The traditional old farmhouse ‘Ta Kikka’ has been lovingly restored and is now a fusion of elegance and original charm. It is located on the outskirts of Xaghra, a busy town with many shops and restaurants and a bank. . A short drive away is Ramla beach. This is Gozo’s, and arguably Malta’s, best beach. A wide stretch of red sand, it is often referred to locally as “Ramla il-Ħamra” – the Red Sandy Beach! It is a fabulous place to swim, snorkel and chill out in the sun. The area around the beach is wonderfully undeveloped, although there are a couple of cafes and a stall set back from the beach.



A long sunlit corridor leads into the house, with doors out the pool and garden to the left and into the main living area, to the right. The pool area is a calm and tranquil walled space for sunbathing and al fresco meals. Original floor tiles throughout give this house a wonderful glimpse into its past. The kitchen, dining room and living room are one large space, perfect for socializing, for families and couples alike. A wood- burning stove gives an extra cosy feel on those cooler winter evening.



A stunning stone spiral staircase leads to the upper level. There is also an outside stone staircase, a feature of many of Gozo’s old farmhouses. Upstairs, there are two double bedrooms, both with en suites and lovely original features. There is room for a foldaway bed and/or a cot, if required.



The house has fans and, air conditioning in the bedrooms, for both cold air and heat. The air conditioning units are operated using one and two euro coins.

    This is a beautiful old farmhouse with some lovely old features that give it its charm. It’s a short walk to town as well as supermarkets.

    I loved the courtyard with the pool, though unfortunately, the weather kept us from fully enjoying it. The bedroom furniture and doors are outdated and in poor condition, and the bed mattresses are uncomfortable.

    This is a beautiful old fashioned gozo farmhouse with everything you need. Air conditioning in the bedrooms but could benefit from air conditioning in living area/kitchen too. Relatively close to beaches and shops but we had a car so nowhere far away. Lovely pool and seating area with sunbeds too. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

    This charming house sits right at the very northernmost point of Xaghra which puts it close enough to walk to the fabulous Ramla beach - a major advantage given how difficult it can be to park a car there. The walk is about 20 mins through absolutely beautiful scenery - fairly steep in places so perhaps not one for very young children. (Perhaps 30 mins coming back up the hill!) The added advantage being that you can enjoy a drink at the lovely beach bar and stagger home, lightly toasted, merry and sandy as the shadows lengthen. Just what great holidays are made of! In the evening you can then walk to the bars and restaurants in the town - about the same distance the other way, but less steep. There is also a really very good little minimarket (J & M) a few minutes walk away, which had everything we needed (including gluten free foods) and which were offering to deliver. The house itself is lovely - beautifully presented in a simple tasteful unpretentious style. It had a charming relaxed unfussy vibe. The walls are thick stone, the ceilings high and fitted with ceiling fans, and the windows all have flyscreens, which meant we could sleep with the windows open. We didn’t need to use the aircon at all. Beds were super-comfy and linens all crisp and of good quality. The kitchen was well equipped in terms of utensils, crockery etc., but does desperately need a new oven, and note there isn’t a dishwasher here. There were filled soap dispensers at every sink, basin and shower which was a nice touch, but there were no other supplies (condiments, cleaning materials etc.) left in the property. There was plenty of hot water, but the showers are a bit feeble, pressure-wise. The management people were cheerful and super-efficient. I’ve never seen a lightbulb replaced so quickly! All in all, a really good holiday home in a super location. It had a lovely atmosphere, a lovely well-maintened terrace and pool and was very well managed. A good choice.
