Description:
Designed as if classic ship of the sea, “Second Star” is a hidden treasure along the Charleston Coast. Featuring a new salt water private pool, fun amenities and views out toward the Atlantic, “Second Star” will delight your family with its beautiful décor. Every detail of the home is unique, such as the wood flooring that originated from an 80-year-old cotton mill from the upstate of South Carolina. Sanded and polished, the ancient wood flooring is gorgeous.

A retired naval officer originally designed and built “Second Star” prior to near tear down redesign a few years ago. But key concepts of the home’s beginning design around a sea vessel remain. The front of the home is shaped like the bow of a ship, with the “ships bridge” being the upper-level living room. Featuring a line of windows, exposed wood beams, shiplap wood walls and perfectly polished wood floors, the “ships bridge” points to the south south west and straight out to sea. In fact, nearly every room of “Second Star” has an ocean view.

The first level of “Second Star” is where you will find the gourmet kitchen (the galley). Every component of the kitchen is first class with stainless steel commercial grade appliances, granite countertops and plenty of room for your family to gather to share stories of the day. In addition to the kitchen, the first level features the dining room as well as the family room. Two of the five bedrooms are on the lower level each with a private bath.

Along with the living room, the second level features three bedrooms, each with a private bath. The “crow’s nest” top level balcony can be accessed by two bedrooms. A bonus feature are the two screened porches that will provide a mosquito free night for your family while enjoying the sea breeze.

“Second Star” has direct beach access by a path that runs next to the home. The Atlantic is less than 200 yards away! This section of the beach is fantastic with little public parking making it nearly exclusive to the homes within the neighborhood. Rolling dunes and wide beach will welcome you and your family. If you have golfers or family members that would like to visit a spa, Wild Dunes is just across the street from 54th Avenue. There are two famous golf courses in Wild Dunes in addition to several restaurants and a lovely day spa. Best yet, Historic Charleston is only 25 minutes away.

Parking:
Five Vehicles as Licensed by the City of Isle of Palms

Beach Chairs and Umbrella:
The Isle of Palms Beach Chair Company will provide your family two classic wooden beach chairs and an umbrella when you stay seven nights (March– October).   These are set up on the beach each morning for your family and removed each night by the crew at IOP Beach Chair Company.

What a beautiful and updated home! Our group of two families had a wonderful week in this gorgeous home with great views. We were there during a tropical storm but still had a very nice trip, and Michael was great with communicating and providing us with important information. Would definitely recommend this house and hope to be back again sometime!

Our stay at Second Star was great! Michael Long was awesome and communication leading up to our stay was excellent. We have stayed in the area for years so we were familiar with the location of the house. Never stayed at a location with a pool. This was a great addition. House was clean and fully updated with high end finishes. Highly recommend for a friends trip, family trip, and anything in between.

We had a fantastic time. The home was well appointed, had everything we needed and the layout is terrific. The management group was very responsive and helpful. Overall this was a great experience for us and would definitely stay here again.

This property with multiple ocean views met our 11 person family needs perfectly. The space, comfortable beds, bunks, outside porches (one screened), a “crow’s nest” coffee spot and open utensil stocked kitchen were especially appreciated.

Great house, but does need some repairs. Some of the screens on the screened in porch were torn, and there was some damage/holes in the wall and posts upstairs, which I advised the rental management company of right away.

The Good. The house was really beautiful, clean, comfortable, and well appointed. The location would have been excellent, except for.....The Ugly The Bad. The Wifi connection did NOT work in about 80% of the house. Cell service on IOP is sketchy, so not having a consistent Wifi connection was frustrating. We called the property manager (Beachside Vacations ) who sent someone out. He was able to find another router that was somewhat better, but we had to switch between routers depending on where we were in the house. The trash was not picked up. We had 10 people staying in the house. So, by the end of the week the trash bins in the lower level were over flowing. Again, we called the PM and were told someone would come to collect the trash, but they never did. No instructions on how to use any of the amenities - TVs, Apple TVs, Sonos. We were able to figure most of it out, but the Sonos would only connect to outside zone. We called PM who came to look, but could only offer that the owner must not make the other zones available to guests. Not a big deal, but some instructions would have save everyone frustration and time. The Ugly. The house just outside the fence between us and the beach is undergoing an extensive renovation. The noise level during the day was so bad you couldn't carry on a conversation if you were sitting by the pool. And, it ruined the view of the ocean from the upper decks. We would not have rented this house if we would have known about the construction. I think this should have been disclosed. Obviously, nothing can be done about it, but potential renters beware. It's noisy and ruins the view. If you have a reservation, I would check the status of the construction. It doesn't look like it would be done anytime soon. Overall, I don't believe I received value for the price paid. I would consider renting here again AFTER the construction is complete. But, would also like to see the internet and Sonos issues addressed. An instruction sheet would have been very helpful.

We had a large family gathering - there was plenty of space with an amazing kitchen and other amenities. Really enjoyed the outdoor ping pong! Super close to the beach. Feels secluded enough from the hustle of the more touristy areas but is also easy to get to downtown and Mt. Pleasant. Would definitely stay here again in the future.

We have stayed at many houses at IOP and this is our favorite! Great views of the ocean throughout the home and a ton of porches to choose from. Love the two living area spaces. We have 3 and 5 year old children and the gates down to the pool were well thought out for safety! Steps away from the beach which again made it easy with the little ones. Definitely would recommend and plan on staying again next year!
