Welcome to KATAMA!
Air conditioning throughout this meticulously maintained home should make your visit pleasant during humid period or hot August nights! But what will make you happy during your visit is the homes location – near the Island’s most beautiful and exciting beach and its convenient, quiet location where it is not unusual to see natures residents – a deer, rabbits, birds, and ducks of all varieties visit our expansive backyard. And you watch this from your perch on the large deck!
We have a guest house on the property, in the rear, which is separate from the main house. Please see VRBO property ID: 1181504. It has its own parking; a privacy fence constructed to assure an attractive and natural boundary between the two properties
Our home rests on an island of its own - in the much sought-after area of Edgartown called KATAMA - nestled between Herring Creek and Katama Roads and is surrounded by MV's extraordinary bike path that can take you to South Beach, the Village of Edgartown or beyond! Protected Open Space is minutes away on foot. The Village is an easy walk where you'll find entertainment, restaurants, fishing, and access to Chappy!
South Beach is less than a two-mile bike ride away, the Island’s public transportation system stops at the end of our street and the Katama Airport, Katama Store and a nice new restaurant are an easy walk from the house. Our large deck and expansive backyard is perfect for cookouts and yard games! A Weber gas grill and 8 seat picnic table complete the outdoor living space along with Adirondack chairs and a hammock.
Our kitchen is well equipped for the most discriminating cook. Find everything from normal everyday mugs, plates and utensils to a blender, salad spinner, lobster pot! A walnut table that can comfortably seat 8-10 graces the dining area.
Each of the three full baths has been updated and you will never want for towels or sheets, all of which are on site. But please feel free to bring your own if you prefer or contact me for the Island laundry service. The four bedrooms (2 down - Primary En Suite with Bath, KING sized bed, and second bedroom (use of full bath in hall) has 2 Twin beds; Upstairs 2 bedrooms: one KING (with Roku TV, window and skylight) and, a second bedroom with a Queen sized bed and 2 twins beds.
The entire first floor is hardwood, except the baths, which are tiled. The second floor bedrooms are carpeted in a Berber wall to wall rug and cleaned each year.
The house is maintained as a smoke-free pet-free environment.
We delight in taking long walks, biking along the path toward Morning Glory Farm for early morning muffins and late day pies for the evening's desert, tennis at the Boys and Girls Club or the school's jungle gym and play-yard with our children's children and friends. The Edgartown Fire Station Museum delights all, and the maritime museum is in Vineyard Haven situated right on the water. There is sailing and swimming, gardens (Chappy has a Japanese garden My Toi) and beaches, museums, and shops galore. And all this (except the new MV Museum) is a mere 1/2 – 1 mile from your summer retreat.

I’m
The place was perfect for our vacation. It was clean and spacious for two families with kids. The location is great for bike riding. We enjoyed Martha's Vineyard as always but this place with its amenities made our stay much better. The host Mary Jane was super helpful with regards to questions and concerns. We had to call her very late on the first night because the cleaning crew forgot to place the bath tissues and the stores were closed. Mary Jane took care of the issue right away. One issue for us was the cleaning requirements during our checkout which I found not to be clear as part of the rental agreement. There was a separate cleaning instructions at the place when we checked in. We stayed in several vacation rental places and in all these places, we were not asked to wash/fold the linen/towels and offload the dishwasher. We were used to leaving the used linen/towels on the floor (or starting the wash cycle for the used towels) and starting the dishwasher before checking out. Not sure what the cleaning fees included but I had to do the laundry and fold the towels/linens and offload the dishwasher. I wish they could charge little extra for cleaning or communicate this properly. We were respectful to the property and thank Mary Jane for hosting us during our vacation at Martha's Vineyard.
We had a great stay and would rent the house again.
We had a wonderful time on MV and staying in this property. The weather was spectacular. The amenities were great. The kids loved the pickle ball court; my husband could play his guitar on the back porch; many of us enjoyed the hammock and outdoor shower. The inside is very clean and the open concept works well for entertaining. We also appreciated the finished basement with the television as the kids could be doing their own thing away from adults. Would highly recommend!
Outdoors a bit cool - indoors cozy! Very nice property - very comfortable. Great location!!
This is our second time at the property in three years. Couldn’t ask for better. Awesome house and great location. We’ll most certainly be back.
My daughter and I ran the half marathon. Our family came to cheer us on. We had a great weekend together!
Mary Jane was beyond lovely and accommodating! The house is is a great location on the island, well kept, and well appointed! Hope to get back there soon! Thank you for EVERYTHING, Mary Jane!
This house and Mary the host exceeded our expectations. It’s a great location, roomy, comfortable, clean and providd every necessity. Mary answered me quickly with any questions I had. We will be coming back
On island for a family wedding. We were perfectly situated to attend the welcome bbq and then the ceremony in Aquinnah. Mary Jane was prompt on any questions and very welcoming and we appreciate her hospitality. A well stocked kitchen for those who plan to cook their own meals. Thanks again Mary Jane.
Property is very well equipped with everything we needed for our 4 night stay. Perfect for 4 adults and our 2 year old grandson. Owner was very easy to communicate with and very responsive.
great spot for a group of friends who haven't been together in a verrrry long time! We had a great stay
Great launching pad for family fun and exploring Martha’s Vineyard, and MJ was a terrific host.
Fantastic stay in a lovely home! Thank you!
The house was just perfect and we loved the house and property. We were only there for the weekend but it was such a homey feeling and comfortable for everyone.
My family and I have stayed at this property many times and can’t say enough great things about it. The property itself is beautiful. The house is always clean and is very spacious for a decent size group. It has an amazing backyard that my kids love! They run around, play catch, play cornhole, paddle ball, you name it! The back deck is equipped with a grill to cook with plenty of room to eat and entertain. Enjoy your coffees out there in the mornings and have your dinner and drinks under the stars at night. The house is located right off the bike path and is a 2 mile walk/bike ride to South Beach and 1 mile from Edgartown Center. Literally the perfect location! Spend the day at the beach then walk to town for dinner and ice cream - the best. This is the only place to stay on Martha’s Vineyard!
