Aleiki is an imposing traditional stone townhouse with a secluded walled garden with mature orange trees, jasmine and bougainvillea. There's a breakfast terrace right outside the kitchen door shaded by a grape vine pergola. It's the perfect location for a relaxed holiday and is within easy walking distance ( 8 - 10 minutes ) of the beach and castle. There's a fabulous bakery, wonderful tavernas and all local amenities on your doorstep as Aleiki is just up a little lane off the main street inthe centre of the village. With everything on your doorstep, many of our guests do not feel the need to rent a car.

The light, bright front bedroom ( open beamed ceiling ) faces the sea and has a double bed and a single bed. The back bedroom overlooks the garden and little lane ( leading down to the main street ) and has a super king bed ( 2 x 2 metres ). There's also room for a cot ( which we can provide. ) There is one bathroom upstairs. Both bedrooms have air-con, varnished wooden floors and shutters.

Downstairs there's a kitchen and steps leading down to the lounge. The third bedroom opens off the lounge and has a small double bed. A washroom opens off the lounge ( toilet with sink ) . There's a double sofa bed and space to add a fold-down bed if needed.

The second full bathroom ( original to the property and therefore not modern - with new shower and toilet ) is in the garden above the kitchen terrace. It's particularly great for showering children after the beach and for hanging wet towels straight on the washing lines. There's also a washing machine, towels and toiletries.

Aleiki is a lovingly restored house in a beautiful village of special interest. We have tried to retain the original character and atmosphere of the property ( there are strict rules for the renovation of old stone properties in Methoni ). If it's New York style chic and en-suite bathrooms you're after, this may not be the property for you .

We rented this property through VRBO expecting a comfortable stay in Methoni to celebrate a birthday with family and friends. What we encountered was a series of serious issues that made the accommodation unsuitable:• Hot water was only available after manually activating a boiler and waiting 45 minutes.• One of the bathrooms was located outside the house, contrary to the impression given in the listing.• The advertised sea access via a ladder was completely false—the ladder is not even on the property.• The master bedroom was plagued by constant noise from cicadas, possibly behind a closed internal door, making it difficult to sleep.• The toilets did not flush. We had to use a bucket for basic sanitation.• The owner offered to relocate us to another property 30 minutes outside Methoni, which was not acceptable given our planned celebrations and the fact that we were traveling with three other families staying nearby.• Despite all of this, the owner refused a full or even a partial refund. We were only compensated 432 euros by VRBO which did not reflect the magnitude of inconvenience. We left the property after just one night and moved to a hotel. This experience disrupted our plans and diminished what should have been a joyful occasion. I would strongly advise future renters to avoid this list until issues are resolved and listing description is corrected. We have rented in the past through different platforms and never encountered such problems. Very disappointin

We stayed 5 nights in Methoni and 2 at Fiona's other property up in the olive groves of Gialova. Both were fantastic and a great mix and match for our wonderful holiday in the Peloponnese. Our Methoni stay felt as traditional as it gets! A beautifully rustic and welcoming home with loads of space and character. Lizards in the gorgeous back garden, church bells at regular(ish) intervals and comfy beds in cool rooms. Best of all, Fiona was bang on time for check in, charming, warm, funny and full of great suggestions for things to do locally. Despite my best intentions, life on holiday with three children means I still haven't finished Gerald Durrell's 'My Family and Other Animals' but a small part of me felt like I'd lived a bit of that same simple, curious, life staying at this wonderful house in a charming seaside setting. Thank you Fiona, we hope to meet again.

Nothing to add to that title. Oh just maybe Fiona the landlord (landlady?) whose presence is reassuring, efficient, and friendly (meaning you want her to be your friend). Perfect stay.

The house is just amazing - this was our second time and we hope to be back. Very clean and well equipped traditional house. A lavish garden to relax. Child friendly with lots of toys. Three toilets which is a real bonus with kids. Just perfect. The hosts Nigel and his wife Fiona are very helpful and kind. On arrival a bowl of cherry and melons were waiting for us - thank you.

We had a great holiday. House is brilliant for families - lots of space and a garden for kids to play. Family who owns the house is very helpful and nice. House was clean and the kitchen had a wide range of utensils. Lots to see and do in the area. I would return tomorrow : ).

We spent two weeks in the cozy and nicely decorated villa. We loved to sit in the little garden. The villa is situated just around the corner of the “main street” with three bakeries. The beautiful beach is just a little walk along the coast away. We were surprised by the variety of tavernas. Our favorites: Restaurant To Kastro and Andreas tavern. Nigel and Fiona were perfect hosts. We hope to come back soon!

We have had a wonderful time here enjoying Methoni and Villa Aleiki. Our three children will remember this for a long time to come. Such a great set-up for three young children and great kindness from Nigel and Fiona. The only downside is letting the children know that dinner out every night at 9 pm will not go on forever !

We came here with so many places planned to visit with an agenda for every day and then Methoni worked its charm on us and we have just relaxed and fallen in love with the place. The Villa has been fantastic, perfect location and you feel like a true local. We'd recommend going around Methoni Castle, Zanzibar Beach bar for lunch and seeing the sunset, Voidikilia beach and Koroni town with its views from the castle. Palio Historia restaurant is excellent and so is the bar opposite with Hercules (!) probably the best bar owner ever ! Get a Cappucino Freddo, relax and enjoy.

My wife and I enormously enjoyed our four weeks in Aleiki. We are both retired; our son and daughter, in their mid-twenties, joined us for a few days, and were as enthusiastic about the villa and about Methoni as we were. The villa and garden had plenty of room for us, was well equipped and in good order. Nigel and Fiona were very helpful. Between us we have had many holidays in Greece, mainly in islands, with a few on the mainland (I was in Kalamata and the Mani for a week rather a long time ago). Methoni was for us a real find. We arrived after the hottest weather (which was a plus for us), also after the tourist peak. Methoni is a delightful place – not at all over-touristified (and we would guess much the same even in July and August). The villa is well placed for the beach (sandy), and for shops and tavernas/kafenions (of which we ate and drank in ten or a dozen – a great variety which we much enjoyed). Methoni castle is quite extraordinary. We hired a car after ten days or so, but you don’t need one to get around Methoni. We would certainly recommend the villa and Methoni to friends and family.

We had a wonderful stay in this lovely authentic Greek villa in a peaceful back street in beautiful Methoni. Fiona and Nigel made sure we were happy and were very helpful with local information. On their recommendation we found the fabulous waterfall at Shinnalaka, as well as Golden Bay and the stunning horseshoe bay of Voldokillia. Nigel and Fiona organised a hire car for us which was very reasonable and easy pickup and drop off. They left us some of their delicious olive oil too. The villa is comfortable and beautifully decorated with an efficient shower and 2 loos, always useful. The local church bells are a bit of a surprise but you do get used to them. Will look forward to returning sometime soon.
