Durhamhill Coach House - llamas, games room/mini cinema, sidecar & fun

Castle Douglas, Kirkcudbrightshire, United Kingdom

Stay in the lap of luxury, with panoramic views to the Galloway hills, & have fun in any weather. The Coach House at Durhamhill is a tardis with 6 bedrooms, 6 bath/shower rooms and 2 large open-plan kitchen/sitting rooms. The huge oak dining table seats up to 16 guests for a feast. There’s a separate games building for rowdy tournaments, which converts to a cosy cinema for wine, woodburner & popcorn. Llama walking, egg collecting & motorbike sidecar trips on request. brbrGalloway is the 'Highlands in miniature' with castles, hills, woodland, lochs, rivers and great beaches and coves, all still undiscovered by mass tourism. There's a great range of wildlife to spot:- red squirrels, otters, hedgehogs, badgers, roe deer, birds of prey and much more.brbrThe house is an eco-friendly conversion, bathed in natural light and warmth, with the llama field to the rear and open views to the front. The two large open-plan rooms have comfortable seats and woodburners as well as the underfloor heating. Guests can relax here, undisturbed, for the whole holiday, or else go out to explore the countryside from the doorstep or take a short drive to the shoreline. Outdoor adventures beckon. The 7-stanes mountain bike trails are nearby, there are great golf courses and Loch Ken Activity Centre provides hilarious activities. Otherwise you can have a peaceful swim, canoe or paddle-board and Alan can provide information on fishing permits. For more local fun there's room at the Coach House for a tug o' war or a 3-legged race, just whatever you can think of. Anyone enthusiastic is welcome to help feed the llamas and take one for a walk or to feed the hens and collect fresh eggs, and we can arrange motorcycle sidecar trips (depends on the weather) or a musical jamming session next door.brbrFor rainy days (which occasionally happen here) the Cocoa Bean Chocolate Factory with a soft play area is great for children. The large games building here at Durhamhill is great for everyone. It has a pool table, table tennis, small air hockey table, chess and table football and it can convert to a cosy cinema, snuggling up on the sofas and bean bags with the woodburner blazing, to watch a good film with a glass of wine and warm freshly-popped popcorn. The garden is in several sections with a fantastic stone horseshoe seating area, high up behind the house, to soak up the Galloway sunshine and the stunning view. There's a stone barbecue (requires charcoal). There's a shed where bicycles/other equipment can be stored and the washing machine and dryer are here. The games room / cinema is versatile and can be used for residential yoga courses, craft groups, music groups etc.brIt’s 2.5 miles to the Inn on the Loch, with superb food, and the Laurie Arms in the Haugh of Urr is 3.5 miles away, with its cosy ambiance and delicious pub food. Castle Douglas, the food town, with its many independent shops and 2 supermarkets is just 5 miles away.brbrRooms are as follows :-brbrRoom 1 - ensuite room - twin or superkingsized bed (downstairs, wheelchair access)brRoom 2- ensuite room - kingsized bed (up its own private staircase)brRoom 3 - queen sized bed (downstairs)brRoom 4 - ensuite room - double bedbrRoom 5 - twin room (upstairs)brRoom 6 - bunk room (upstairs)brbrThe maximum number of guests is 16. For the other 2 extra people, there’s a sofabeds in each open plan sitting room area (queensized so each suitable for one adult or 2 children).. In summer, the sofabed in the games building could be used instead by an adult or a couple of teenagers (shower room and kitchenette here). There's a shed for bicycle storage and drying wet clothes. This also houses the washing machine and dryer. There's an outside tap. brbrWe offer the use of an electric vehicle charger and charge cost price for this (30p/kwh). Domestic electricity for the house, and logs, are included in the rental price.brbrWe are very happy to advise on accessibility for people with various disabilities.
