Folly Beach, South Carolina
The City of Folly Beach has scheduled beach renourishment for this spring. The project will start at the West end of the island at the county park progressing towards the pier in blocks. The completion is slated for August. While this is welcomed news given the recent erosion from storms and high tides, we realize the potential for disruption based on the project’s timing.
We are committed to ensuring your vacation experience remains enjoyable. While most of the beach will remain publicly accessible during the construction, there is a possibility that certain sections of the beach, typically about 500 feet at a time, may be temporarily closed off. The active work area moves every 5 to 7 days on average.
Due to so many external factors, we have no way to predict an accurate timeline for when the project will be at any given location. However, if we anticipate in advance that the project may affect your stay, we will be reaching out to you.
In the small chance the project directly affects your beachfront vacation, we will work closely with you to discuss options.
Stay @ The Salty Dog!
This bright and coastal themed 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom oceanfront house on Folly Beach is perfect for those looking for a classic beach house with a modern twist. Light, coastal flooring runs throughout the home to give a light and open feel to the home.
Cool blue tones in both the art throughout the home as well as furniture highlight the real view outside - the Atlantic Ocean. Efficient blinds in each room allow you to control how much or how little light the home receives.
The primary bedroom has its own en suite bathroom as well as private deck access with rocking chairs located right outside the doors for easy access to relaxation in the mornings. The other two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and the other with 2 twins, share the bright and light hall bathroom.
Natural light floods in through the shared living area, highlighting both the ocean, as well as the expansive deck that stretches the entire length of the home, from the front entry area all the way down to the more private section in front of the primary bedroom. The deck hosts both rocking chairs as well as a two person high top table to enjoy either cocktails or coffee overlooking the beach.
Connected to the deck is a private beach walkover to a relatively quiet area of Folly Beach. You're a quick walk down to the popular surfing spot at The Washout where you can sit and watch the surfers ride wave after wave, or even take a surf lesson yourself and join in on the fun! Well removed from downtown Folly Beach, this home promises that the only sounds you should hear at night are waves and the ocean breeze.
Like most homes on Folly Beach, The Salty Dog sits on stilts, which offers covered parking as well as a space underneath the home for an outdoor shower, and a spot to grill away from the sun. The covered section of the home also provides an easy access point to the lower deck, which has Adirondack chairs to relax in, and a quick walk to the beach and ocean beyond.

Wonderful experience. Just what needed
We really enjoyed the house and the whole area. My new favorite beach!
We prefer to stay on the beach in a one story updated home. This checked all the boxes and came with rental credits for beach gear! We would definitely stay here again.
We absolutely love staying at Folly Beach.. Peaceful and quiet
Out the door and 20 steps later you are on a perfect sandy beach. The house is perfect for a small group looking to relax. Plenty of comfortable seating in the family room looking out at the ocean. Wonderful balcony to feel the constant breezes and listen to the waves crashing the shore.
It was our first time to the area and although we went into Charleston every day it was great to come back every night to the beach. It was perfect.
Dry pleasant
We spent the week at The Salty Dog,and found the house perfect for our girl's getaway. Nicely appointed, we had everything we needed. Beds were comfortable, the kitchen very well stocked, and the living room with full view of the beach was a great place to gather and visit. Most enjoyable was the porch, where we sat every morning and evening, and watched the waves and birds and weather. Conveniently located to Charleston and other area attractions, but far enough away from the hustle and bustle. All four of us remarked that the place was a great find!
The view, rocking chairs on the porch and kitchen table (nice and big) were great, but that’s where it ends. The outside needs major tlc. The porch was peeling, rusting and the outside appearance in general needed spruced up. Every time we turned around we found something that needed repaired. A blind in the kitchen was missing and laying on the top of the cupboard, the drawers stick, the hose on the sink gets stuck in the on position and the light in the living room didn’t work. The light in the first bedroom didn’t work. The main bathroom’s toilet keeps running if you don’t lift the handle and the sink barely trickles even with both faucets turned all the way on. The dryer was missing a handle. The bed in the master was not comfortable and the master bath fan didn’t work and the sink was water rotted on the bottom and the floor looked like it had mold under it. It was very disappointing because it could be a great place to stay, but in its current condition I would highly advise against it.
This was just what we were looking for. Beautiful views directly of the beach and plenty of peace and quiet. We will be back next year. : )
