La Farge, Wisconsin
Tucked away on a beautiful farm, this cozy cottage will provide you with all you need to relax and rejuvenate. This cottage is just a quick drive to Kickapoo Valley Reserve and Wildcat Mountain State Park and is close to the Kickapoo River and many trout streams. Grandma’s Cottage was built in 1929 and was moved to our farm in 1943. The original purpose was to provide a home for the “grandma” so she could live on the farm in her own house while the married son and family lived in a main farmhouse. Grandma's cottage is fully furnished with kitchen utensils, bed linens, bath towels, full kitchen, and complete bath, plus a wood-burning fireplace and furnace for cold weather. The cottage offers a highchair plus a full size bed and pull out sofa. A delicious farm breakfast of eggs, muffins, fresh homemade bread and homemade jelly is available.
We were happy to find last minute availability here and so thankful that the host accepted our short notice request. Enjoyed meeting the hosts, Linda and Frank, as well as the couple staying at the other house but there is certainly more than enough room for privacy if that is your priority. We loved all the animals, the walking trails, and the amazing spot to watch the sunset on the ridge. This is a stunning piece of property and we are grateful that the hosts choose to share it in this way. If all of us who love this area moved here, it would ruin the place. Linda and Frank are giving us all the opportunity to enjoy it way it should be. We can’t wait to come back when we have a little more time to spend enjoying the land. (Oh . . . and the fresh eggs, home baked bread, and homemade jam are amazing too.)
Ideal for needed R&R. Good walking trails. Stargazing w/out light pollution. Simple and comfortable accommodations. Everything we needed was in our cottage. Generous and warm hosts. Love the farm animals and the friendly family pets freely roaming the property. Paradise for nature lovers - plenty to do if you enjoy being outdoors.
We had a cozy, relaxing weekend at this unique cottage, deep among the hills and farms of the Driftless region. Frank and Linda and their family were wonderful hosts. What could be more effective at de-stressing a person than rocking in the glider on the porch while watching the fireflies? Or taking a short walk around the property with a friendly little goat following you around? Or just enjoying a morning coffee with a slice of homemade bread and blackberry preserves. We tore ourselves away for hikes in the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, which is a treasure. Don't miss the recently re-done Visitor Center, which has remarkably good displays about the human history, geology, and ecology of this area.
Loved the quiet and peacefulness of this place! Enjoyed walking the trails. And the fresh eggs, bread, homemade jam, and scones were a tasty touch!
Nice quiet retreat that is very well appointed. A huge bonus is to receive fresh baked bread and sweet breakfast baked goods, and fresh eggs! This is a gem of a place!!!!
We absolutely loved hiking the property with Hannah and the friendly cats, and the morning breakfast was one of the highlights of our day. This stay was comfortable and homey, and the property provided the opportunity to get out in nature and relax for a bit. We're hoping to stay longer next time!
The cabin was beautiful and cozy, everything we expected. The property was beautiful and there were some very friendly cats outside that were always happy to greet us. We loved the cabin and everything met our expectations. We did the on site breakfast both mornings and it was delightful. I would definitely recommend it. The breads and sweets were amazing! The hosts were kind, helpful, and very easy to work with. We are coming back next year for sure!
We had a very nice time at the cottage. Breakfast was delicious with the fresh baked bread, sweets, and fresh eggs. We walked around the property a bit to look at the other animals and take in the sounds of the country. We traveled around Amish country during the day and stayed warm by the fire at night. The perfect, relaxing getaway and great way to unplug
The property and cabin are incredible. My wife and I had a wonderful time at the property. The cabin is cozy but well stocked. Fire wood ready for the fireplace, coffee and creamer ready for the morning, immaculately clean, what more could you ask for? I'll tell you what, homemade scones, fresh bread and eggs straight from the farm (for purchase at a comically reasonable rate). The property itself was gorgeous and had many trails for exploring. It even came with a lovely dog, Hannah, that guided us on our hike. If you aren't a dog person, Hannah is the dog for you. She was calm, kept to herself unless called over, and was extremely friendly. The owners could not have been nicer. I messed up the booking and reserved the wrong nights (no fault of theirs, entirely my fault) and they went out of their way to try to find a solution. They greeted us when we arrived, showed us the ropes, let us know how to get ahold of them, and then disappeared. I cannot recommend this stay enough. We will definitely be back. Next time we will bring our toddler. She will love the farm animals.
The location was wonderful, and my children enjoyed the friendly animals and walking trails on the property. It was just what we needed for a short getaway. The baked goods, jam, and eggs were such a lovely part of the stay.
