It is divided in two by the River Looe - East Looe (Cornish: Logh, meaning deep water inlet) and West Looe (Cornish: Porthbyhan, meaning little cove), which are connected by a bridge.brbrThe town centres around a small harbour and along the steep-sided valley of the River Looe which flows between East and West Looe to the sea beside a sandy beach. Off shore to the west, opposite the stonier Hannafore Beach, lies the idyllic St George's Island, otherwise known as Looe Island.brbrEast Looe centres on its broad sandy beach, with the distinctive Banjo Pier (the creation of Joseph Thomas, who lived at The Old Vicarage), a new lifeboat station and St Mary's Church. Stretching back from the church is a grid of narrow streets forming the main business area of the town, packed with many small shops, restaurants and pubs. Along the estuary lies the quay with its fish merchants. Towards Looe Bridge lies the Victorian Guildhall (which is now a museum), and just north of the bridge the railway station. However, the extra height gained is worth it! There is also a very accessible back entrance leading onto a tarmacked footpath that to the right leads down a short steep slope into the centre of West Looe where there are several shops and cafes, and a grocery shop and delicatessen. To the left out of the building a very much gentler path leads into a quiet road to take you to where there is free parking on the roadside.brbrThe centre of West Looe with its delightful harbour, shops, restaurants, and quaint olde pubs including the Jolly Sailor Inn reputedly the oldest in Looe are only a two minute walk with busier East Looe, accessible during the season by passenger ferry or by a charming ten minute walk via historic Looe bridge. There is also a characterful seaside café next to tennis courts. Going further west will take you onto the lovely coastal path to Polperro via Talland where there is also a beach café.brbrHarbourside was converted from the former Bodrigan Hotel in 2005 into 12 luxury apartments each with their own private entrance with number 11 being a penthouse/loft apartment.brbrAs much as we love children, the flat is not recommended for very young children due to the balcony. brbrPlease note that the flat is strictly for non smoking guests only. And sorry no petsbrbrWe do also have two single sit on Kayaks available in West Looe (one Ocean Frenzy and one Feel Free Nomad).
