Since then, his career has taken him around the world tasting, exploring and experiencing the flavors of both hemispheres. Macquet has honed his skills in locations as diverse as South Africa, London, Southeast Asia and Beverly Hills. He has cooked aboard the legendary ocean liner Queen Elizabeth II, at the James Beard Foundation, at the White House (2x) and at the U.S. Embassy in Paris. One of Macquet’s highest honors and favorite memories was cooking Nelson Mandela’s first meal outside South African prison walls.brAfter his extensive travels, the chef chose New Orleans as the perfect stage for his ongoing culinary celebration. Following an award-winning stint as executive chef at the Bistro at the Maison de Ville, Macquet opened the eponymous “Dominique’s” at the Maison Dupuis hotel in the French Quarter which was named the “Best New Restaurant in the United States” by Esquire Magazine. There he began the process of returning to his culinary roots. Due to the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina, Macquet temporarily relocated to Houston opening “Dominque’s” at the Marriott Westchase, receiving high accolades from multiple Texas publications. brUpon returning to New Orleans, the first “Dominique’s on Magazine” was born. It was here that Macquet’s innovative combination of island flavors with the precision of French technique truly came to fruition. As his new namesake restaurant, “Dominique’s” again was named the “Best New Restaurant in the United States” by Esquire Magazine; also was named “Best New Restaurant” from New Orleans Magazine; received four stars from City Business; and a glowing Four Bean review from Brett Anderson of the Times-Picayune. In late 2011, he also opened “Tamarind,” a French-Vietnamese restaurant within the renovated Hotel Modern on Lee Circle. With all this success, the search began for a larger location – leading the chef to open the new “Dominique’s on Magazine” in the summer of 2012. New Orleans Magazine named it “Restaurant of the year.” brWith co-author John DeMers, Macquet has published two successful cookbooks, “Dominique’s Fresh Flavors: Cooking with Latitude in New Orleans” (Ten Speed Press) and “Tropical Latitudes” (Bright Sky Press). He explains that while he sometimes thinks of his cooking as “Tropical French,” others call it simply “latitude,” perfectly summing up the around-the-globe approach Macquet brings to every dish on the menu.brMacquet’s latest venture, Bordeaux, was an ambitious project to develop an upscale indoor/outdoor venue with elegant al fresco dining. The concept features a farm to table menu including the freshest crudo, ceviche and grilled fish, and boasts an exotic imported French rotisserie. It is doubtful that any other restaurant in the country can match Bordeaux’s offering of four to five different rotissiere meats simultaneously on the menu for each and every dinner service, e.g. pheasant, guinea fowl, Maple Leaf Duck, imported French Poulet Rouge organic chicken; suckling pig, spring lamb, and artisanal farm raised Mississippi Goat.br

Historic 5BR Marigny home with arcade room & patio. Walk to Frenchmen, minutes to the French Quarter

New Orleans, Louisiana, United States

Welcome to your group’s Marigny retreat steps from Frenchmen Street:brbr- Sleeps 10 | 5 bedrooms | 5 beds | 3 bathsbr- Game room w/ arcade classics & giant Connect 4br- Chef’s kitchen & spacious dining areabr- Private backyard deck w/ outdoor seatingbr- In-unit laundry, Smart TVs & fast internetbrbrYou’ll have total privacy throughout your stay, but I’m always just a message away if you need anything. From Frenchmen Street tips to festival guidance, dining recommendations, or booking tours, I’m happy to act as your personal NOLA concierge.brbr★ Fantastic host, quick replies and incredible recommendations.brbrThe French Quarter is New Orleans’ oldest and most expensive neighborhood, but homeowners who seek its densely urban layout, historic appeal, and walkability can find those same attributes in the neighboring Marigny Triangle. In some ways, the Marigny Triangle is superior to the French Quarter: sandwiched between the Vieux Carre and the trending Bywater, it enjoys proximity to amenities in both neighborhoods. This home is ideally located only a short distance to numerous New Orleans landmarks, including The Spotted Cat Music Club (0.7 Miles), Jackson Square (1.1 Miles), JAMNOLA (1.0 Miles), and Caesar's Superdome/Smoothie King Center (2.5 Miles). brbrFaubourg MarignybrbrResidents of the Faubourg (an ancient French term for suburb) Marigny are very proud of their neighborhood...and who can blame them brbrHere in this small wedge of real estate located just downriver from the French Quarter, you'll find everything that makes New Orleans a uniquely wonderful place. The jazz clubs lining Frenchmen Street are world-famous, and every night you can hear big-name acts jamming with the hippest stars of tomorrow. The Marigny is home to some of the city's trendiest restaurants: places where new chefs constantly reinvent the city's cuisine. Neighborhood galleries and antique stories offer gems for every pocketbook, from museum-quality art to thrift-shop chic. And the area's eclectic late Georgian, Creole, and Greek Revival houses nestle closely together, forming a fascinating and varied cityscape.brbrThe Marigny's boundaries as defined by the City Planning Commission are: North Rampart Street and St. Claude Avenue to the north, Franklin Avenue to the east, the Mississippi River to the south and Esplanade Avenue to the west.brbrThe Marigny was laid out in the first decade of the 19th century by eccentric Creole millionaire developer Bernard Xavier Philippe de Marigny de Mandeville on land that had been his family plantation, just downriver from the old city limits of New Orleans. The portion of the Marigny closer to the river was built up first; the area on the side of St. Claude Avenue (formerly Goodchildren Street) away from the river was sometimes called New Marigny.brbrElysian Fields Avenue, named after the Champs-Élysées in Paris, was designed to be the main street of the Faubourg Marigny. It was the first street in New Orleans to extend all the way from the riverfront straight to Lake Pontchartrain, 8 km (5 miles) away. From 1830-31, the Pontchartrain Railroad was built, with tracks running down the center of Elysian Fields. The area at the other end of the rail line developed into Milneburg. Marigny's town square, Washington Square, fronts Elysian Fields.brbrThe neighborhood declined in the mid-20th century but came back strong in the late 20th century. After profiteering centered around the 1984 World's Fair drove many long-term residents from the French Quarter into the Marigny. Frenchmen Street soon developed the city's premier collection of live music venues and restaurants, and is a popular destination for both locals and knowledgeable out-of-towners.brIf you have any questions about the neighborhood, please send us a message!brbrbrYou will have full access to:brbr • 5 bedroomsbr • 3 full bathsbr • Fully equipped kitchenbr • Dining room + lounge areasbr • Game roombr • Laundry areabr • Back patio + outdoor seatingbrbr★ Huge house, everyone had space to spread out and relax.brbrGather your group for an unforgettable stay in the heart of Marigny, where historic charm meets modern comfort.
