Homer Beach House with WOW view and beach access

Homer, Alaska, United States

Magnificent home on the beach right in Homer city limits, with stunning views of the mountains, ocean, birds and other wildlife. Location is close to Homer Airport, the Homer Spit and downtown Homer - you are close to all activities, but still feel like you are away from it all. Relax on the deck and watch the shorebirds and eagles (this is what we call Bird TV) and look for whale spouts. Walk down our private road to access the beach in front of the house and go tide pooling or look for interesting shells and rocks. Smell the salty sea air. Magic happens as you start to relax and take in the beauty, listening to the eagles, and spotting a seal or otter in the water.brIn Alaska, the custom is to take off your shoes and boots after entering a house, so on the main-floor there is a welcoming mud room with space for footwear and to hang coats. The house has a large Great Room that takes advantage of the spectacular view while cooking, entertaining and more relaxing. We designed the view to mimic the pilot house on a ship, so you feel like you are on the water without getting wet or seasick. Our family is full of mariners, so much of our artwork is of the sea and done by local and family artists. The gourmet kitchen has many amenities and allows the chef to be part of the celebration. On chilly evenings, there is a gas fire pit on the deck to cut the chill, and cozy blankets in the window seat benches. brOn the main level, there is a bathroom, walk-in shower/change room and a cedar sauna which are all connected. A new bedroom, with a queen size bed, has been added on the main level. It is suitable for those with mobility challenges, and it also has 2 reclining easy chairs and a quiet view of the wooded area.brOn the second level, the master suite with king-size bed and another stunning view of the bay, beach, birds and mountains, is the perfect space to wake up. Why get out of bed Enjoy coffee or tea in bed while making plans for the day.brAlso on the second level, are 2 additional bedrooms (each with a queen-size bed) with partial views of the ocean and the neighboring woods, where moose, porcupine, and coyotes walk; a large bathroom with two-sinks, and separate toilet room; laundry room; library/art area with comfy chairs; and a ginormous play room with indoor pickle ball court, ping pong table, and foosball.brBut, there is more. A ship's stair takes you to the top level which has a large bedroom that has a queen-size bed, and a double-size bunk bed with a twin-size top. This bedroom also has a partial ocean view and of the neighboring woods.brThe Homer Beach House is our home during the winter months, so we hope you enjoy it as much as we do.

Pioneer & Veterans Lodge, Kilcher Homestead, Alaska The Last Frontier

Homer, Alaska, United States

A beautiful, hand crafted log cabin, fully outfitted, next to an Alaskan historic site of rich significance & space. Can accomodate large groups (4 bedrooms and loft) or small. Each log in this cabin was carefully downed, limbed, crafted, notched, and fitted by a long time homesteader, Atz Kilcher. Sitting above stunning scenery, the cabin provides modern amenities in a rustic setting. A mix of antique furniture with modern and log style furniture in the kitchen, living room and downstairs bedrooms. Bamboo kitchen flooring is a treat and the cabin has been lovingly maintained (new downstairs shower, new laundry & high end machines, new tiling and carpeting throughout). We have provided a wood stove with a custom built rock hearth for ambience, but has upstairs and downstairs oil heat for convenience.br The large master bedroom overlooks a view you will never forget (think Kachemak Bay, glaciers, mountains, pink and purple sunsets and, admittedly more rarely, the aurora borealis), and there is a small bedroom right next door if you have a youngster you prefer to keep close, and two window nooks that even adults sleep in. The older kids or adult guests will enjoy the two bedrooms on the lowest level. Sited on a 50 acre parcel next to a homestead where eight children of an early State Senator and writer grew up in an austere 400 square foot homesteaders cabin.br Easy access to the Kilcher Family Homestead provides over 600 acres to hike in if you desire along with access to the beach via one of only two beach access sites outside of Homer on the near side of McNeil Canyon. During the summer the Kilcher Homestead Living Museum offers tours of the Homestead cabin built by Ruth and Yule as well as self guided tours/hike to the beach (donation/contribution varies). There is a meadow/pasture above the house that is fun to explore. There are also meadows, and other interesting land features surrounding the cabin. It is not unusual to see moose, black bear (shy ones), porcupines, sandhill cranes, eagles, hawks, song birds, marmots, seals and other wild life on the Kilcher Homestead. Next to the Kilcher homestead, there is also a small archive nearby for the Ruth Kilcher Mariott Archives, where I have an archive intern working part time. The intern loves in a small cabin screened from view by alder bushes. Of note this property is part of a working homestead so there may be tractors and ATV's at work, but we will coordinate with you when this occurs in the event you are enjoying the house and not out fishing or sight seeing! Note: One of our windows in the upper bedroom recently crackedbrKeywords: Kilcher Family Homestead, Atz Kilcher, Log home, overlooking Kachemak Bay, next to historic Kilcher Homestead

Caribou Meadows by Historic Kilcher Family Homestead in Alaska The Last Frontier

Homer, Alaska, United States

Caribou Meadows is in a beautifully private but accessible setting, it has new and antique furniture throughout, along with full furnishings to make your visit enjoyable and rewarding. Both the main bathroom and master bathroom have been completely retiled and remodelled with Caribou motif, while maintaining original post and beam style. The well system has been improved with a two filter system and is fresh and pure. This cabin is immediately adjacent to the owners family homestead (the Kilcher homestead). It was hand built on the site of one of Homer’s original homesteads, by a young woodsman as he was starting a family in Homer. His craftsmanship shows in the original wood structure details throughout the house. With three bedrooms, a sleeping loft to allow for larger parties, two bathrooms, and a modern kitchen, but with more than a trace of Old World and homestead styling, this is a unique and memorable vacation spot. The wildlife in the immediate area is abundant, with moose, eagles, sandhill cranes, porcupines and many others. The cabin is sited in a beautiful meadow, surrounded by forest with room to roam. From the cabin, you can see beautiful Kachemak Bay and the mountains across the way. brThe cabin provides modern amenities, has ample space and is a beautiful spot for a family to stretch out and use as a base of operations to explore both near and far. This cabin sits alone on a 10 acre plot 11 miles out East End road but has ready access and is close to the amenities at Fritz Creek (mail, gas, groceries, world-class restaurant and wines and spirits). In the area and beautiful town of Homer is halibut and salmon fishing, the Pratt Museum, galleries, restaurants, groceries, horse back and ATV tours, kayaking, glacier and bear viewing, air tours and much, much more.brIt is also within walking distance of a historic site of rich significance, where I grew up with my father, an early Alaskan State Senator and mother a writer, singer and poet and my siblings, in the austere 400 square foot homesteaders cabin - the Kilcher Homestead. Easy access to the Kilcher Family Homestead provides over 600 acres in which to hike through to the beach via one of only three beach access sites outside of Homer.
