On your day of check-in, be prepared with patience to drive and find this truly secluded house , especially if you have a late check-in. Once you get familiar with the roads and surroundings , you will start feeling good about the place.

The house was clean; beds and pillows were comfortable; host was fabulous - communicated very well, helpful with local information; while there were homes close you could not hear or see them, very peace-ful area; out of town Hilo, but not far; Foodland & Safeway is Kroger(midwest); kitchen and frig well stocked; the observation loft was too scary for us to venture up; the grill and fire pit were wonderful; enjoyed the back deck daily. Frogs of all sizes were vocal at night which was nice and visible during the day. The feral cats added a nice home feel to the property. The fans in the rooms were great. Full sized Washer and Dryer worked great. Supplies were very helpful in kitchen, bathroom, laundry, and for water activities. There are family games which was nice to fill in down time. Only suggestion would be to manicure and add rock to the driveway but it was early in the season with spring growth. We cannot say enough great things about this host, Jenny. Very friendly, texts to check on things but leaves you alone to not feel watched, but gives comfort that she is available when needed. 30 minutes from Volcano National Park and everything in Hilo. 2.5 hours from Kona (scenic route); almost 3 hours from Waimea. There is a Cafe on the SR going toward Hilo, right after you turn right onto the main road - very inviting. Farmers markets are not great this time of year because everything is starting to grow. Go to Phoenix Coffee, ABC for souvenirs, & Hapuna Beach.

Jenny was very welcoming and we arrived in time for a brief tour of the home. The amenities met our needs in preparing for meals, the drive to the store is quite a ways away. So make sure you got your list and make your stops before heading into Fern Acres. It’s a beautiful place and an adventurous property. Amazing home! I would’ve never know the lifestyle in this style home, but it’s very beautifully set and modern. There’s lots of activities and games to do family time together. The back porch is perfect for outdoor sitting and watch the sunrise!!

Was an absolutely beautiful place to stay. The house itself is nestled between the beautiful greenery, with plenty of fruit trees and vegetation. Inside the house, it feels like a fairy garden. Very well equipped kitchen with a lot of passion fruit for us to enjoy! The host is absolutely kind and gave a lot of suggestions on when to go to the national park. Totally recommend this treasure trove of a place to stay and enjoy! Kids had a blast! Thank you very much for hosting us!

Our family group of 10 stayed comfortably at this unique tropical home. The host, Jenny, was kind and accomodating which made us feel very welcomed. Location was great to access Volcano National Park as well as being in close proximity to Hilo. The kids loved to climb up to the observation room. We enjoyed our stay and the hopsitality of our host!

The property is quiet and the house is spacious, very clean, comfortable an has all the basics you need and the host is hospitable. Our issues were with the inaccuracy of the listing and limited response from host when we asked for clarity and pictures of the bedrooms. Although the house is spacious, it is not 4 rooms. It’s 2 rooms with 1 loft and an observatory area that the average person would find very difficult, nearly impossible, to access and use as a bedroom. The “stairs” to the observatory area are actually flip down footsteps without any railing. We booked the place expecting it to comfortably house 6-8 adults, unfortunately it was not and we ended up having to try find another place same day making for a very stressful first day of vacation.

Stayed for only one night. 20 minutes from the park. House is spacious, quirky and lovely (it is a geodesic dome). Secluded yard with large covered back deck we enjoyed. Jenny is a gracious host who met us and toured the house with us, explaining everything along the way. House was clean with lots of linens and a fridge full of condiments and such free for us to use. House can easily sleep a large family.

Situated between Volcanos National Park and Hilo, this is a unique home with everything we needed to recharge for our next adventure on the Big Island. The kids liked playing hide-and-seek in this spacious home. The home is in a private residential area where dense forest and a private gate in the driveway all but guarantee privacy. The host was made us tea from a local plant, which was a nice touch.
