The perfect Carmel-by-the-Sea Hideaway cottage La Cachette

We really enjoyed our two weeks at La Cachette . It was recently remodeled and very clean inside and out – certainly a five star property. There were a generous supply of consumables and kitchen wares. The beds were comfortable. The upscale kitchen appliances worked well. Both of the TVs (one in living room and one in kitchen) are recent upscale models with remotes and all of the apps you might need. A gate remote control and keypads were provided to park your car inside the property. An issue we identified was immediately resolved to our satisfaction. The house is located in northeast Carmel in a residential neighborhood that is only 0.8 miles from Carmel Plaza. It is on a busy street and road noise may be an issue for anyone in the front bedroom, but traffic was light between 10:00 pm and 7:00 am. The back courtyard was pleasant and tidy. One issue though – while Wi-Fi strength was good and fast in the front of the house, it was poor in the primary bedroom and back courtyard. An easy fix would be to install a Wi-Fi extender in the dining room.

We really enjoyed the house and pretty yard. Furnished nicely with very comfy beds and linens! Kitchen has everything you need. Loved all the French cookbooks.

We rent every summer in Carmel. Great cottage just north of downtown Carmel. Close to park and ~15 minute brisk walk to downtown. Wifi range was spotty towards the back of the house. Great set up otherwise! Would love to stay again.

This was our first VRBO rental and it exceeded our expectations. The house was adorable, updated, VERY clean and homey. They had everything we needed including very comfortable beds, great kitchen, washer/dryer, updated bathrooms. We said we would love to move in and stay. And NO clutter so we felt relaxed in the home and out in the beautiful Carmel by the Sea town. Friendly people in community, beautiful beaches, fantastic restaurants all east to walk to. We love walking so it was a perfect place… just remember to bring comfortable shoes, sweatshirts and flashlights and since it’s dark when you walk at night (which we loved getting away from city), and we could even smell the trees and nature. We will return. Thanks for great memories.

We’ve been to Carmel on numerous occasions staying in other rental accommodations and periodically hotels. As well traveled couple, we look for thoughtfully designed high end homes that are very well-maintained, capture a true sense of place, and have easy access to key local amenities such as the beach, restaurants, and shops. This home offered all of this and that much more – especially with the added bonus of the artist studio in the backyard offering another place to relax, gather, or read a book with the generous skylights in the roof. Not unlike other places we stayed in France, there is a French-Carmel aesthetic throughout the home. It’s obvious that the owners of this home thoroughly enjoy cooking and entertaining with its professional kitchen and everything you need to prepare a gourmet meal on the nights you stay at home. The private tree lined backyard is complete with seasonal gardens, citrus and fruit trees, lawn area and two patios is the perfect place for entertaining or enjoying the afternoon sun. The gated driveway provides ample space for two full-size cars with a dedicated Tesla charging station. We enjoyed our Carmel getaway with two other couples, who like us, are anxious to return in the not-too-distant future. It was by far one of our most memorable stays in Carmel which was easy to arrange with the assistance of Deborah the host. Thank you!

We have found our go-to place for staying in Carmel. First, the location was great for us as we like to get a daily walk in. There is some nice elevation getting to and from the beach (true of every rental here) which allowed us to indulge a bit more in food and wine! La Cachette is very well appointed. There is so much wonderful light in this home that even with the foggy mornings, it is bright and cheerful. The hardwood floors are stunning - and the tile work in the bathrooms feels like old world craftsmen must have been involved. The rooms are generous in size, particularly the master bedroom and the linens were so soft and luxurious. We love to cook in a few nights and this kitchen is among the best that we have experienced in a VRBO. The owners clearly must be foodies. Great appliances and kitchen tools galore. There is even a top-shelf collection of cookbooks that we made good use of. In our experience few rentals have great wine glasses but the cabinet was beautifully stocked so that we could enjoy local wines on the back patio. The studio space in the back is a great bonus because our friends needed to have few work Zooms while we were they and they had privacy in a professional-looking setting. The vegetable gardens we just out of season but there were plenty of ripe lemons and herbs for our cooking. There isn't a thing that we would change and we have already booked it for our next visit in late Spring. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable and quiet place to enjoy Carmel.

What a wonderful find! Debra, the property manager was a delight to deal with, and very responsive. The cottage is very well appointed, and has every amenity you could ask for. Walking distance to downtown Carmel, and a great deck and patio in the back yard for meals or just relaxing with a glass of wine. This place is perfect for a short visit or an extended stay. We will definitely be back!
