Stayed Mar 14, 2025I just loved how peaceful and quiet this place was. Listening to the birds and the rain was healing for the soul. The cottage is separated from nearby cottages by a few yards of rainforest, very private and cozy yet functional. Would definitely recommend this place if you’re looking to spend a day or two exploring the Kīlauea volcano and surrounding areas. Not a lot nearby in terms of restaurants, and the few that are there are very pricey - recommend grabbing groceries on the way there and preparing most meals in the kitchenette.

Stayed Feb 15, 2023The property was beautiful. The only thing to be mindful about is that there are limited resources within 45 minutes. It's best to grab what you need for your stay before you head to the cottage.

Stayed Aug 3, 2025I absolutely love this cottage in the village of Volcano. It's a perfect get-away. i have stayed here before (2023) and will hopefully stay here again. I was coming for our 30th wedding anniversary, and hoping that Kiluaea would oblige by giving us her 30th eruption episode, and SHE DID! It was spectacular.

Stayed Mar 29, 2025Lovely little cottage in the rainforest of Volcano. We enjoyed our stay, bed was comfortable, the small kitchen had enough for us to make simple meals, the porch off the back was delightful for sitting (when it wasn't raining). It's off a slightly bumpy dirt road, it's private, quiet, and peaceful. The living area had only one rocking chair (in addition to the dining chairs) so we read in bed. Convenient to the National Park.

Stayed Feb 12, 2025Stepping onto the grounds surrounding this Volcano cottage is like entering a secret garden, a world where nature's artistry takes center stage. The private aspect isn't just a descriptor; it's a tangible feeling, fostered by the lush, enveloping greenery that creates a serene, secluded haven. Imagine waking to the soft chorus of birds and coqui frogs echoing through a tapestry of ferns and towering ohia trees. The garden views from the private deck aren't mere glimpses; they're immersive experiences, where every glance reveals a new, delicate detail of the surrounding ecosystem. The canopied lanes leading to the cottage are a visual poem, where sunlight filters through the leaves, creating a dappled, ethereal glow. This isn't just a place to stay; it's a place to reconnect with the earth, to breathe in the crisp, clean air, and to witness the raw, untamed beauty of Volcano's unique landscape. The property's proximity to Volcanoes National Park is a natural extension of this beauty, offering endless opportunities to explore dramatic volcanic vistas and witness the raw power of nature. The emphasis on privacy and natural beauty makes this cottage an ideal retreat for those seeking solace and inspiration, whether you're a honeymooner seeking a romantic escape, an artist yearning for a tranquil workspace, or simply a traveler longing for a genuine connection with nature.

Stayed Jan 12, 2025We had a very good stay at Ferny Hollow cottage in Volcano. The cottage is cozy and vintage, and we were comfortable during our three day stay. Everything was tidy and clean, and there were nice touches like books about the Big Island, a CD player, good umbrellas, and extra linens/towels. Unfortunately, the cute electric fireplace was broken, but an electric space heater was provided and was adequate to help warm the place in the morning. We had one relatively minor problem after we checked in, we called Aubrey and she very quickly rectified it. We would stay here again.

Stayed Jan 7, 2025Nice, cozy place. Kitchen looks well stocked for those who want to cook. Bed was comfortable. Be aware you are at elevation so it is cooler. We would have rated this five stars but the electric fireplace wasn't working so it was a little cool and everything was damp. They did provide a small area heater which helped some.
