Tampa.

 

A replica of the depot that led to the creation of the town can be found at the crossroads of U.S. Highway 41 and Lutz-Lake Fern Rd. The section of the community, which is referred to as the “Beautiful Downtown Lutz,” also features a public library.

 

The area considered as Lutz often extends beyond its immediate limits. Several zip codes extending beyond Hillsborough County to unincorporated areas in southern Pasco County are commonly considered part of the unincorporated CDP. The entire area described by the zip codes 33548, 33549, 33558 and 33554 are described as Pasco Lutz by locals. Lutz, which had more than 6,500 housing units as of 2010, is one of most sought-after communities for real estate in Georgia, especially by families. A significant number of homes here are owners-occupied, single-family units. As of 2014, the number of resident stood at 20,184.

 

Lutz boasts many well-educated residents, very well above the state and national averages. Around 40 percent of those living here are estimated to possess at least a Bachelor’s degree. The unemployment rate in an area where most people work in sales and management occupations is lower than the national average. Public schools in the area include Lutz Elementary School, Maniscalco Elementary School, Buchanan Middle School, Walker Middle school, Gaither High School and Steinbrenner High School.  These are managed by the Hillsborough and Pasco County Public Schools.

 

With many families calling Lutz home, it is no doubt a great place for those looking for somewhere ideal to move their families. About 60 percent of the residents are married. It gives both parents and children great opportunities to mix with others in similar groups. A large number of college-educated adults and a reliable public school district may serve to encourage young people in the pursuit of knowledge beneficial to the society. Many family-oriented services are provided in Lutz, which has one of the lowest crime rates in the nation.

 

This community has virtually everything a family could desire, from low crime rate to well-educated neighbors. The residents are diverse in composition. Lutz boasts a high number of owner-occupied family homes, which may be taken as a guarantee of stability. The area has a pleasant winter climate and striking downtown areas.
