Come share my well appointed lake home on a quiet cove. We’re on the south end of Lake Wedowee in Hunter Bend subdivision. Our location keeps us away from holiday and weekend boat traffic. You can feel safe to swim quietly in the deep water off our dock (20 feet deep at the end of the dock during high water, 35 feet deep in the middle of the cove) while only minutes from the main channel, big water and great boating. Lake Wedowee is renowned for it’s fabulously clean water, the result of being created from a deep river channel through rocky terrain. There is no orange staining typical of many southern lakes.brbrThe house faces northeast, and even in hot weather the deck and dock are in the shade most the day, offering cool and pleasant afternoons and evenings, while getting good early and midday sun if you want to tan.brbrOur cove is residential and has several year round residents. We ask our guests respect the peace and quiet our residents enjoy. PARTIES ARE NOT PERMITTED. (This is NOT the place to have your teen's getaway or a noisy adult party.)brbrThe home has three bedrooms, each with their own full bath. Plus a powder room on the main. The master is on the main and has a King bed. The two lower level bedrooms have two queen beds each. And again, each bedroom has it’s own full bath.brbrThe kitchen comes fully equipped with gas stove, microwave, both a Keurig and drip coffee maker, toaster, and filtered water through the refrigerator, (we’re already on city water, and the quality is excellent). Air Fryer. Crock Pot. There is tons of high quality cookware. Everything you'll need to cook up something special. Plus a stainless steel gas grill. Lots of wine glasses and very good quality dishware. brbrThe house has high speed internet, (20-30 mbps, adequate for streaming TV or Video Conferencing) free wifi, 3 smart TV's. You can log into your favorite viewing apps. brbrThere is a SONOS sound system on the main which includes the main room TV.brbrThe upper deck was completely redone in the Spring of 2022! It has heavy, quality deck chairs and a Weber Genesis stainless steel gas grill. Propane is provided. There are also good quality deck chairs on the gazebo and at the firepit, and extra chairs below the deck. brbrThe dock will handle a good sized boat and has bumpers on two sides. There's a drive-on jetski port to use. There's an easy step swim ladder. brbrThe boat launch is literally across the street. The nearest marina is about 15 minutes away on the water… just past the 48 bridge. They have gas pumps open seven days during the summer months. 6 days in the fall and winter. brbrPontoon boats are available for rent through several services.brbrTown is a 15 minute drive away. There are two grocery stores, a liquor store, and a few other convenience stores. A list of restaurants is included in the brochure we send before a guest arrives.brbrAbout Lake Wedowee—brbrLake Wedowee, technically “RL Harris Reservoir” was created in the 80’s by Alabama Power. It’s 10,000 acres (1/4 the size of Lake Lanier north of Atlanta or Lake Martin near Montgomery) and was formed from a deep river channel of the Tallapoosa River. The water is very deep, and very clear. At our south end of the lake, hundred foot depths are the norm. brbrAlabama Power lowers the water level about 8’ starting in early November until late April. It does affect the appearance of the shoreline and the utility of many docks. Our dock remains floating, but the walkway from shore gets quite steep when the water is down. Though the lake in the winter is special. Incredibly quiet and peaceful.brbrCome join us! We are very flexible with scheduling. First come, first served.

We offer a 5% discount on a full week's stay and a 10% discount for the whole month!brbrEnjoy family time in an open kitchen with a large pantry stocked with the necessities such as coffee, coffee makers (two 12 cup drip), and Keurig pods, cookware, large serving pans, silverware, wine/regular glasses, blender, basic seasonings, paper towels, toilet paper, dish soap, etc. This should be enough to get your stay started off comfortably, and possibly for the entire trip. The home has two washers and three dryers which is great for large families. High speed internet, three large TVs, ESPN and other streaming outlets. brbrWe want to be considerate of all of our guests so we do ask if you bring pets that they don't sleep on the beds please. brbrThe home has beautiful tile and hardwood. The balcony, upper-level porch (unscreened) and carefully designed places within the home are a delight to sit back in a comfy chair, sip your drink of choice and enjoy the lake. The upper balcony has two picnic tables as well as chairs with gas grill (gas provided). There is a foosball table upstairs as well for the kids. The lower-level porch (unscreened) has a hammock swing with chairs and tables to sit back and listen to the birds chirp. Cornhole bean bag toss boards and horseshoes are also available.brbrIf you like smoking meat, a giant smoker is on the property. Feel free to bring your favorite flavor of smoking wood and have fun! It’s perfect for vacations or football weekends to watch your favorite teams by the water.brbrOne canoe and one “John Boat” (similar to a canoe) are included for you to paddle around on the beautiful water. Dock is attached for you to swim around and sunbathe. We also include a giant floating mat you can attach to the dock, as well as inner tubes to float on. Beach towels are included for your stay. brbrPontoon boats for cruising or tubing, as well as bass fishing boats are available for rent. Tubes are also available for rent. The boat rental owners are super nice and helpful. The boat can be picked up at the marina or they'll deliver to the house for a small fee.brbrYou are welcome to bring your own boat or pontoon and tie up to our dock. You’ll have access to the private community boat ramp.brbrWe are retired restaurant owners so the house has pictures of some of our menu items which we took out of our old business. They brighten up the home and will probably make you hungry! brbrWe leave our Christmas tree up all year long because hey, every day is like Christmas morning at the lake (also great for weekends around the holidays!).brbrThe main floor of the house has a large open room with high ceilings. The kitchen with granite countertops and stainless steel appliances is fully equipped for your stay. Everything you need to whip up a great meal is there. Large gas grill is just outside on the porch.brbrA breakfast room that’s perfect for breakfast or playing cards and boardgame while you look out over the lake. Across from the kitchen is a full bathroom.brbrThe dining room seats 10+. A sofa and flatscreen TV are also in this large area. brbrAround the corner you will find the spacious master bedroom with a king bed and private bathroom with a shower and bathtub. Our home is nestled among the tree tops on the shores of beautiful Lake Wedowee. When you first arrive, you might get fooled by the quaint front exterior, but when you step inside, you will discover over 2900 square feet of living space. There are four bedrooms and four full baths. There is also an additional upstairs bedroom that our kids named, The Secret Room. Just look for a closet door that is not really a closet door. Our home is on a quiet, deep water cove. Two large decks offer beautiful lake views. Open concept kitchen and living room provide a great space to entertain. Game room with pool table and ping pong table. Four queen beds, a sleeper sofa, and king bed in bonus room allow guests to spread out. Hundreds of DVD's and 3 flat screen televisions. Fully stocked kitchen with pots, pans, dishes, and glasses. Dishwasher, washing machine and dryer for your convenience. Floats and life jackets available, check the closet under the stairs in the daylight basement. We have room for three cars on the driveway. The Swagg Boat Ramp is just down the road, and we suggest dropping off your boat before coming to the house. When coming by boat from the boat ramp, our cove is at mile marker 16 on the left. Our stationary dock and floating dock with be the second dock on the left once you come in the cove. There is no wifi/internet at our home. We use our cell phone as a hotspot to connect to our smart TV to watch streaming services. We also offer an extensive collection of hundreds of dvds. Tons of kid-friendly options. There are lots of stairs down to the dock, but once you are there, the view is worth it. Deep, year-round water with a floating dock to tie your boat up to. We are at mile marker 16 on the lake. Swagg boat ramp is just a mile down the road.brThe roads are very narrow as you get closer to the lake. Boat trailers can be a challenge to park here, but we park ours without a problem. We recommend dropping your boat off first at the Swagg boat ramp before coming to the house.brOne hour from Talladega Superspeedway.

Our home has everything you need to enjoy a relaxing vacation. Relax in style and enjoy this beautifully furnished and tastefully decorated vacation home on one of the cleanest lake in the Southeast. Possum Trot has its own boat landing and playground. The home is located lake front and has spectacular, open water views to match. Hardwood floors are throughout the house on the first floor and you will be delighted with the feeling of mountains and water around you! There is a living room with a stone fireplace and big screen TV that is open to the dining area and a spacious kitchen. The kitchen is well stocked and has generous cabinet and counter space with stainless steel appliances. Off of the kitchen you will find a half bathroom and the laundry room. Relax in the master bedroom on the main level, which includes a Queen size four-poster bed (bed is very high off the ground- steps provided)with a flat screen TV. Off of the master bathroom there is a large cedar walk-in closet (made from the cedar trees that were removed to build the home). You can also walk out on to the back deck from the dining area or the master bedroom. The home offers a large wrap around deck which overlooks the lake and has a gas grill and is the perfect place to enjoy your morning cup of coffee or rock in a rocking chair. Upstairs you will find two large bedrooms and a full bathroom with a shower/tub combo. One of the large upstairs bedrooms has 2 queen beds and a futon with a flat screen TV. The other large upstairs bedroom has bunk beds, twin bed with trundle bed and a flat screen TV. There is also a deck off the bunk bed room that looks down over the lake. This gorgeous home with a tin roof can sleep up to 11 people. All towels, linens, dishes, and cooking utensils provided. Our home is completely furnished, beautifully decorated and VERY clean and well-maintained. Walking down to the water there is a gently sloped walkway (15 steps). You will find a covered public pavilion, our hammock, our dock and swings. We also have a very large grassy side yard next to our cabin. We offer a paddleboard, paddleboat, 2 man inflatable kayak, 1 man kayak, and fishing poles. We also have a portable fire pit for bon fires and s’mores. Our TV service is with Direct TV and we also offer a DVD player with the home. Possum Trot and this home are located on a secluded cove off of old 431. The view across the lake is one of trees and hills since nothing can be built here. Our rental prices are higher during these months however our cabin is very relaxing and enjoyable even during the months without water while you enjoy our stone fireplace and tranquil setting of our home on the lake. Our home is a lakeside getaway with a mountain feel! The property is an easy 1.5 hour drive from Birmingham or Atlanta and approximately 1 hour from Auburn, AL. Near by attractions include Antique & Gift Shops in downtown Wedowee, Cheaha State Park (features the highest point in Alabama, hiking and mining for kids & 3 waterfalls), Six Flags over Georgia (1 hour drive), Talladega Motor Speedway, Talladega National Forrest, Richard Petty Driving Experience (40 minute drive to Talladega), Cider Ridge Golf (Oxford, AL), and Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn, AL.brJust 4 miles from downtown Wedowee. The house is a family friendly single story with bedrooms on opposite sides of the house, affording privacy between the master and the other bedrooms. It is stocked with books, CDs DVDs, toys, games as well as a portable crib, and children's table and chairs. The walk to the lake is short (64' from house) and easy with a wooden boardwalk all the way to the private covered pier and large covered floating dock. There is even a private boat ramp on the property for launching your boat as well. Enjoy evenings lakeside by the firepit or swinging on the porch.brbrAt Captain Cook's you will find all the towels, linens, dishes, cookware and utensils you will need. We have gone the extra mile to make sure the kitchen is fully equipped. We have both drip coffee maker and Keurig coffee makers, an air fryer, blender, toaster, counter top ice maker, griddle, crockpot and plenty of cookware.
